please help me pick
cameragirl21 wrote: ok, so for my good friend's bday, I'm making her a set of notecards with a Scotty on them, she loves Scotties, it's her fave breed of dog. She prefers black but loves them all. So I found someone who has a black and a wheaten. I came to photograph the black but then they asked if I'd take pics of the two of them just for them. The wheaten was WAY more cooperative than the black who mostly sat by her owner's side and cowered the whole time, she is very shy but very sweet too. So I have narrowed it down to these two pics. I don't love either but I think they are both nice. Please tell me which one you like better for a notecard or if you just hate both. Thanks.

Btw, I'm planning on making the border plaid so it will not be black like this, this is just for the net. And these are unedited, other than sizing for the web.
Calimama replied: I think the first one for note cards!!! They are very cute dogs!!
Nina J replied: I like the first one, too. In all honesty, both are cute.
mckayleesmom replied: I like the second...
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I actually like the second one better. The first one's too "in your face" for me. Like a ball of fluff with a head. The second one is still two fluffs with a head.. but, less so, I think.
Insanemomof3 replied: The second one is best
cameragirl21 replied: lol, that is what Scotties look like, their head is meant to be 1/3 the size of their whole body. Not my fave breed but she loves them. Btw, that black is related to Barney Bush, Dubya's Scottie. She comes from the same breeder. Thanks for the opinions, so we have 2 for the first and 2 for the second...can someone break this tie? I'm leaning toward the first but I kind of like the second, just wish they'd have looked in the camera. They refused to sit too close to each other and refused to interact with each other so the shots where they are both looking at me look awkward. This one, since they are both looking sideways seems less awkward and less like they don't want to sit together. They were looking at their owner whom they both totally adore. And it's mutual, lol, those are two pampered pooches.
cameragirl21 replied: lol, Denise, you must have posted at the same time as I did. so now we have 2 for 1 and 3 for 2. Those of you who picked 2, can you explain why you prefer that one? I'm just trying to understand so I can figure out the appeal of it to determine if she would prefer that one.
Insanemomof3 replied: I like the second one because it looks like they are really interested in something and I like the expression I guess. I also like the fact that they are 2 different colors, just gives the eye more to look at. (I am not great at explaining myself. LOL)
Crystalina replied: I like the first because the color of the walkway (or whatever that is) plays very nicely with the black of the dog. It makes the picture pop a bit more IMO.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Crystal I think I don't like the 1st one for that same reason. because of the colors and where the differenc in color is, all i see is the darn dog's ears. No matter when I look my eyes are drawn back to the ears.
MoonMama replied: #1....cute doggies.
luvmykids replied: I like #2 better, I think they have more expression and prefer that they're not looking directly at the camera.
Crystalina replied: Yes, those ears are very distracting. Let me clarify, the color of the walk would be nice (imo) if the frame were to stay black. If it's going to have a plaid frame I think that would be a bit too much for that particular photo and in that case I'd go with #2.
I think everyone can look at photos and see hundred different things that are wrong or off. I know I look at some "professional" photos and can't figure out what so great about it. kwim? Then I can see one that's up for critique (getting negative feedback) and think that it's pretty darn good.
Our Lil' Family replied: I like #2 because 1. The contrast of the black one and the white one 2. I like the side angle better than straight on, especially in these two because you see more of the dog besides the face 3. I like it without the sidewalk in #1
edit: actually the camera is straight on in #2 also but they are looking away...guess I mean I like a profile shot better....
mckayleesmom replied: I like the second one because of how pretty those dogs are and you can see the side profile of their bodies. They are sitting so pretty.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: i prefer 2. Being able to see the heads make them look less...... um...misshapen????
cameragirl21 replied: thanks for your opinions, everyone. The lab that makes my note cards only prints them in sets of 25 so my plan is to contact the other lab I work with, the one that prints my pics that recently also started printing press printed cards and see if they will print them in sets of 12...if so, I could just print both pics and get 2 sets of notecards and use both pics. So if they do and the quality is as good as the lab that usually prints my notecards then that is the plan because I have no idea which pic she'd prefer. If that is not possible I will have to think about what is best, this is so confusing as I am so not a scotty expert. But they do have misshapen heads, I mean, their heads are meant to appear way too big for their bodies, that is part of the scotty look.
