rolling - what can i do?

huggybugboy wrote: So Miles has gotten pretty good at rolling. So good that now he is rolling over in his crib when he's asleep. When he wakes up face down he panics and screams his head off and can't figure out how to turn back over. And everytime I put him down in his crib he tries to automatically roll. Tonight, instead of falling right to sleep like he usually does at night he has rolled over at least 5 times and Ive had to go calm him down again and turn him over. What is going on? Is there anything I can do to prevent him from rolling in the crib? He keeps getting himself stuck in the corner and I'm worried he's going to really hurt himself! I had to take out the bumper pads so he wouldn't suffocate but everytime I go check on him he's right up next to the headboard. Anyone else have this problem?

ediep replied: wow! that a toughie....Jason started sleeping on his belly when he learned to roll, I guess he was more comfortable that way. Jason was a little older and I didn't really have to worry about him burying his face, could easily roll over both ways.

Maybe during the day try to work on getting him to roll over belly to back and back to belly so he won't get stuck on his belly.

good luck, hope someone else can be more help blush.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: We used a wedge for Wil for quite a long time and swaddled him. We call them "book ends" because they wedge up against them on both sides. This kept him on his back. As soon as Wil really learned to roll though, we took the bumper out like you did and I sorta just let him roll to each side of the crib. Wil could lift his head though by that time and knew to move it, so I wasn't really worried. Maybe practice more tummy time so that he gets comfortable moving his head when he's face down. Good luck!

mummy2girls replied: you can get one of those things that holds the baby on his/her back and prevents them from rolling. But work on the rolling during the day as well.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I never bothered to spend money on those wedges.... I just rolled up 2 big beach towels and put them on either side of my kids. Kept them in their position.

huggybugboy replied: Thanks guys...it was a tough night. I think I might try the beach towel thing tonight. He can lift his head well and during the day he can roll over both ways. I think that he just wakes up a little during the night and when he realizes that he's on his belly he just panics and doesn't know how to get back. Thanks for the tips. Are those wedge things very expensive? I though they were just for tiny babes.

ediep replied:
be careful with this. I learned in my lamaze class that this could be dangeous in the crib, since you aren't watching... when the baby gets a little bigger, he could grab hold of the towel and it could unwrap and it could be a suffication hazard.

it isn't really a big deal at naptime during the day since you are around.

the wedges aren't much money, and safer

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
iagree.gif I think the wedge I bought was under $10. I've also seen bumpers that are made of mesh so that they are breathable. Here it is One Step Ahead. I see they have wedges and crib spacers too!

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I put duct tape around them to hold them rolled up - I noticed they didn`t stay rolled up TOO well once Zach was about 5 months old.... emlaugh.gif

But I didn`t use them very long... maybe 3 weeks? dunno.gif

mom2tripp replied: I'm so sorry that you are going through this. Tripp has been a tummy sleeper since birth (I know I know, Bad momma) I hope the wedge will help for you!!

kellibellisdillybear replied: isn't that just darndest thing?? he sounds just like Dylan I swear! in the begining, he only wanted to sleep on his tummy, now that he's used to it, he only wants to sleep on his back!! he scoots himself up into the corner and gets so peeved! what are we gonna do with these guys?

huggybugboy replied: When he was really young, he wouldnt fall asleep except on his belly. He's getting better about the rolling thing already...he woke up on his back and stayed there this morning! But now he gets his foot stuck in the crib slats. rolleyes.gif Oh well, what will we do? tongue.gif

Tamatha replied: Katie,

Have I mentioned how absolutely adorable Miles is?! wub.gif (I know, I know, I just can't help it! He's a little doll!)
