sleep issue gotten worse
sunrosejenn wrote: I'm at my wits end. *pulling hair out* I have no idea what else to do. Eliana is afraid to go to sleep both during the day and at night.
And she ends up saying she has to go potty 50 million times and most of the time she does go. She will go to sleep but you have to lay on the floor in the same room. I already have back issues and the floor is making it worse. She also STILL wakes 3-4 times a night.
This has been going on for 2 months now and I just want to sleep and Eliana to sleep on her own. She has never fallen asleep on her own. Even when she misses a nap she won't fall asleep right away at bedtime. And YES she still needs a nap as she gets super grumpy if she doesn't. I'm just tired of it taking an hour to get her to fall asleep.
As time goes on her sleeping issues get worse. What would cause them to get worse as she gets older? She used to be a great sleeper and now she is not
HELP!!!

grapfruit replied: Is she having night terrors?? Why is she scared?
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Sorry to hear that you are having trouble. I know they have more vivid dreams at this age. Is she watching any shows before bedtime that may be scaring her at all? Are you giving her something to drink before she goes down that may be keeping her up? Caffeine of any kind? Sugary drinks? I'm really not sure. Have you tried some white noise, like a fan? Or let her pick out some soft music CDs? Wil still uses his baby lulluby CDs at naptime and bedtime.
Wil is close to the same age and he goes through sleeping phases. Some weeks I can't get him to nap at all and other weeks it's everyday. I really don't have an explaination for it except that they are growing and experimenting with their independence (ie; staying up later and wanting to be where the action is). I know how exhausting it can be, but like anything, it will pass. I'm sure as soon as she starts school, she will be sound to asleep all through the night. They really tire them out.
sunrosejenn replied: no night terrors. I have no idea why she is scared but it went from 5 minutes to get her to sleep to 1 hour.
sunrosejenn replied: It could just be a phase but it's been going on for 2 months now. I do not let her watch TV before bed. She drinks, rice or goats milk, water and a tiny bit of juice (75% water 25% juice mix).
Right now she gets a bath we read books and of course talk about going to sleep. She is all fine til everything is done with and it's time to sleep. I can try music again but my BF hates that it might still be playing after we go to sleep.
She naps about 85-90% of the time but it takes 1-2 hours sometimes. At night it only takes an hour but it's VERY exhausting for me as it's all me and no help with Eliana.
I used to get her ready at 7:30-7:45 and by the time we had our routine done she was out by 8. Now we start at 7:30 bath then at 8 we start the rest and by the time she falls asleep it's 9 or so but ONLY if I lay on the floor in her room.
Eliana won't start preschool til Aug 08 since her birthday is Nov 14 and the cutoff here is Aug 1. This is a child who no matter what goes and goes and goes and fights sleep like you've never seen before.
Sunday we went to Holiday World (amusement park and water park) we got there at 11 and left at 9. 40 minutes drive home and then it still took an hour to get her to sleep. And trust me she was running practically all day.
Eliana does not get the amount of sleep she should be getting for her age. which in turn means I hardly sleep. I slept more when she was a newborn then I do now. I thought it was supposed to get better as they got older. Guess not with Eliana.
moped replied: YOu could make her CIO?
They need about 12 hours at night and a 2 hour nap..........IMO
sunrosejenn replied: I'd love to do CIO but with her reflux she pukes within 30-60 seconds if she gets too upset. Eliana gets 10 hours a sleep per day sometimes less
momofone replied: Hi sorry to hear about your daughter The only suggestion I have is maybe try eliminating the goats milk because animal milks cause diabetes in children I know because my husband has it and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I give my daughter soy milk or oj with calcium. Hope that helps.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: You poor thing. Sounds like you are doing everything you can.
Sorry for all the questions...But does she go to daycare? Do you think something is happening there that is worrying her? I was a worrier when I was little. Much more than I probably should have been for such a young age. I was super sensitive and scared to speak up to adults. I don't remember if that interupted my sleep (I haven't asked my mom), but it was just something that came to me. Maybe she is worried about something that is happening during the day. It could be something as simple as going potty alone or sharing a toy with a friend. Or trying to do cartwheel but can't. This is the time kids start to feel pressure from their peers to keep up, kwim? I guess what I'm trying to say is I can't sleep when I'm a bit stressed about something either. Just a thought.
Again, I'm sorry. I really don't know what to tell you. Maybe talk to her ped about it.
sunrosejenn replied: I've never heard of that about goat's milk and diabetes. OJ causes upset stomach with her reflux.
Eliana can NOT have dairy, soy, gluten, wheat, corn, potato, nuts, white rice and sugar (she can have natural sugar but not added)
sunrosejenn replied: Don't be sorry about all the questions its great to talk things over with someone and see if there is anything else to try or something that was missesd to figure things out such as this.
Eliana's last day at daycare was July 5th I got laid off from work but the sleep issue getting worse started before then. The sitter said it took her awhile to fall asleep there too but this was before she was potty trained even. Sitter said it would take her 45-60 minutes before she fell asleep. She had been with this sitter from Aug 06-July 07
Thanks! I was trying to avoid calling the pedi's office but guess I don't have a choice.
momofone replied: I did alot of research on milks because I didn't want my daughter getting sick. And what I read was it was the animal protein in the milks that children have a hard time breaking down in their systems
One of the first signs of diabetes is frequent urination thats why I got concerned when you said that.
sunrosejenn replied: I understand. Thanks!
momofone replied: Sorry I was also thinking maybe UTI urinary tract infection if she's peeing alot Just trying to help
