removed patchs - jakob
boyohboyohboy wrote: this am i took off the 16 patchs on jakes back. so far no reddness. i see that he was tested for milk also, now he didnt test positive for the milk skin prick test and now the patch test also looks neg. so does that mean his milk allergy might have resolved?! that would be wonderful. it also looks like all the meats are ok, maybe all along it was the egg thats been causing him all this trouble.. i am so praying its just one thing, and we can deal with it..he told us that if we stay away from the egg for 18 months he should outgrow it.. we go find out tomorrow
amynicole21 replied: I'm no expert, but I'd say that if he didn't react to two different milk tests that he's outgrown it~ Yay!!
coasterqueen replied: There is no real definite test, from my understanding, to determine if someone is allergic to the milk dairy protein. The only true way is dairy elimination to see if the symptoms stop. So IMO, he may not have grown out of it.
luvmykids replied: Sounds great so far! You could try eliminating egg first and see if he still reacts to the milk, but I know they can outgrow the milk allergy so good luck!
Mommy2Isabella replied: Here's to hoping its only an egg allergy.
Bella has a milk allergy as well as I do, it makes for a bland diet sometimes ... however, I haven't outgrown my allergy ... but I hope your son did!
lisar replied: I am hoping for the best. KUP!!!
boyohboyohboy replied: oh I guess i over reacted...or got to excited to soon..
jake is covered in spots. he is reacting to everything...
i feel just so down in the dumps. i was so excited.. this is horrible
MyBabeMaddie replied: I am soo sorry to hear that! Poor guy
luvmykids replied: Oh no!!!! That is soooo disappointing to hear
boyohboyohboy replied: it started out just fine, there are markers on his back where the tin cups were, then it was only slightly red from pulling all the tape off. he started acting like he was itching, and then i checked him and his has red flakey skin and raised hives in almost all the circles where the cups were. he is reacting to milk, chicken, pork, turkey, wheat, barley, oats, peas, soy, tomatoe, potato, rice, corn, there are two blank ones, i just feel like its a huge kick in the teeth!
we are struggling with this, me more so since i am the one that does the cooking.. i have tried reading lables, but man they hide things in NATURAL FLAVORING, and then there are words i have never heard of. i tried checking the health food store, but it wasnt much help. and these two hour trips to phili are getting expensive, on an already strapped family..we have jake on this soy pediasure which is costing more then $40 a week just for that, and andrews special formula that is $20 every three days.. its just a huge expence..i have no idea why these kids cant eat.. or get over these allergies..
its so frustrating.. i think sometimes this is why i keep waking up in denial, i just cant deal with it. i need a break from sick kids...
sorry i am just ranting...really i am at my wits end
Mommy2Isabella replied: I am sorry you have to go through all of this. Hopefully the doc will be able to explain it to you better.
Do you shop at like whole foods or an equivalent? you could also try raw foods or really just making most of it yourself. Which can be overwhelming at times.
Kaitlin'smom replied: so when you pulled them off no reaction and now there is? if he is allergic to all this I am sorry, I cant imigine how hard it will be to find foods he can eat. I am hoping you get better answers and hope that maybe he is not allergic
luvmykids replied: I'm so sorry Stacey, I can't imagine the strain this puts on you and your whole family on a daily basis
coasterqueen replied: I am so sorry Stacy.
Definitely go with more raw foods. Go to a farmer to get meat from cows that are only grass fed. Eat raw veggies and fruits. It's all about going back to the basics, no processed at all. I know, it's very very hard.
boyohboyohboy replied: my problem is he wont eat any of this stuff. he wont eat fruits and veggies. and when they told us just keep trying if he gets hungry he will..well he didnt and he was failure to thrive and lost all that weight.. he is only heavy now due to the pediasure but that also causes him to have side effects due to the soy... i offer veggies every meal..he wont eat them, only squishes them..
DansMom replied: I don't know enough about the patch testing to know what those reactions imply for the long term. I just imagine how difficult it would be to deal with so many foods being allergenic---we deal with five, and that seems like a lot. What were the non-reaction foods?
boyohboyohboy replied: tracy they just started with these 16 patches and all of them seem to show some reaction, now whether its a true reaction due only to a specific size i dont know.. but they all show a red scaley skin lesion..and hives in the middle..almost a blister.
he is a mess today, crying and yelling and really nasty mood.
he has tested positive for all the meats, and wasnt tested yet for fish.. we were going to get a chest freezer and start getting our meat from a farmer, but now if he cant eat it anyway...
i feel so totally selfish right now.. i just wanted to be on the end of this battle not just starting again. i feel bad for even thinking of just myself in this, what i go thru, when he is the one with the real symptoms.. but it is how i think..how will i cope, how will i cook, how much more time do i have to devote to this.. i know this will pass, but sometimes its so overwhelming. i wish there was just a shot to make this better.
luvmykids replied: Do allergy shots help with food allergies at all? Hang in there, you're not selfish, this is HARD on you and it's ok to feel upset and overwhelmed and wish it would all just go away
bawoodsmall replied: I am so sorry but dont get all worried till you talk to the doctor. I know easier said than done. The only thing I can tell you is to get as much information as you can. I think Karen is right about doing more raw veggies. It wont be easy but you can do it. It will just take a little more planning and creative thinking. I would be bummimg cuz unless I have a recipe...I have no clue.
coasterqueen replied: Stacy,
Can you puree the veggies/fruits into some sort of smoothie/juice that he could drink? One of our board members wife does this because her family hates fruit and vegetables, but they love the juices.
boyohboyohboy replied: i keep telling myself just wait till tomorrow and hear what the dr says, i know that patch testing is more of an experimental thing, but he really has seemed to know what he is doing all along.. i guess its just i was so hopeful when there were no red marks.. poor jakob.
