PrairieMom wrote: I told you guys I was gonna do it! tongue.gif and it was sooo yummy. It was super duper easy. scary easy. unsure.gif

BTW, the recipe I posted yesterday was missing flour as an ingredient. Good thing I figured that one out before I got to far into the thing.

So, here it is, and Jennifer, this is how real people take pictures, with a crappy camera, on a dirty counter with bad lighting. rolling_smile.gif I was gonna take it pool side, but the nearest pool is a mile away, and behind chain link fence, and is empty right now. Plus its cold out, so... you know...

Ben took this one of me. I couldn't resist.

Mommy2Isabella replied: smile.gif DH made some last night as well. They were good, not as sweet at the ones you get at the fair though, I think they use more sugar!! Either way it was WONDERFUL!!

TheOaf66 replied: wow Tara pretty gutsy, taking pictures of your self eating junkfood ohmy.gif

CantWait replied: ohmy.gif sad.gif ohmy.gif sad.gif OMGOSH SOOOOOOOOOO yummy.....I so need to get over my fear of deep frying.

Did you use a deep fryer or just regular oil in a pot?

And my gosh girl, you're so tiny you could do a hundred of those things.

TheOaf66 replied: that reminds me, we have a fry daddy that we haven't had out forever...we should do that I am thinkin.

PrairieMom replied:
I just used about 1/2 a bottle of canola oil in the pot I make mac and cheese in. It wasn't bad at all.

CantWait replied:
Hmmmmmm this sounds good for our Sunday dinner. Maybe with some unfrozen frozen strawberries, whip cream, chocolate chips, and icecream.

Make your own funnel cake. Hmmmmmmmmm happy.gif

CantWait replied: Settled I'm doing it.

Tara, how many did that recipe yield?

PrairieMom replied:
It said 4. I think that's about what I will actually end up getting. Let me find the exact recipe I used.

PrairieMom replied: Funnel Cakes IV

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)

* 1 eggs
* 2/3 cup milk
* 1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon white sugar
* 1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/8 teaspoon salt
* 3/4 teaspoon baking powder

DIRECTIONS

1. In a medium bowl, mix salt, baking powder, and half of the flour. Set aside.
2. In a large bowl, cream eggs, sugar and milk. Add flour mixture and beat until smooth. Continue to add remaining flour, but use only enough to achieve desired consistency. Batter will be thin enough to run through a funnel.
3. In an eight inch skillet, heat the oil to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
4. Put your finger over the bottom opening of the funnel, and fill the funnel with a generous 1/2 cup of the batter. Hold the funnel close to the surface of the oil, and release the batter into the oil while making a circular motion. Fry until golden brown. Use tongs and wide spatula to turn the cake over carefully. Fry the second side one minute. Drain on paper towels, and sprinkle with sifted confectioners' sugar or cinnamon sugar.

luvmykids replied: Ok, I did pretty good holding off last night since I'd just had one. But after seeing the pics, I don't think I can resist much longer rolling_smile.gif

PrairieMom replied:
assimilate.gif come over to the dark side, whee we are all happy, and have bellies full of funnel cake! nuts.gif nuts.gif nuts.gif

PrairieMom replied: I just was out side for a while, and came back in, my house STILL smells like funnel cake.actually, it smells like Doughnuts. happy.gif yummy!

cameragirl21 replied: T, I can forgive you for the bad lighting but what's with the snowman stuff underneath? It's a horrible color combo, lol, j/k.
It looks crispy, though, and I prefer them soft and chewy.

PrairieMom replied:
thats a runner I have on my counter. I put it out in Jan. with a candle scape and some snowmen.

moped replied: Admit it Tara, you haven't taken down your christmas decorations yet...... rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

PrairieMom replied:
oh no, those were gone by the 27th .We decorate for jan with snow flakes and snow men because it drags on fooooorever.

lisar replied: I LOVE FUNNEL CAKE!!!!! And I am gona try that recipe.

Jason's Papa replied:
I'm no expert on funnel cake, but i'm pretty sure you're supposed to break pieces off and eat them, as opposed to picking up the entire mass of funnel cake like you did. laugh.gif

PrairieMom replied:
technically, I don't think there is a wrong way to eat one. rolling_smile.gif There is a nice way, and there is the "I am in my kitchen where no one can see me so I can be a pig " way. tongue.gif
Actually the pic was just for comedic effect to rub it in for y-all. I actually had to sit on the couch and share with the kids. rolleyes.gif

Danalana replied: laugh.gif I'm just wondering who all has a funnel laying around to use for funnel cakes tongue.gif

PrairieMom replied:
wavey.gif

Actually, I make all my own household cleaners, so I needed one for pouring stuff into bottles, and the only ones I could find were a set of 4 that were graduated like measuring cups, so I was set. thumb.gif

CantWait replied:
Not me, I'll be using small plastic baggies lol.

With my luck I'll melt it in the hot oil.

Question though Dana? Do you think MUSTARD would go good with funnel cake? tongue.gif

Danalana replied: I don't know....The funnel cake might be too sweet for mustard.
And Tara...let me rephrase...
"How many NORMAL people have a funnel laying around for funnel cakes?"

PrairieMom replied:
blush.gif fair enough. rolling_smile.gif

CantWait replied: I used to have funnels...though, thinking back, I seriously don't know why I had them. unsure.gif unsure.gif

cameragirl21 replied: I didn't use a funnel because I don't have one big enough, I used a measuring cup, the glass kind with the little spout. Worked perfect as I don't like them thin and crispy, I like them soft and chewy so that requires larger spirals of dough.... happy.gif

maestra replied: Do you guys think this is the same dough they use to make the deep fried snickers? We didn't get to go to the fair this year. ph34r.gif And I really like those. wub.gif

PrairieMom replied:
IDK. Never even seen one. So, is just a mini, battered and fried? how do they get the batter to stick to the chocolate?

Great dry.gif Now I have to google it. rolleyes.gif

PrairieMom replied: apparently it is. rolling_smile.gif
