what to do... - about the kitten
mommy_loves_chase wrote: i have a female cat who had kittens not to long ago 2 of them died when they were born and i lost another one last week so yesterday when my fav one starting acting funny i started freaking out (im a huge cat person) he was lik the bully and always in the mood to play and now he is slugish and as of last night wasn't eating a whole lot at all and drinking just a smallll bit so i was told of two choices i have i could take it to the humain society and pay them 20 and they could make it better and adopt it out but on the downside if they think it is too sick they just put it down or i can take it to the vet for 30 and see whats wrong and go from there on what i want to do, my B/F when i talked to him today said that he seems to be doing better that he was playing but im not sure if he was just saying that to make me feel better cause i have been really down about it or if he is actully doing better so then im not sure if maybe i should just cuddle it and watch it real close and see how it does over the next couple days has nothing to do with kids but if anyone has any ideas on it can you let me know please
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I used to work for a vet. My personal opinion, (opinion, not advice) is that you should give him a day, 2 at the most and then head to the vet. The owner, fur-peron mom, always has the best instincts. You know your pet, if something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. But if he is a large cat, a few days without eating much won't do him too much harm. I would watch the water situation though. He may be drinking more than you think since you can't watch him all the time. Try letting him drink out of the faucet. My cats always love that.
mommy_loves_chase replied: he is just hitting 8 weeks and already has a home to go to but they are on vacation for 2 weeks but will give him a loving home they already have 2 of her babies from her last litter do cats get tummy aches?
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Yep, they do. Keep an eye on him. He is still young and therefore resilient. But if things don't look right to you this evening, call your vet. 2 weeks is a while to wait.
mommy_loves_chase replied: we get paid tomorrow so im hoping after bills are paid(we dont have a whole lot of money) that i have a few dollars to at least pay for the office visit
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Do you have a contact number for the folks who are taking the little bit? If so, call them and let them know what is going on. They may be able to help defray vet costs. Also, some vets will work out payment plans. It is worth checking into. We had a guinea pig that needed surgery not too long ago, our vet worked with us on that one. I guess it isn't too often that people spend $200 on a $12 pet. Furry children can cost almost as much as real ones sometimes. I hope your little guy looks better to you this afternoon. You can try giving him some water with a syringe or eyedropper. the one that come with baby meds work really well. That way, you have a better idea how much he is getting.
mommy_loves_chase replied: can wet cat food be put into a suringe too? i just wanna make sure that i cam doing everything for him that i can if anything i want him to feel loved while he is sick
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Yes, but you may have to water it down some more and make it kind of messy. I totally understand about wanting them to feel loved. Sometimes, if you give them a little jumpstart by putting food down them their appetites come back. Any ideas what the other two kittens died from? My best advice is to watch him, feed him, love him and keep him hydrated. Check his eyes and nose for any discharge. Sometimes a respiratory thing can make them lose their appetites. Talk to you soon, I am going on my lunch break. 12:15, day is half over.
mommy_loves_chase replied: his one eye is kinda runny nothing i thought to be concerned with because they all had a bit of that even the healthy one that i have, the 2 kittens died at birth, and the last one i have no idea it was always very skinny thank you for the advice have a good lunch
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: No problem, glad to be of any assistance. I really hope the little guy feels better soon. If you have any other questions, feel free. The eye thing doesn't sound too serious. If you notice him getting sniffly, coughing, or sneezing, then it would be more of a respiratory thing. Good luck with feeding him, he may need to be cleaned off afterwards. It usually gets kind of messy.
mommy_loves_chase replied: yeah im sure he wont be very happy with me when im done, but i would rather him be grouchy and alive then not, nope no coughing sneezing or any of that
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Yeah, when that was my job, I always had scratches on my hands and arms. Really fun explaining them the next day at school. Don't get too discouraged. I know it is rough. Good luck.
mommy_loves_chase replied: thanks again
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: How is the kitty this morning?
mommy_loves_chase replied: well i called the vet because i wasn't sure how much to give him and they told me to mix some water with corn surup to boost his electrolits and then they told me to get cat milk from the store but if i could of afford that i would have taken it to the vet yesterday so just wet food crused up with water he seemed to like it didn't really like the water and corn surup though , anyway i was giving it water and food first every 30 mins fore like 2 hours a dropper full of each and then after that every hour for like 3 hours then i did it like 2 hours later right before i went to bed it was walking around a bit more but still very sluggish, i will be taking it to the vet tonight after work and after my wic appointment my vet is open till 10 which is nice
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Glad to hear that the little bit is moving around a bit more today. Sounds like you were a great mommy cat last night. Hope everything turns out okay.
mommy_loves_chase replied: if i could have found a box today i would have snuck it into work but i told my bf to feed it and give it water before and after work and then i will when i get home then go to my wic apt then take him to the vet if he can just make it a few more hours i really hope he is a strong kitty and wants to live cause im trying my best
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I don't think anyone could argue otherwise that you are really trying. I know uncertainty is difficult. Try to keep your chin up. I'll be thinking of you both.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: How is the kitten today? Were you able to make it to the vet?
