vent - so sorry!

jaytrevjax wrote: I've been debating for a week now whether I should do this or not, but my feelings aren't getting any better, so I knew I needed to vent to some people who will listen! First of all, if any of you work in law enforcement, you know how people will do anything to further their career! Well, Justin (my DH) is (or was) a Deputy for our County Sheriffs Dept. Well, about a month ago, he arrested someone on a warrant, simple, nothing outrageous, and then a few weeks ago, his Sgt. and Cpt. called him in because there was a descrepancy in his report. In his report, it said that he confescated (sp?) marajuana and paraphenalia from this guy, which he didn't, and of course, it's not in the evidence room. Well, there are a couple of guys that work with him that DON"T like him, he is a GREAT police officer and goes beyond what is expected, so he is really liked by the bosses and they call him alot if they need something done. Well, they got a new report writing system that had some bugs in it, and I guess one of those bugs was that anyone could go in and have access to your reports, could read them, change them ect. So we think that one of these guys went in and changed his report to get him in trouble. Well the Sgt. and Cpt. know Justin and knows he wouldn't do anything like that (besides, he's smarter than to put he took that stuff in his report and then turn around a take it!) so they were going to try and figure out who did it. Well, last week, IA (internal affairs) came down and put Justin on paid administrative leave untill a full investigation can be completed. So, we think that after the meeting with his bosses, who ever did this, found out he didn't get in trouble, and called IA.

Any way, he will probably loose his job, since he can't prove anything. but all is good, because, since he hasn't been able to progress in law enforcement like he would like, he is going back to school in the fall and is going into the nursing program. He's always wanted to be a nurse (it was between that and law enforcment) so, we think this is going to be a good move. I feel so comfortable with this change, I haven't felt like this about his job for a LONG TIME! This means I am going to have to go back to work more because we will need the insurance, but, hey, it's all good!

Thanks for listening to my ranting!

holley79 replied: Krista, first off hug.gif. Second Does he belong to FOP or PBA? He needs to contact his representative immediately if he hasn't already.

I hope he gets things worked out. I'm not sure what program they are using but our program here will show Date/ time edited. He may want to check into that.

I was just going to say the same thing. They should be able to track when it was changed. And, if you are required to log in... then they can determine who changed it as well. Even if he doesn't stay at this job, he probably should and wants to clear his name. That sounds like something that could get him into legal trouble.

Hope it all works out.

holley79 replied:
It is something that could become a legal issue if it is pursued.

I know we had a deputy that just went through the same thing. Even if he doesn't want to stay at the job he should make sure he leaves there with a clean slate.

kristy-n-chad replied: Sometimes God works in mysterious ways, and I am glad your hubby has another avenue to pursue. I know that if this is what He wants for him, that is why you have such a sense of peace about it. I hope everything works out ok! smile.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: A friend of ours, who happens to me male as well, just decided after years of one job, that he is going to go back to school for nursing as well. It's a very rewarding field. A friend of mine who works at our local hospital just loves the medical field. Good luck to him!!!

jaytrevjax replied:
Thanks for the kind words! That is what the investigation is looking into. Hopefully they will be able to catch who it was and they can be punished for what they've done. But one way or the other, even if he is offered his job back, we've decided he will still go back to school. The Utah County Sheriffs Office really treats thier deputies like CRAP! (sorry!) He's put up with it for 8 years, and he's done! SO, nursing school, here we come! Both my mom and sister are both RN's, and they have always said Justin would be an awesome nurse! He is very compasionate, and loves that kind of stuff, it doesn't even faze him! When I had my wisdom teeth pulled before we were married, he sat in the office with me and watched them pulled, and he thought my C-section was awesome! (glad one of us did!) He runs on the ambulance crew here in town and would like to take the extra little bit of schooling it takes to become a paramedic and ride with life flight also! So, I know in my heart of hearts it's all going to work out! Thanks for the love!

redchief replied: I agree with Holley... Your DH needs to get clear of those charges and his best help would come from his union. There is something that can be done. If it was known that the new system allowed others to access one anothers' reports, then they can't prove that it was impossible for someone else to alter his report. Second, what was the suspect charged with when brought in? If there were drugs, why wouldn't there have been a charge of possession? Just a couple of ideas that come to mind.

Good luck on the career change, though! One thing, though, there are vindictive people in every profession.

MyLuvBugs replied:
laugh.gif I was going to say the same things!! smile.gif He should be coverd by a representative. If I remember right (from an ex), the police are almost like in a union and have to have a rep if IA gets involved. Something to look into at least...

And if it's all computer/digital, all edits should be tracked by a date/time stamp. Even if it's a hidden one, there's is always a way to view it on the back end. KWIM?

It will be ok sweetie. Things will work out. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

MyBrownEyedBoy replied:
Krista, sorry your DH is being treated like poo. But had to ask, where in Utah?

jaytrevjax replied:
We live in a small town called Payson. It's about an hour south of Salt Lake. Utah County is the county just south of Salt Lake. I take it you live in Idaho? My aunt and uncle live in Idaho Falls, we are actually going up there Thursday for a reunion. Where do you live?

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Pocatello. You'll be driving through on your way to Idaho Falls
