transient hypogammaglobulinemia - jakob

boyohboyohboy wrote: Help, my allergist just said that some of jakes preliminary lab work came back and it shows he isnt producing antibodies..he isnt fighting infections, they are going to test him to see if his body is accepting the antibodies from the vaccinations he has been receiving so far.
she mentioned it might be a immature immune system.
I only spoke to her for a few mins on the phone and we have an appt tomorrow to discuss this further
I just wondered if anyone has come across this before?????

OH just when i think jake is ok, we keep running into road blocks. I so just want him to be ok.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: All I can add besides prayers is an observation that the term transient means that it isn't likely to last. Hopefully things go smoothly tomorrow for you and Jake.

3xsthefun replied: I'm so sorry. I haven't heard of anything like that. I'm sending positive thoughts for Jake. hug.gif

mom2my2cuties replied: I just copied this straight out of one of my books. I know it sounds a lot like garboly gook, with some of the words, and I will try to explain later on - I am in the middle of a catering job and just dropped in to tell you this and give you big huge hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif and let you know that I will be praying for you and Jake!

Transient hypogammaglobulinemia of infancy (THI) is a relatively common primary immunodeficiency disorder affecting infants and young children. Following birth, maternal immunoglobulin G (IgG) is catabolized, and IgG synthesized by the infant gradually accumulates. Serum levels typically reach their physiologic nadir in infants aged 3-6 months. Transient hypogammaglobulinemia of infancy is characterized by decreased serum IgG and immunoglobulin A (IgA) levels less than 2 standard deviations (SDs) from age-adjusted reference range levels in the first years of life, but with normal to near-normal antibody responses to protein immunizations. These levels increase to the reference range in children usually by age 2-6 years. Investigators consider transient hypogammaglobulinemia of infancy a prolongation of this physiologic condition.

boyohboyohboy replied: we spent the night searching for this, and actually saw the same site karen posted (thank you) and we talked to several of our family members, it appears there are a few of us that have a history of immune deficiency diseases, including lupus..we are very anxious to talk to the dr tomorrow, she mentioned this dx as a possiblilty as to what has been going on with jake.
He really has been doing better, I havent had him weighed but he is eating better and appears to have bulked up some, his OT mentioned it to us this week.
he even ate and swallowed mac and cheese!
thanks for all the kind words...its the support here I love...

msoulz replied: Aw stacy, I'm sorry you got news that wasn't positive. It is great to know he is eating!!! So whatever is up or not, it sure sounds like he is doing better and that is awesome. thumb.gif

Hang in there!!! hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

DansMom replied: Oh, that is worrisome---if it is that, it's good to know that it does go away as your child gets older; also it helps explain some of the symptoms he's been experiencing.

I like to hear that Jakob is eating better these days! I thought about you guys this morning at breakfast. Daniel ate two frozen waffles (not the edges, of course), and I remembered how much I used to worry about how little he was eating.

If you feel like experimenting with a new approach to treating immune system disorders, I highly recommend glyconutrition. I buy products from Mannatech---they're expensive, but we've seen impressive results with Daniel's asthma and seasonal allergies (which were virtually nonexistent this year). I'm still waiting to put my full seal of approval on the product---we have food allergy testing in January. If that looks good, I'll be a total convert---will keep you posted!

sparkys2boys replied: I'm sorry. I hope that he is ok. Keep us posted ok. hug.gif
