ok, one more question - about Garden of Eden
cameragirl21 wrote: first off, thanks to everyone who answered, you really made me feel better about my decision to name my new business G of E. some of you are ok with the apple, and many are not. here is my q, would a pic like this offend you or do you think it would be offensive if used on my biz website in context with G of E?
btw, just so you all know, this was a pic someone hired me to take of their baby and it's NOT meant to be a G of E image at all, but rather that the baby is the apple of their eye. but now that i have the pic and they signed a release form and have told me they're very eager for me to publish pics of their baby, i'm tempted to use it in conjunction with G of E in the infants' section of the business. what do you think? also, one more q--would you assume with a name like G of E that this is a religious biz? because it's not going to be at all. and is this a title that even non religious people can appreciate just for the beauty of the garden, which btw is how i see it. thanks again, guys, i really feel fortunate that i can come to a place like this with questions/issues and get sincere opinions from such a diverse group of people.
mom2my2cuties replied: Well first off, that is a great picture I could definately see what the parents were trying to portray. And it makes me just want to kiss on that babies cheeks. She is beautiful.
This is just my personal opinion, and please take it as such, it's not a dig at you or your idea...Do people (customers) REALLY think about logos and images in a business in depth??? I mean I don't really give it a second thought past that is a great logo or that could have really been done differently and look a lot better (Ok so usually along those lines the though is - That sucks)
Anyway - I think whatever you choose, your buisness will be fine. I think people aren't as "overly sensative" to topics as it may seem. You might have a few ACLU whacks that get bent out of shape over everything But most are just normal folk who only take it personally when it is personal.
I think people will more likely respond to YOU and YOUR BUSINESS over what they may or may not think of your name, logo etc Good luck with all of this!
luvbug00 replied: I think anything can be turned into somthing offencive really. so I can see that as an ADORABLE baby in a basket of apples or in a negitive religous tone. honestly we have a garden of eden company arround here ( not quite sure what they do... landscaping i think..) anyway do what you want and your costomers will give you feed back if there is any to give.
kristy-n-chad replied: I would not be offended at all by that picture. And I would not assume anything called Garden of Eden is religious.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: This is what I was saying in my other post. I just normally don't give it that much thought. I would definitely be drawn to the name and the fact that you take awesome photographs. You are VERY talented.
I love love love that picture. However, a six year old girl holding out an apple wouldn't seem so innocent to me for some reason. I don't know why.
Crystalina replied: That's a nice picture Jennifer. Could you send me your website addy? You gave it to me once but I can't find it. I would love to see the rest of your photos.
grapfruit replied: oOo! Me too! I love photographs, my favorite form of art!
As for your question, I am impressed, but not surprised, that you are putting this much thought and caring into just the name and logo. You strike me as a very passionate and driven person, but super caring at the same time. I can see your heart and soul in all your pictures, and I'm sure it cares over to all aspects of your life. Proof positive your charity work. I agree that sometimes companies seem to not spend the time and/or money to come up w/something that PoPs! Afterall, that's the face of your business.
I also agree that G of E doesn't first strike me as religious. It could mean a lot of things. And that picture is both innocent and beautiful. Probably more innocent then a young girl holding an apple...
Boo&BugsMom replied: I personally would not be offended. I think it's a cute picture.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: What about, instead of a 6 year old holding an apple, you get a toddler girl, maybe with some angel wings and a white dress, sitting on the ground, with a couple apples around her, biting into an apple like it's the best tasting thing in the world?
Would that seem less offensive?
And that picture is just adorable!! And - ps - if I was to think offensively, I'd say you were trying to mock the "moses in a basket" thing. Which I know you're not. But some people take it too far sometimes...ya know? Everything can be taken wrongly.
CantWait replied: I love the picture, and so I don't contradict myself...in the first post I was leary about using apples, but after seeing this picture, I think it's absolutely gorgeous and wouldn't have any reservations or take any offense to it at all. What a little cutie.
Kaitlin'smom replied: G of E does not strike me at all as being religious. TBH I dont like the picture.
PrairieMom replied: I love the pic, it is very sweet, and I wish I could have one like it of Ally, however, as a pic representing your business, I'm not sure. I think I would try the same thing, only with a baby wearing a diaper. I know you can't see anything... but I think you can get the same idea across with a diaper, and it wouldn't take away from the picture.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: For some reason I don't think of a Religious business when I hear the name...odd but it makes me think more that it would NOT be a religious business That baby is adorable but I am not fond of the pic either...
boyohboyohboy replied: I dont have a problem with the apple concept at all. especially used in the way you do. i think that the name does not bring to mind immediate religious notions, nor does the apple bring to mind sinful ones, I wonder if you had just posted earlier today a pic of this baby and said you wanted to name the site G and E if anyone would have thrown religion into the pic at all.
I think your pics are wonderful and your work will speak louder then any logo.
