plant clipping exchange?

PrairieMom wrote: Is anyone interested in doing a plant clipping exchange? I thought it might be a fun cheap way to populate our homes with new greenery. laugh.gif I figured there has to be a large variety of plants out there. laugh.gif
So, if anyone wants a few rooted clippings of a pothos Ivy or and English Ivy let me know.
I am interested in just about any kind of plant, maybe like a wandering Jew, or babys tears...
anyway, anyone interested?

Teesa®© replied: Oh, I would so LOVE that, but I'm a plant killer bawling.gif . I've even killed a cactus and a TREE!!! I guess I'm a serial plant killer bawling.gif emlaugh.gif

The children bring home plants from school and within a month they're dead bawling.gif . Although, DD brought home a Spyder Plant and it's still alive thumb.gif and it's been about 2 or 3 months now biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

PrairieMom replied:
spider plants are super easy to keep alive. thumb.gif I used to have TONS of plants. When I lived in my old apartment I literally had 22 different kinds at one point. (in 3 rooms) now I only have 4. bawling.gif Thats one of the reasons I was wondering about this.

lisar replied: Have you ever seen a elephant ear plant? My granny has one and they are so cool to look at it. They look just like an elephant ear and are thick. I was just curious.

I cant be in the swap cause the only thing I have right now are weeds, and aloe

PrairieMom replied:
I had to look them up. laugh.gif They are cool looking! We aren't tropical enough for them tho, and it says they are poisonous to children and pets. sad.gif

lisar replied:
Yea I thought they were, I wasnt sure. They are cool looking though.

grapfruit replied: I would love to, but alas, I too am a serial plant killer sleep.gif laugh.gif

Outside plants I'm able to keep alive though! smile.gif (probably b/c I don't have to do a lot to them) wink.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I'm also a serial plant killer BUT I would like to do this BUT I only have like two indoor plants aloe and something that I don't know what it is and its poisonous to children and pets too. And the outside i have all kinds of plants I have some rose Mary in my garden

PrairieMom replied: Well, maybe an exchange isn't what we need. Maybe I just need to send out some clippings?
I wonder how they would ship in a bubble mailer...
Someone interested PM me your addy and We will try it.

MommyToAshley replied:
What kind of plants are the clippings?

PrairieMom replied:
I have pothos:

Mine is just the plain green leaves tho, not the ones that are green and white

and english ivy:

with just green leaves

My3LilMonkeys replied: Sounds like you're the only one with a green thumb Tara.... emlaugh.gif

I'm a notorious plant killer as well. My last spider plant I had to give away to rescue it from my cat who kept chewing on it... rolling_smile.gif

MoonMama replied:
Oh those are my fav! thumb.gif I'm trying to grow one now with zero luck. dry.gif I got a kit from a local flower shop.

The only things I have going right now are an Orchid (doing beautifully though) and a bunch of different little cactuses.

sparkys2boys replied: Oh my..lol.. plant killers!!! See, I have a house full of plants that are thriving!! I have aloe vera, prayer plants, violets, ivy's, umbrella tree plants, cactus, and more that I have no clue are!!! I would love to send clippings out, but how the heck do you ship and them and not have them arrive dead?? Oh yea... am in Canada here tongue.gif tongue.gif Let me know and I am in!!

PrairieMom replied:
I just sent out some ivy in a bubble mailer this morning. Its a pretty hardy plant tho, I don't know how more delicate types would do. For this I dug some up, wet a few paper towels, wrapped the roots and stems in the wet towels, and placed them in a baggie, then twistie tie-d it shut. Then i put the whole thing in another baggie and into the bubble mailer. I have no idea if they will survive tho. We shall see.
I have successfully mailed strawberries using the same method and a box.

MommyToAshley replied: If it works out, I wouldn't mind getting some clippings. But, I don't have any plants in the house to share at this moment. blush.gif

PrairieMom replied:
PM me your addy, and I will throw some of that Pothos in the mail to you. Super easy, the plant I have now is from my grandma who used it at my parents 20 wedding anniversary 15 years ago, and it still going strong.
