poor benny - sad news ( he's not dead)
luvbug00 wrote: Well our 1 year old poodle has caterats and is blind. We called the vet in and she said we can take him to an optimologist and have an operation done but it wouldn't fully restore his sight. ( just make things blury) right now he has perifeal vision (sp? see's out the sides of his eyes) and shadows. Brad's mom is seriously thinking of getting him a toy poodle to be his seeing eye dog. He's adapting well but has started to bump into stuff and we are pity feeding him which we aren't supposed to, but hey, we feel bad for him! I will keep you all updated on him and I'm making him a vest that says blind dog so that people are aware. ( blind dogs get startled very easily especialy when they are still adapting. )

Insanemomof3 replied: Awww that is no fun! Poor Benny.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Good idea about the vest, Nadia. I have been around blind dogs before and you sure wouldn't want anyone getting snapped at just because they startled him.
TANNER'S MOM replied: Aww poor Benny. I am sorry. Dogs become a big part of you family I know my family wouldn't be the same with out mine.. I am sorry,
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Poor Benny
My childhood dog had horrible cataracts and she was good. She could make her way around and you would never know anything was wrong with her unless you looked into her eyes and saw the clouds.
holley79 replied: Peanut is 100% blind due to diabetes. Benny will adapt with time. The main thing is try not to move too many things arund in the house. I made the mistake once and Nut kept running into it. I felt horrible. When we have company that is coming over he usually will be in the bedroom. He can't see to get out from under those many feet and people don't always pay attention. As he adapts to his eyesight lose you will amazed at how well he will do. I don't think I could do as well as Nut. He goes out in the yard, does his business, makes tracks back into the house, and navigates within our home just fine. Even when we went to my mom's for the hurricane he got use to things pretty quickly.
To you and Ben
Do they know what caused him to have cataracts this early? You said he was only a year old?
luvbug00 replied: genetics. thanks for all the advice!!
jacobsmama replied: awww to your family and Benny. My grandma had 3 poodles and each of them went blind eventually and I remember being sad for them too bumping into everything. Not moving stuff is best advice and lots of love during this scarey time for you all and benny.
3xsthefun replied: Aww, poor Benny.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Nadia I'm so sorry to hear that.
