vacuum cleaners
PrairieMom wrote: I'm in the market for a new vacuum. Anyone have one that they just LOVE?
Calimama replied: DYSON!!
ETA: Target is having a sale, if you buy a Dyson they give you a 100 dollar gift card!
PrairieMom replied: That would be awesome, since I am using a $140 gift card to buy it. I have heard that they aren't worth the $ tho, that they don't out-do other baggless uprights in testing. (per consumer reports) They say the Kenmore progressive is the way to go.
Calimama replied: Wellll I can only compare it to a crappy Bissel we used to have.. but it beats that one!
PrairieMom replied: We have a hoover now, and we had okay luck with it, but we have a TON of dog hair around here, and I want to upgrade ya know?
luvmykids replied: I swear by Dyson...I've had mine for almost four years and still going strong. I tested mine at home against a two yo Kenmore and it beat the pants off it for dog hair. The Kenmore might be better now but I still LOVE my Dyson.
You could always try it and take it back if you don't like it.
PrairieMom replied: I think I really want a dyson too. I just wanted to make sure they live up to the hype. I don't want to pay all that $ for just a name ya know?
The kenmore I was thinking of is $270. Is a dyson really worth the extra $200?
luvmykids replied: IMHO, yes, partly because they also have such a great warranty. I'm not sure if they still do it this way, but when I bought mine it had a full replacement warranty...if any little thing broke, I'd get a whole new vacuum. I've never had anything happen to it but love the thought of getting a new vacuum rather than just repairs.
Plus, when I tested mine at home, there was no question that it picked up about double the dog hair and dirt of the Kenmore. I even vacuumed the areas I'd used the Kenmore on and the Dyson picked up stuff there too.
Granted, I haven't tried the new Kenmores, they may have really upped their design to compete. Are you by chance going to Sears to buy it? I always find their staff really helpful and very honest.
eta: One more thing I love...if you get a clog it's super easy to get it out. It's in one of three places and you're back in business. In my old vacuum I could never figure out how to get all the parts of to unclog it
Brias3 replied: That was a big selling point for me on the Dyson- the warranty alone! Honestly though, I've had great luck with it.
jcc64 replied: I have a 17 yr old Electrolux that my granny gave me for a wedding present. It still works like a charm, and I'm grateful, b/c apparently they now cost $1200!!!!!!
redchief replied: I'm thinking that would be worth twice it's original price on Ebay.
Jamison'smama replied: I have a Dyson also. I can say that when we bought our house, the upstairs bedroom smelled like smoke so we put down carpet sprinkle and swept it up with our Hoover, we probably vacuumed the floor at least a dozen times after that. We then decided to replace the vacuum with a Dyson, the first time we used it we got up a TON of carpet sprinkle the other vacuum had left behind after numerous uses. We were sold! If I got a new one, I would get the pink Dyson that was in the Target ad this week
PrairieMom replied: $1200?!?!?!? I have heard really good things about those, and I know that they last forever. I was thinking of one of those too, but there is no way I would spend anywhere near that amount!
Crystalina replied: It must be that time of year because my sisters just broke and mine busted a belt last night and I have not been able to find a replacement anywhere. We have the Eureka Whirlwind but we will be getting a new one this coming weekend. I only have oriental rugs to vacuum but if I don't do it everyday they look horrible.
grapfruit replied: I have the gray Dyson (w/all the attachments) and I LOVE it! I was sold when the salesman opened the container of dirt all over the carpet in Sears and vaccumed it all up. It was great! I have a long haired cat that loves to lay on my suade couch to look out the window. I vaccum the back of the couch all the time. Before w/my crappy vaccum I'd have to go over it w/a sticky roller b/c it wouldn't get all the hair.
Mommy2Isabella replied: DYSON!!! We have one that is a couple years old. We bought a Kirby and I MUCH prefer the Dyson ... we ended up selling our kirby.
We may upgrade to a newer dyson before the end of the year!!!
Boo&BugsMom replied: We have one that is comparable to the Dyson, only half the cost. I love it so far. No bags or replacing filters. Just clean it out and you're good to go and it does not lose any suction unless it's time to clean out the canister. It's a Hoover Mach5. It was about $160 I think. Got it at Walmart.
holley79 replied: I LOVE the Dyson. I borrowed a friend of ours and vacuumed with it. I have been drooling over one for sometime. DH refuses to let me have one though because they are TOO expensive.
Boys r us replied: Yeah..my central vac...I could never live without it and have made it clear to my DH that I never will!!!!! I don't care where we move if we ever do...don't care what the house looks like or what color the counter tops are..but there WILL be a central vac!!
gr33n3y3z replied: those are the best and you cant get better I wish I had that system
PrairieMom replied: oh, that would be awesome. I wish I had known about those when I was building my house.
luvbug00 replied: we have a hoover eliete rewind ( i hate it) heavy and bulky so there is one to avoid.
moped replied: I have central vac - and love it
