obese children - infants eating habits

smoochies2u wrote: I'm not a parent, I just want other peoples opinions... is it healthy if your 3 month old infant is wearing 12-18 mo clothes and eating 16oz of formula with cereal in order to fall asleep at night?

~~*Missi*~~ replied: 16oz of formula plus cereal at ONE SITTING???

Nina J replied: I don't think the 16oz of formula and cereal sounds healthy. My daughter is 2, and she likes to have 8oz of warm milk before bed. She hardly ever drinks it all. Thats alot of formula for a 3 month old baby, twice as much drink as my 2 year old has. Is the baby your talking about just a big baby, or overly chubby for a 3 month old?

In my opinion, it's not healthy for such a young baby to be drinking so much formula at one time, especially just to fall asleep.

1lilpeanut2love replied: I don't believe that!! That is so OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!

CAMSMOM1 replied: My son has a problem with eating. He never gets full, and will over-eat if I don't stop him....

With that said, it is our job as a parent, to monitor our children's intake, and make healthy choices for them..since they are unable to do that for themselves. It sounds like this Mom, is doing this out of habit, thinking her daughter will only fall sleep if she is completly full. And IMO, that is way to much to feed an infant, and the size of clothes she is in...is proof of that.

My son has always been big since he was born. He has been in the 100 % for his height and weight, therefore, he has always worn bigger clothing sizes. But, he was breastfeed for 6 months, and never ate that much.

I think this mother you are talking about needs to talk to her doctor. And she needs to talk to a nutrienist about what an infant should be eating. I'm surprised her doctor hasn't said anything about this. All she is doing is stretching her daughters stomach, and therefore..she will need more and more food to fill her.

redchief replied: No.

smoochies2u replied: this mom is so proud of her big babies.... its sick if you ask me... she is obese and so are both of her children, but she thinks it normal... she had to have a csec 3 weeks early cuz this baby was so big and at 3 weeks early the child weighed so much that it had to spend the first 3 days in NICU cuz it couldnt breath... i am not kidding about the 16oz... or the cereal... i can show you proof but that would be dragging out some very old drama... i just posted this for some feedback cuz i dont have kids, and didnt think that was normal but wanted to make sure...thank you all for your input!

~~*Missi*~~ replied: can i just say my 17month old doesn't even drink that much milk in a DAY! Sabrina has always been a picky eater but thats too much for a 3m old in one sitting. Thats too much for ANY kid in one sitting! I mean yeah If i at 26 sat down and drank 16oz plus a bowl of cereal ok but a kid much less a infant umm NO.

you have the right to be concerned and should figure how to get those kids assistance in the long run she is only hurting them.

CosmetologyMommy replied: My son is wearing 18 months and he is 6 months but he does not eat 16 oz he eats 8 oz. He is a big boy. He is long too so it sort of evens out.

ammommy replied:
How big was the child to begin with? If she gave birth to a toddler wink.gif , then I could see being in that size at 3 months. Also, the child being in NICU probably had more to do with being 3 weeks early than being big. My friend's children were also born 3 weeks early and spent a few days in the NICU.
That does seem like an excessive amount of formula, but is it at every feeding? I'm sure the ped will chime in if there is a problem, but unfortunately I don't think that there is anything that you can do to help her see the light. Especially since you mentioned old drama.

smoochies2u replied: we were good friends during the birth, the baby was only around 10 lbs, not quite i dont think, and three weeks early, the NICU stay was only because she was breathing too rapidly because she was under so much stress from the mothers poor diet and being so big. i feel really bad for the children in all these situations, i understand there is nothing i can do, and what the docs say, they take as a grain of salt, they are just so proud... i just wanted to compare and clarify my thoughts. and yes 16oz is a norm... more even sometimes during the day.

Kaitlin'smom replied: WellI was 3 weeks early by there dates and my daghter did not spend any time in the NICU, however I do think there dates were a bit off. Anyway 16oz in one sitting for a 3 month old it ALOT, I mean there stomach is only supposed to be as big as there fist. Sounds like she ls leading the child down the path of obesity just like herself. Very sad.

jcc64 replied: Well, if the child was born at 10lbs, it's not surprising that she's wearing 12month clothing, but the amount of formula at one sitting is excessive, regardless of how large the child is. And I always thought solids, including cereal, were not to be introduced until the baby had the motor control to deal with it. 3 months seems way too young, imo.

smoochies2u replied: here it is... im sorry i was 2 pounds off LOL

Dr. said she was the 2nd biggest that he had ever delivered in his career! She was born 11 pounds 9.8 ounces and was 21 inches long

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
OMG! Yes, I think that is unhealthy, not so much the size of clothes the baby is wearing, but definitely the formula and cereal. IMO, that baby shouldn't even be having cereal yet.
