petechiae (blood spots under the skin)
Anthony275 wrote: back in november i had these spots on my knee, i dont know where they came from; i didnt hit my leg or anything and it was there for about 2 1/2 -3 weeks. about 2 weeks ago i found one on my shoulderblade..small area of it. well i have one under my eye now...ok i am 150% sure i havent hit my eye with anything in weeks, why do i have this? i googled it and i got this picture of it on a foot link they're kinda deep red to a purple color
could this be from me being sick lately? i went on wikipedia and it said it could be caused due to low platelet count
Cece00 replied: I'd go see a Dr just in case. A quick blood test could rule out lots of things.
Crystalina replied: My teenage nephew has these spots on him. We didn't really notice it until the other day when he was messing around with the Eye Clops (btw, a kick *$$ toy!). My sister is an RN and she said that it was caused by low platelets. Maybe you should get a count.
Anthony275 replied: well i just told my mom..and as always, she tells me it's nothing and i dont have low platelets i cant go to the doctor by myself because well i dont know what to do, and i cant be by myself if im under 18 what happens if i have low platelets??
grapfruit replied: What about your dad??
Why do I think that I've been to the doctor by myself before I was 18......
Can you call the dr and ask them what the rules are??? That's what I would do...
luvmykids replied: What about the school nurse? I know they can't draw blood and all that, maybe she could send a letter home that you need a check up?
grapfruit replied: I was actually going to say this too. So I agree
And get on Yahoo!
Crystalina replied: My sis says you can get platelets if it's needed. It has to be needed though. THey won't just do it for low numbers unless they are really low. There is no food or anything to bring them up either.
Anthony275 replied: yesterday i weighed 175 and now im 170...
i really dont know why i cant go by myself, i cant even take a physical without somebody being in the room with me which was never needed before until now
im gonna go to the nurse tomorrow and if she says anything to me about it i will rub this in my moms face for the rest of the month
Cece00 replied: Uh, yeah you can go to the dr if you are under 18 by yourself. and I really think you need to.
Crystalina replied: I called her and she said to watch for bruising and external bleeding. Like if you play sports or something or get a cut and the bleeding takes forever to stop.
Anthony275 replied: cut on the area or just a cut in general?
Crystalina replied: If I call her again she's gonna kill me!
I'm thinking cut in general. The platelets help clotting throughout your entire body so I would think anywhere. If your count is low it may not clot as quickly. She also said that some people's body just always produce low counts. You may have always been like this but it's still good to get checked to be safe.
Cece00 replied: a cut in general.
if you have low platelets, you will have a problem with clotting.

mom2my2cuties replied: I have a really bad problem with this. It's because I throw up so hard that I burst the blood vessels in my face.
grapfruit replied: yikes
Crystalina replied: I only had it while pushing that fat boy of mine out. It went away....he's still here.
PrairieMom replied: just cut in general.
Don't cut your self to find out.
Anthony275 replied: i didnt go to the nurse today because i didnt know what to say. what should i tell her, i know she cant give me a blood test
Crystalina replied: Just say, "Hey, I have these weird dots on me. What do you think it is? I just noticed them last night."
Then she (should) know what it is and tell you and advice you to have your mom take you to the doctor. If she doesn't say it is petechiae then say, "Could it be that petechiae? A friend said it could be that. What is that?"
Act like you have no clue but lead her in that direction. Then she should say to see a doctor and then tell your mom that or ask the nurse to send something home to her.
