newborn pics - who took them?

Schnoogly wrote: Do you have one of those newborn pics like can'twait? Did they take it at the hospital for you? I don't have one of these and I'm wondering if it is because Iain was in the NICU...does anyone else not have one? bawling.gif Was I supposed to ask for one?

I have pics we took of him at birth and in the NICU but not those newborn ones where they are looking up at the camera.

I've always wondered this.

~CrazieMama~ replied: The hospital takes the pics. But at the hospital I had my daughter at, they did not even ask me. I got the pic of my son like that. But he was born at a different hospital. The hospital is supposed to ask you.

dolfinrse replied: When Zachary was born, he was in the NICU too and we had to ask about the pics, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten them. No one knew anything about them until we asked.

mckayleesmom replied: With mine they gave me a packet with a picture information flier and at the top there were two sections to tare off with a code number and you give one of them to the nurse if you wanted your little ones picture taken. In the packet it said you could get the picture taken and not worry about buying them right away cause you have up to 2 years before they take them out of their files...Well we decided to take the picture and you can look on the internet the next day, type in your code and see what they look like. When we took her down to the room, all it was was a digital camera. So when we looked her pics up on the internet, we just saved it and printed it with photo paper. So we don't really need to buy the photos at all and we can get as many as we want and any size we want. Plus she was asleep in the photo, its the one on my avitar. Plus its kind of nice not having to decide who gets what size pictures of her. We can just print more if we need them.

Not only that but the price for the DIGITAL picture they took was outrageous and we could have done it ourselves. All it was was a digital camera like we all use everyday. But I guess the jokes on them if they let you view it online once they download it, and you can just save it to a file and make your own pics...lol

MomToMany replied: All the boys had their pics done at the hospital where they were born. The nurse gave me this packet of info, and you just has to let the nurse know if you wanted them done. They turned out SO cute!

Hannah never got hers done, because the hopspital where I had her is just too small, so they don't do anything like that.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: wub.gif When I had Claudia the package was in her little bassinette changing thing! And we just choose a day before we were discharged and had them done! I'm sorry they didn't give you that option! sad.gif

booey2 replied: Hi, with Matthew they did ask at the hospital but we didn't get them done til about 6 weeks after he was born. We had gone in for his circ. and they did them then. He was 3 weeks early so the picks still look pretty new born. With Thomas they never even asked or provided any info on it.So we don't have them of him. Oh well.

Kaitlin'smom replied: the hosptial asked if we wnte them taken so we did have hers dont the day she and i left. I never orderd any. Cause since my sister works at the hospital she was born, about 30 min after she was born they found my digital camera and took really newborn pics of her. she was only 30-45 minutes old! So I was able to pass thoes out.

supermom replied: Actually, the hospital takes them (right before you go home) and they work with a photo company - I am sure they probably get a % of the profit - LOL - but I never could afford them with the first two, so we don't have them for the oldest two, but we did take lots and lots of pics. (Before the days of digital, so they are all on film in varying degrees of being put into albums at home - LOL) - let's see, the oldest is 18, maybe by the time he's 30 I'll get it done????

Mommieto2Girls replied: They also gave me a flyer and we picked out what package we wanted and they took the pictures the day we left.

KatieLeigh79 replied: oh boy yup.. we had johns done as well and when we left the hospital we had 119.00 in digital quality pictures, being i was still owie and couldn't really function or realize it i looked at everything when we were home a few weeks later and noticed all the picture tops have small tears in them, so not only does it look like we took the picture (we have cuter ones of him in the first day or two then they did, he was 2 days already when they took it) but they are all torn so when you give them to people they look at you funny. mad.gif

Schnoogly replied: OK I'm glad to know I'm not missing much...I didn't know they charged so much! There was no packet or anything, and we were discharged from a different hospital. They gave me their discharge packet and there were photo things in there but I didn't know I had to ask. The picture I sent out on our birth announcement was actually taken when he got home around 3-4 weeks old. I didn't want to send one out with all the tubes and stuff. He looked pretty scary in the hospital, especially the week he had all the tubes plus really yellow jaundice!

Like this one--it's my favorite though since this was the first time he opened his eyes for us at almost 2 weeks old.

KatieLeigh79 replied: Aww, he's a sweetie there! Even if you think it looks "scary" I see nothing wrong with that photo smile.gif If your curious to know how bad they look for that price JR's website is still up for 1 more week with the company that does it (a little "added feature" for how ungodly expensive they are!) But you can see its not that great a picture.

mckayleesmom replied: That pictures too cute...Don/t you just wonder what hes thinking in that pic? Anyways you probably didn't miss out on much with the hospital pic,,they aren't that great of quality these days and you probably do better on your own. Like I said,,they wanted way too much for a digital pic that I could have taken myself.

supermom replied: Nods, I agree - way overpriced, but if the hospital's involved, what did ya expect?? -LOL- and Anders pic, his face is all splotchy and stuff, the pics we took in the hospital and afterwards were MUCH better and there are several places here and on the net that you can get your digital pics printed out in a "package" deal and still come out ahead $$ wise......I don't know if we'll do this one's or not, guess we'll just have to wait and see how it goes and what the prices are.

MommyToAshley replied: Schnoogly and Katieleigh... those are cut pics. smile.gif Oh the memories!

They offered it to us at the hospital and they were taken the day after she was born. They took them at 5am the day we left. But, we had to order them without seeing a proof first and it was $85. Well, when they came in, it was obvious that they did not take much time getting her ready... her shirt was up around her ears (looked like she was wearing football pads) and they used a blanket with wrinkles in it. So, we sent them back and got our money back. (I did keep a digital version of it) We had better ones that we had taken ourselves.

I'll show you... you did not miss much.

MommyToAshley replied: Now, here is one we took ourselves the same day:

MommyToAshley replied: And another we took a day later (she's two days old), which we used on the birth announcement

Schnoogly replied: True, that picture isn't as scary. This is the one I had in mind, taken the morning after he was born.

Warning: very sick baby. Looking at him now, I can't believe he is the same baby.

Schnoogly replied: Oops helps if I include the attachment

Kaitlin'smom replied: here is the one the nurse and sis took of her just minutes old....

much cutier now dont ya think?

CantWait replied: They are all great pics......
and yes, the hospital pics are way over priced, although we paid double for Robbie's pics when he was born ohmy.gif

victoire2002 replied: The day after Aidan was born someone came to my hospital room and scheduled an appointment with me. A woman came in with a digital camera, she snapped the photos and then I was able to choose from a sheet of proofs sh printed off that day. My hospital also had a website where the pics were posted.

I did get some calls from a service that comes to your home right after birth to take photos. Did anyone else receive these? I didn't do it, but someone I know did and said it was very expensive.

Heather replied: We had the same hospital service. We also paid over 100 dollars. I probably won't do it again for my next child though. I will just take my own. At the hospital we delivered, they took three shots, and we had to remember what the previous ones looked like. We couldn't compare. We also had the home service come out it was very very expensive, we got the cheapest package but we also got the proofs. Here is a pics I took of Alison at 2 weeks old...I have to find the others I took for the first couple of days..THey are hidden in a CD in my memory box....sorry about hte quality, I had to do a print screen from my online album:
