nipple holes???? - need help!!!!!!!!!!!!&

Jamie wrote: ok i am watching jade for the fist time alone, and as you know, she breast feed.....the nipples we have have small holes, and since she is use to getting a big amount at once, is the any suggestions on hhow i can get her more? maybe making the holes on the nipple bigger?! but what is the best way to do that????

TIA

MommyToAshley replied: Hi Jamie!
I take it that Kimberely has left for work?
Did you by any chance buy different kinds of nipples? Maybe one of the other ones has a faster flow. I know Ashley liked the "Medium" which was actually for older babies. I don't know if it is safe to use something to make the hole a little larger or not. I've never done that.

Sorry I am not much help!

MommyToAshley replied: Oh, forgot to add some hugs and good luck! How's it going?

Jamie replied: no, we just got the one kind...........its going ok , shes not really crying much, just chillin with me so far, but she starting to get fussy and cranky!!!.......thanks for asking

Jamie replied: going to try to feed her now though.

paradisemommy replied: i would think if you REALLY needed to make the hole bigger, maybe you could use a needle to poke another hole in close to the other one??...gosh..don't think i'm much help either...we never had to make the hole bigger...

did the feeding go ok?

CantWait replied: you've probably fed her by now. hope everything went well. Just in case for next time, you can use a pin to poke a hole through it, but make sure you burn the end with a lighter first to sterilize it.

Jamie replied: thank you all for your help.......the feeding went well! kim came home early so didnt really have to worry. thanks again guys

A&A'smommy replied: hey glad to hear all went well!!! Also i read somewhere where you are not suppose to do that...just thought i would let you know.

jem0622 replied: You didn't mention what kind of bottle system they use. Gabe (14 mos) was taking the avent nipples with 2 holes in no time b/c he wanted the faster flow. He never really cared for the 4 hole nipples though.

BF babies definitely prefer a faster flow though...but you have to play with different ones to determine what works for them so they aren't choking.

amynicole21 replied: I've always heard that you should use slow flow if you are breastfeeding... it avoids nipple confusion or bfeeding refusal since babies get milk more easily & quickly through a bottle with fast flow. huh.gif

jem0622 replied:
I guess Gabe was an impatient eater. LOL. Give me food now! He is still impatient to this day. If you are trying to spoon/fork food off of a plate to feed him he will put his mouth up to the plate and say 'ah ah' and grunt and fuss if you are prompt enough! rolling_smile.gif

I am down to nursing twice a day and if he doesn't get letdown soon enough he gets impatient and walks away. wacko.gif

kimberley replied: thanks all for your input. we were using the Nuk nipple and she didn't seem to like it before. putting the milk on the end and keeping the shirt i took off before i left made the night a little easier for Jamie i think.

jade has always been a bit of a lazy latcher so i figure she might prefer a faster flow nipple because my letdown is fast and furious rolling_smile.gif they want me to work again on boxing day so i think i will try the 6-12 mo nipple and maybe a whole different bottle system (we have gerber ones we got as a gift). i have always EBF so i never really bought any bottles thinking i wouldn't need them blush.gif any suggestions on bottles/ nipples? i have no intention of weaning for at least another 9 mos and they will probably only call me in a few times a month, so i don't want to use anything that will make her want the bottle instead of me. unsure.gif

tia,

Kaitlin'smom replied: well it took the sitter months to find one Kaitlin liked actually she gave up after a month of tring, so I just went over more often, I know no help, but she did give it one more go a few months ago and she took the playtex nurser! Woo Hoo that made it so much esier and I worried less about her starving!
I had tried every nippel and bottle even bougth one shaped like the breast hoping she would take it. I do have to say the biggest part was me not being there and me not trying at all with any bottle. Good luck, it seems Jamie has a good handle on it!
