similac vs enfamil
J-rod wrote: whats the difference in these two? anything make one better than the other? i know steph wants the liquid formula and not the powder....i was gonna stop and get some after work today.
Momof3inMe replied: I formula fed all of my children and what I did was get whatever they ate in the hospital. You never know how they will react to the formula so I would waite to see how things go. Right now Leah is on similac and is doing great. The other kids were on enfamil.
J-rod replied: well she is gonna BF...but we need formula too for when he is with me and not around stephs B... lol
1lilpeanut2love replied: I chose Enfamil Lipil with Iron. The hospital gave me some first.
To be honest I think it's MUCH cheaper to get the powder. You get MORE in the powder than the liquid too. That's what I used. The liquid may be easier but for the powder all you do is add water.
holley79 replied: The liquid, imo, wasn't cost effective. I bought Nursery water and Simlac w/ iron. Annika seems to do well with it. Mostly she is getting BM but she does get supplemented.
J-rod replied: so you all think the powder is better.... i was thinking the liquid so i can just snap a nipple on the bottle and feed, not having to mix something while we're out.
holley79 replied: You can pre make a bottle to take out if you want. The pre mixed just didn't seem to last long from what I was reading. You could give it a try though. You can only do what works best for you and your wittle one. They are all different and what works for one doesn't always work for another.
My2Beauties replied: They have little things you can buy now, looks like a bowl and it has 4 sections so you can put a pre-filled amt of the powder formula in there and just take a bottle of water with you and pour the powder in there when it's bottle time. I always used Good Start with comfort proteins and it was the best, it has DHA and ARA in it which are nutrients found in breastmilk, so that would be a great thing to use when mommy's BB aren't there Hanna never had a problem with it, she had problems with anything else though. Similac and Enfamil are way more expensive too if you ask me.
J-rod replied: we actually have a few of those.
Boo&BugsMom replied: If you are out, having the already mixed liquid formula will spoil faster. Buy a measuring canister you can get at Toys R Us, Walmart, etc. that has 3-4 sections in it to put pre-measured powder. I read you already found those...they are GREAT! Gte a couple of them. Fill the bottle with water only before you go out and take the pre-measured container with you. Pour it in the bottle when ready to eat, shake, and serve.
I would not recommend the liquid. It not only spoils faster, but you can't take it with you and store it easily without something to keep it cold. Its also not cost effective.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Just another suggestion. I wouldn't buy any or stock up on any formula until you know for sure which one will suite the baby best. Tanner had to go through 4-5 different kinds until we found one that suited him. It ended up being those $20 a jar Alimentum stuff they make for colicy babies. If we would have stocked up, we wouldn't have wasted an aweful lot of money! You just never know if they have allergies, etc. It's best to wait.
Oh, and don't fall for the cheap Carnation Good Start prices either. You end up using more formula per bottle and the canisters are smaller. It comes out to be the same, but they make it seem like you are getting more for your money, but you're not.
~Lynda~ replied: I used all of them and ended up liking Equate (Wal-Mart brand). I preferred the powder b/c I could mix it with warm water and not have to heat it up. It' was very portable & didn't spoil and the Equate brand wouldn't fizz and bubble up when you shook it like all the other brands so it was easier on Jinna's tummy.
MyLuvBugs replied: Hey J-rod I did BF (as best I could), but never produced enough milk for little miss thing so we had to suppliment with formula which happens sometimes. However, don't buy it yet. Wait and buy small amounts first until you find out what baby's tummy can handle. I can not tell you how much formula we wasted on Lorelei b/c her tummy was so flippin' sensitive.
Also, you can get concentrate liquid that's a little cheaper than the standard liquid premix stuff. However the cheapest is usually powder when it comes to formula feeding.
If Steph is planning on BFing though, you might want to think about just getting a pump and have her pump extra for when the baby is around you....that's definately the "cheapest" thing as far as feeding goes b/c it's Free!
