sun tan lotion - new helioplex?

boyohboyohboy wrote: Has anyone used the new sun tan lotions with the helioplex?
I heard its better then the old ones, it blocks uvb and uva rays.
My kids are always so sentive to products though, and I wondered if anyone
was having any trouble with it.
I also read it can be applied and protects up to 5 hours.
I had always thought lotion needed reapplied hourly..?

msoulz replied: Never heard of it but sounds like something to look into for sure. blush.gif

luvbug00 replied: Yeah i think your supposed to reply often. We don't though, I wonder if the product makers have ever chased a 5 year old arround the pool trying to get lotion on them before..? emlaugh.gif

TheOaf66 replied: def have to look into it, Tanner burns like I do

Boo&BugsMom replied: Are your kids allergic to the PABA in sunscreen? Our son is, which is what makes him break out. If it's PABA free, I'd give it a try. We've had to stick to Water Babies because it's one of the few that don't give him hives all over his body. It's been pretty good for up to 3 hours or so.

boyohboyohboy replied: jakob has eczema really bad and water babies is the only suntan lotion the derm. said we could use...
but I just heard of this new stuff on tv.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Tanner has eczema too, I wonder if that is why WB doesn't make him break out too. That, and the PABA free formula. I'll have to look up this stuff. It sounds like it lasts a lot longer than most. Does it say PABA free on the label at all that you know of?

boyohboyohboy replied: Yes. its paba free, fragrance free, chemical free. and costs alot right now, since its new, its a "chemical" thats mostly in store brands, like high end store brands. I havent used it yet, just wondered if anyone else had.
I find that jake cant tolerate the heat well, due to the eczema, but the water babies it the only one that didnt cause him to get a rash. wub.gif

Did you happen to see the report this morning on the Today Show? They were talking about spray based sunscreens in general and featured the helioplex ones as well. They said all must be reapplied every two hours. They also mentioned that spray applications are alcohol based. I would guess that might aggravate an already existing skin condition.

msoulz replied: Did the story say if any of the options are more effective than the others?

mom21kid2dogs replied:
Not really other than to say that the ones that block UVB and UVA are the best to use regardless of age and to always use at least a 45 SPF on children. Ann Curry pointed out that the clear spray ones are much harder to see, coverage~wise, (they do leave a "sheen" on the skin) and that you might be prone to miss a spot on a child (my thoughts exactally).
