natural way to get rid

Kaitlin'smom wrote: of congestion and cough.

any one have a good natural way to do this? I would rather not take meds if I dont have to.

coasterqueen replied: Honey and lemon juice works well. Mint tea works well. This is what I'm doing now for my congestion and cough. Nasal passage massage works well too. Other than that just ride it out. We've all been sick in our house and I'm home today because I'm sick and the sitter is sick so the girls are with me.

luvmykids replied: They make a liquid Vicks that you can put in a vaporizer ( I know they aren't recommended for kids but I have one for myself laugh.gif ) Also a pot of boiling water with some eucalyptus oil in it....after the water boils, put your head over the pot and drape a towel over your head to make a tent. Breathe deep until the water stops steaming.

Hope you feel better soon hug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I have been doing tea with lemon and honey. I am not feeling bad just some congestion and the coughing fits is what gets me. Its more in my thraot/chest than in my nose.

hug.gif to you as well.

MommyToAshley replied: Humidifier or vaporizer. It may not get rid of it completely, but it should help.

hug.gif Hope you feel better.

momofone replied: This is the latest I heard is to put vicks on your feet then warm socks. It is suppose to help a cough. dunno.gif

Our Lil' Family replied: Definitely Vicks Vapor rub!!! I usually rub it in and under my nose instead of my chest, works better.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I dont really like vics, but I will keep it in mind if I really need something. I might try my humidifier tonight and see if that helps.

boyohboyohboy replied:
this is what we do, also the last time i was sick i used those shower tabs, and boy did they work get..

coasterqueen replied: Di, mine is in the same place and one thing I have to do is sleep sitting up. It's been helping me from having coughing fits at night. I hope you get feeling better soon. I hope we all do before Saturday. wacko.gif We just can't seem to conquer ours here. sad.gif

DVFlyer replied: Time and rest......

And drink plenty of fluids. drinkjuice.gif

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Rest!! Sorry your not feeling well!

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: There is an herbal tea called "Gypsy Coldcare". I can't remember the brand name...maybe Herbal Remedies? It helps. I think it has fennel or licorice root in it which helps soothe your throat and breakup congestion. Also, buy the Energy-C drinks from any health foodstore. They come in a box in small little packets. You just stir it in a glass of water and drink. It fizzes up just like Airborne and gives you like 1000 mg or so of vitamin C. You can also add this to tea. It always makes me feel better, naturally. hug.gif

momofone replied: pineapple juice drys up mucous . My daughter was sick yesterday and she had some yesterday shes much better today.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
I got pineapple juice at home, leftovers fromt the party, I am so downing sometonight. I will let you know if it helps. I might also get one of the vicks shower tabs a nice long warm shower sounds wonderful.

thanks everyone.

I really dont feel bad just have the occasional cough and feel some congestion, I think its on the med but I woudl not mind helping it along.

luvmykids replied:
I forgot about that stuff...its GREAT! I used to drink it around 2 or 3 in the afternoons when I was dragging and it really perked me up. thumb.gif thumb.gif The raspberry is really good in orange juice.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Hmm, I know pineapple aids in digestion because of the enzymes. But I've never heard it helping a cough. I personally would think the acidity would actually be painful to your throat. JMO. But I'm really curious now! Let us know how it works! wink.gif

MoonMama replied: I like th Emergen-C stuff too, I usually mix it with some juice. I have noticed it helps a LOT when I'm sick. I have also been drinking it daily lately and I have noticed a HUGE difference it my energy and how I feel overall. But I agree humidifier and I also usually add some mint oil, usually opens me up a LOT. hug.gif hug.gif hug.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
not sure I would have tried it with a sore throat, I dont have one so I tried it and I do feel better today with the congestion and I did not have nearly as many coughing fits as I did the night before. It does have a lot of Vitiman C, I will drink more today.
