update on jacob - (went to ER)
jacobsmama wrote: So I posted earlier today but I wanted to update for those who were wondering..
I took him to ER after I posted on here and they did as I thought and called the Ped. I insisted that they check everything because he wasn't feeling well. So they did urine, blood and throat cultures. Meanwhile he still had fever 104.
We waited there for a few hours and they gave him tylenol suppository which really helped him Then they came back in and said that he has sever tonsilitis and if not better by friday and not reacting to antibiotics they will have to come out......
Well I knew something wasn't right with him and stinks I had to go back to ER 2 times in one day to get him treated right and he saw a different ped because I went to the hospital that my ped doesn't have privelages at just to get 2nd opinion. He also said (like idahoboo) that the steroids he uses occassionally need to be cut WAY out becuase that is only making him weaker. So we are hanging in there..He could have stayed over night but I chose to come home and take care of him and we left at 9pm and his temp was 99!!!!!!!!!!!!! yeah! I'm so glad he is doing better and not feeling so crummy...It was just breaking my heart.
thanks to everyone who was here for me...My heart is hurting for him, I wish I could be sick instead of him.
kayla's mama replied: Glad you finally got answers for Jacob. Poor little guy Hope he gets feeling better and the meds work
jacobsmama replied: thanks brandi he is sleeping now and no fever right at the moment hope he has a quiet night.
redchief replied: It is unfortunate but I see this way too often in busy ED's. The docs immediately diagnose viral and send the child home. Good for you not allowing them to blow you off. Our old pediatrician once told me, and people in health care should heed his words because they come from the wisdom of experience, he said, "Listen to the child's mom. She knows when something's wrong with one of her kids before anyone else does." I loved and miss that man.

luvmykids replied: I'm so sorry for the poor little guy! Hope you both get some much needed rest and that his tonsils don't have to come out!
Brias3 replied: Oh my goodness, I must have missed your first post because I didn't even realize what you've been dealing with today!
Poor little Jacob Hope he's feeling much better! I'm so sorry the little guy has to go through this. Keep us posted on his recovery
C&K*s Mommie replied: So good to hear that you stood your ground, and they finally listened! I am glad that he is doing better, and you have a direction to go in now (severe tonsilitis), many more prayers for him and continued prayers for you.
I will heed the advice of Ed, and by your example- to be sure not to stop at the first feasible answer given just to pacify me. You knew something was wrong, I am glad you kept on about it until you were given a straight one.
ilovemybaby replied: I'm glad to hear it wasn't something more serious. I'm a bit shocked that they did not think to look at his throat the first time you took him to the ER. Tonsillitis sure does give high temperatures and it isn't nice... I had it about 4 years ago and had aches and chills like the flu, REALLY sore throat and high temperature and couldn't get out of bed because I was all dizzy and faint. I lay in bed half a day before I managed to get out of bed to call my doctor and make an appointment. My throat was covered in white pus. It's horrible. And it only takes one or two days to get like that.
PrairieMom replied: I hope he starts to feel better soon .I'm sorry you had to take him in twice. ER visits are not fun.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I hope he starts to feel better soon. Congrats to you for sticking with it - I know it must have been a pain for you to go twice, but you did what was right for your little guy. WTG!
ediep replied: OMG! I am soooo happy that they found the cause of his pain, poor guy!! I still can not believe that you had to go to the ER twice!! that is insane that they didn't see that the first time
hope he is feeling better soon
na81 replied: I'm so glad you went with your mommy instinct and took him in to get a second opinion! Hope he feels better soon and doesn't have to get his tonsils out! KUP! I hope you and Jacob get some much needed rest!
Our Lil' Family replied: I couldn't help but think the same thing! Did they not check his throat the first time? That along with ears should be and is standard here with ANY ped. visit.
Glad you got answers and I hope he responds to the antibiotics soon!!! Get Well Jacob!!!
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I am glad to hear he is doing better!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: I am so glad you took him back. sometimes doc just are not right, guess thats why they call it practice. I hope your ped better listens to you now when you take him in, if not time to find one who will.
