well, thats annoying.
PrairieMom wrote: For some reason wed night I decided to look up my Asthma medications on the computer to see about how safe they are during pregnancy. I wasn't to worried about it, I gave a full list to my OB when I went in, and I was on asthma meds with both my other 2 pregnancies. well, it occured to me that I wasn't on THIS one, Asthmanex, which is relatively new. I had been on advair which has been around for a while. well , it turns out that Asthmanex is a category C and has been linked to miscarriage and cleft palate in lab animals. Niiiiiiice. Its important to be taking a controller med since the risk of a severe asthma attack is way worse than the risk of taking the med, plus, I really have no choice, its take a little of this controller med or take a lot of other kids of meds.
So I called my OB, to see if he can prescribe me the same med I was on with my other 2 pregnancies, which, is still a category C, but not linked to miscarriage and cleft palate, but of course, he is out of the office until Monday. Way to long to go with out my meds.
So I called my GP to ask. if HE would give me a new prescription. His nurse called back and told me that he thinks my meds are ok, but If It really worries me that I can keep taking it through the first trimester, then come off it. HELLO! the first trimester is the most important part for development! is he on crack?! and IF I could come off it, why wouldn't I just do that instead of messing around with it at all?!
So, now I am back to square one. I'm gonna quit taking it until I talk to my OB, and just hope I can breath ok until then. how annoying.
The other annoying thing is that I just refilled this prescription, it was $100. I took one dose of it, and it will expire before I can use it again. what a waste.
my2monkeyboys replied: That sucks! I'm sorry!!! Hope the dr. gets you some new meds Monday and that you don't have any problems before then.
MommyToAshley replied: Is there another doctor in your OB's practice that you can talk to? I worry about you going off the meds for that long.
PrairieMom replied: no, he's a solo guy. I will only be seeing him for a few more weeks, then I will be changing to someone else who will have partners.
I'm sure everything will be fine, its just so darn annoying, and I get freaked out so easily, i really don't need more reasons to worry.
I'm mainly just annoyed at my GP, or more to the point, his nurse who returned my call. what she told me is so off the wall, I am sure she got it wrong and relayed me bad info. I'm just glad I am smart enough to know not to follow bad advice.
coasterqueen replied: Yikes!!!! Do you have a nebulizer machine you can use in the meantime that might help? Also, what about just going to urgent care, can they prescribe it for you? Not sure if that is a good thing to do or not. I've got a ton of advair inhalers at home, but it wouldn't get there to you any faster and probably not your dosage.

BTW, Do you have a rescue inhaler you can use until Monday? Just a thought.
CantWait replied: That sucks, and what a tard the GP is. Hence why you never go to a GP for baby gyno advice. Hope you get ahold of your OB soon.
cameragirl21 replied: I take expired asthma meds all the time and it's never been a problem for me. What about a sample from glaxo that you may find at the hospital you work at? Is there a nurse you can call there to ask if there is one that they can hold for you? There are tons of advair samples out there and I imagine your doc's office will have one also to tide you over until your doc gets in.
PrairieMom replied: Did you just ask an RT if she had a rescue inhaler?
I do. I know from trying to go off my steroids in the past that I am usually fine for 3 days or so, I can definitely tell a difference, but I probably won't have any issues. I just get really tight in the chest .
PrairieMom replied: ITA. I firmly believe in seeing specialists if it is at all possible. I only use my GP for things like, I have an infection, need antibiotics and stuff like that. I love and trust my OB. but MAN what was he thinking taking time off?
He won't be delivering my baby tho. He will be referring me on to someone else after my US on the 21st because he isn't delivering babies anymore.
bluebear replied: I'd call around and see what answers you get. Have you tried calling the hospital and asking?
Our Lil' Family replied: Yeah, I definitely would stop taking it asap too. I freaked out just taking a sched. B (allegra) a few weeks ago. I hope you are ok until Monday!!
A&A'smommy replied: OH Yuck!!!! VERY annoying!!!
coasterqueen replied: I only asked because that's what I use when I'm away from home for an extended period of time and forget my advair. That happened to me while camping and I freaked out the first day remembering I forgot it and Ryan reminded me I had my rescue inhaler and just to use that. It helped, but wasn't the same.
