update on my yeast diet.
PrairieMom wrote: Well, its officially been just over a month since I started my Candida diet, and well, I would LOVE to say that its working, but I really don't think that it is.
For one month I have avoided sugar, in any form, including artificial sweeteners, and natural frut sweeteners All yeast containing products including all breads, crackers, and alcohol Any refined grains, so no flour, white rice, or anything like that Any thing that contains vinigar including ALL condiments Milk and milk products, (for the most part) I have been sneaking a little cheese here and there) All carbs All fruit
I have had NO caffine, and NO chocolate in a MONTH! How could I have let THAT happen? LOL
Basically I have been living on whole grain hot cereal, Steamed and stir fried Vegis and meat. I have lost about 5 pounds.
Unfortunately, about 2 weeks ago my thrush came back, ( I knew it would) since the diet can only weaken the fungus. SO, when It came back I called my Dr for the prescription he wanted to put me on, but he was out of town for the week. (Perfect) the Dr covering refused to order it for me, so I had to wait an entire week before I could get it called in. Once it was called in, it took another week (plus me constantly calling both my Dr and insurance company before the pharmacy would fill the med for me. So, by then I had Quite a lot of thrush growing. It was unbelievable disgusting. I was HIGHLY HIGHLY annoyed, especially since that meant that I had wasted 2 whole weeks of eating like this for nothing. I FINALLY got the med and have been on it for a few days. I have to take it for a week, and if it doesn't work I can take it for a week again next month. I can do that 3 times before I know if it is going to work or not. ALl the while I have to be following this diet religiously.
At least I'm not crying at every meal anymore the first few weeks were really tough for me. Looks Like I won't really know if this is working until at least the end of summer.
amymom replied: Oh Tara, I have been wondering how you were doing and am glad you updated. I wish you had great news, but maybe someday you will. I hope so. I know it is supposed to take time to weed it all out of your system. I hope this med helps. My thoughts are with you.
holley79 replied: Tara I was wondering how that was going. I hope it just goes away and leave you alone.
momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: I am sure you have tried everything under the sun, and your Dr. probably doesn't want you doing anything else right now, but I found this info at the Mayo Clinic. Good luck. I wish you the best.
Treating oral thrush in healthy adults If you're a healthy adult with oral thrush, you may be able to control the infection by eating unsweetened yogurt or taking acidophilus capsules or liquid. Acidophilus is available in natural food stores and many drugstores. Some brands need to be refrigerated to maintain their potency. Yogurt and acidophilus don't destroy the fungus, but they can help restore the normal bacterial flora in your body. If this isn't effective, your doctor may prescribe an antifungal medication.

PrairieMom replied: Thanks for the info. I am acutally taking both Acido, and eating yogurt. Hopefully all this will pay off soon.
CantWait replied: Sorry no luck so far Tara. Sounds extremely fustrating
luvmykids replied: Poor you, I honestly don't think I could stick with a diet like that. I hope the meds kick in for you.
Is this something you've always had and it was just dormant? Or was it brought on by something else?
PrairieMom replied: I don't know. I have had problems for probably 12 years, but it has gotten really bad since Ben was born.
A&A'smommy replied: Oh Tara that sounds awful, but you are doing great, and I hope it starts working for you soon.
gr33n3y3z replied: hang in there hun you have to get rid of the bad in your system before it will work
redplaydoh replied: Good job sticking to that diet! I don't think I'd have the willpower.... I don't know specifics but a naturopathic doctor I worked for successfully treated a woman with years and years of chronic yeast infections and thrush... there was something about it being in her stomach and digestive tract too. She was skeptical coming in because nothing in the past had worked. I think it was gone in 3 months... I have no idea what the treatment was, but maybe checking with a naturopathic physician would be an alternative???
PrairieMom replied: That would be ideal, unfortunately, there isn't one in my area. I looked. A lot of Dr's think this chronic yeast thing is a bunch of baloney because all the symptoms could easily be caused by other things, and there is no way to prove that yeast is causing it. (no tests or anything) so they don't believe that a chronic yeast condition even exists.
I feel very lucky because my family practice Doc is at least a believer. He's the one that got me going on a diet, (its was the WRONG diet) but at least he is trying and not writing me off. I have done lots on internet research and bought a few books that have been more helpful than anything.
