question on Cicken pox

Kaitlin'smom wrote: how long before the break out is some one contagious? does any one know?

the sitter called me yesterday to let me know her daughter broke out with bad chicken pox, so I was wondering whats the possibilty Kait might get it. Or how long it takes to see them.

BAC'sMom replied: I have always heard it’s 7 to 21 days after exposure.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
at breakout of before you see anything?

BAC'sMom replied: Here i found this....

What Is Chickenpox?
Chickenpox is a rash illness caused by a virus. Once a person is exposed to the virus, it takes between 2 and 3 weeks before the symptoms appear. Chickenpox usually occurs in childhood. Adults who contract chickenpox are usually more ill, especially with pneumonia. Chickenpox is very common and highly contagious. Approximately 3 million cases occur each year in the United States. More than 90% of chickenpox cases occur in children less than 12 years of age.

Kaitlin'smom replied: thanks, I still wonder when the actaull exposure is before the rash or after. I guess before, just not sure how many days.

DVFlyer replied: The way I took the post above, it appears the exposure occurs 2-3 weeks before you start seeing symptoms.. i.e. fever, bumps, rash etc.

3_call_me_mama replied: With chicken pox, you are contagious the day before teh spots appear until they are all scabbed over. So you are exposed to them before the person who has them even knows they have them. It takes 7-21 days for teh spots to appear AFTER exposure. SO if someone came down with the spots today and you saw them yesterday or possibel even teh day or two before that, there's a good chance you've been exposed and can get them. No way to really tell until they appear though. HUGS and good luck!

Kaitlin'smom replied: thats I was reading abotu the and it was saying about 2 days before the spots appear. So its a good possibilty she was exposed, she was there friday and her daughter broke out sunday. It also siad it can take up to 2 weeks before she might break out. I guess now its a waiting game. I do need to call he rcause I dont think her son has had they yet either. wink.gif

3_call_me_mama replied: better now than when she's 20 smile.gif I'd pick up some aveeno just in case. oh and popsicles (not sure teh medicinal value of them but they tend to heal a lot of sickness smile.gif LOL

Kaitlin'smom replied: got the popsicles Schwans man brought them friday laugh.gif guess by the time if she were to break out we would be expecting another delevery.

I just hope if she does get them its not a bad case.

kimberley replied: i also heard a couple of weeks before the spots break out that you are highly contagious. that is how i got them when i was 18yo dry.gif

fingers crossed she doesn't get them hug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: laugh.gif I just noticed I spelled Chicken wrong in the title laugh.gif I was tried yesterday

anyway, I woudl rather her get them now than later in life and as long as its boefr middle of may, boss goes out of town so I could not be off work. I just hoep if she does get them its mild.

I just looked and she did have the vacc at 14 months old so I am not sure if she will break out or not.

mummy2girls replied:
well if she got the vac then if she catches it it should be a mild case...
