I am in charge of eats this year and I'm clueless. I'm trying to be a little exotic. no one at my house grooves to ham or turkey after thanksgiving. Maybe some orange duck or something..who knows.
what are all of you making? or did you make?
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Well somehow over the last few years, swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes have become a Christmas tradition for us... not sure why. We also usually have lemon and garlic breaded chicken breast or something like it for those who aren't too crazy about the meatballs. We got sick of having turkey so soon again after Christmas too, so that's why we changed it but I know know how we came up with those particular dishes. Then we have the usual side dishes... corn, green bean casserole, hash brown casserole, cranberry salad and the like. OH that reminds me... my sister and I were talking about making a cookie salad but I forgot to go get the stuff for it. Yeesh!
moped replied: Cookie salad?????
MoonMama replied: I'm no help we do the usual smoked turkey and ham.
Ditto what's cookie salad??
coasterqueen replied: I am am extremely traditional person, so I'm probably no help.

stella6979 replied: Since it's just us I picked up a couple of cornish hens. We'll also have mashed taters, green beans, stuffing, rolls and a salad.
bluebear replied: Prime rib for Christmas!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I've always wanted to try cornish hens. Do they taste like chicken, or duck, or what? I'm clueless. Your Christmas Dinner sounds yummy!
Jen and Ally, there are a few different variations to cookie salad, but this is the one I meant - http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Cookie-Salad-I/Detail.aspx
mom21kid2dogs replied: They taste like chicken. Very easy and tasty!!!
mom21kid2dogs replied: Roast Beast & noodles, mashed potatoes, veggies and dessert. The beast is done in the Crock Pot so no one works too hard on Christmas Day.
youngmomofone replied: My mom is still doing the holidays. She used to do the traditional turkey dinner for Christmas too, because she usually got two free turkeys at Thanksgiving. This year, however, my dad is going to bbq a roast (tastes like brisket yumm), potatoes, and make a three layer chili cheese dip with chips.
A&A'smommy replied: so i know I'm a little late but at the inlaws we had chili, taco soup, and potato soup.. we also had TONS of cookies, candy, chips and dip, crackers, sausage and crackers. At my parents we had chinese food, and at my grandmothers we had ham, chicken tenders, apple-cheese bake, 7 layer salad, spinach-mandarine salad, sausage balls, Mac n cheese, cresant rolls, deviled eggs, and some awesome spinach and shrimp dip SO good!!
jcc64 replied: Always different every year. This year for Christmas Eve, we had Korean style salmon, lemon chicken, swiss chard, green beans and shitaki mushrooms, and baked mac n cheese for the kids. Christmas day--shrimp and pasta puttanesca and oysters Rockefeller.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: We do a huge turkey dinner for Thanksgiving and a huge ham and roastbeef dinner for Christmas.
luvbug00 replied: sara the meatballs sound great!
we had the shrimp and snow peas. it was ok..
Swood75 replied: Well,at my parents,we had chilli, clam chowder, subs, chips, crackers and all kids of goodies my mom made up..At Chris' sisters house we had sandwiches chips and salsa (guess everyone was too lazy to cook) I WON'T do anything at our house anymore for the fact that we had pretty much ALWAYS had holiday dinners etc at our house in the past and we were ALWAYS cooking big dinners and nobody brought anything or even offered to help money wise or anything plus they ALWAYS leave a mess that I get stuck having to clean up... So,NO MORE!!!
Our Lil' Family replied: We had 3 days worth of parties. Thursday was here with my mom and we had ham, cornbread dressing, green bean casserole and rolls. Pies for dessert.
Friday my SIL had seafood gumbo, potato salad and I made Ooey Gooey Butter cake and pumpkin roll for dessert.
Saturday my dad fried a turkey, smoked a pork roast and had rice dressing, sweet pea salad, fried bread and Ruth's Chris sweet potato casserole.
TOO MUCH EATING!!!!!!!!!
