moon sand
my2monkeyboys wrote: Anyone have it? Is it any good? Will is dieing for some for Christmas, but I don't want to get it if it's just nasty mess, ya know?
C&K*s Mommie replied: We had some and it was alright. I think I added too much water to the bowl, and it was mostly mush but it shaped decently once out of the water. I have heard good things about it, from other members on this board though.
Give it a try. You can always buy the little plastic bowls of it (what we had) and they are only a few dollars. So if it is not what you like you did not waste alot of money for it.
CantWait replied: I got some for the kids for Christmas because I'd heard rave reviews on the board.
Anthony wants Floam for Christmas though
TheOaf66 replied: we got some for Tanner because he was dying for it, he got floam last year and got bored with it pretty quickly as I thought he would so we will see what happens with the moon sand.
C&K*s Mommie replied: ahhh... Floam! Our dog probably remembers that well, as he was covered in it one night by the girls.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: We got it a few months back and Tay loved it. It is kinda messy but cleans up OK if you play with it on a matt or something-just don't mix colors because you can't unmix!
Tay LOVES floam but I saw a really gross story about it on the news...lets just say it made me so glad my child inherited my OCD for handwashing!
grapfruit replied: Ok, I have to ask....what gross story did you see?????
my2monkeyboys replied: Yeah, I'm interested in that story too...
A friend of ours bought some floam for his son, and the dad told me it was awful... sticky and all that. I think I'll try to moonsand. Will loves playdoh (which most of ours is getting old and dried out, and it's all brown now! LOL Thanks for the help!
holley79 replied: I've heard good things about the moon sand also. I want some for me.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Hey Abbie...do tell!!! Pretty please!?
punkeemunkee'smom replied: oh Sorry Ya'll I did not see you were asking for the story...
This woman called our local trouble shooters to find out why Walmart would not take her son's FLOAM back. She claimed there was something wrong with it.I.E it had turned a kinda brown color and the reporter said it gag a maggot stunk. Our news sent it back to the manufactuer and they returned results of the testing they had done on it-It had something like 47 million colonies of bacteria (Staph,Strep,Ecoli, and some fungus) growing on it They said it was at 'dangerous levels for the health and safety of a child playing with it' They also claimed that the bacteria had to have come from her kid's hands or something he was playing with the floam on...(the counter or table or toliet whatever) Anyway they consulted a microbioligist and he said that the child must not be a very stringent handwasher and was contaminating the toy-which will happen on any surface but that since FLOAM is a cool moist substance and then you put it into a container it is pretty much a petridish Of course I was still confused as to why the mom had let the kid keep playing with it AFTER it turned BROWN inbetween the little beads When they told her that it was basically fecal contamination she said 'OH well you know how hard it is to get kids to wash their hands....' UMMMM no THank God I don't but don't invite me over for dinner anytime soon,Kay? Anyway it kinda freaked me out a little because even thought Tay washes her hands all the time the term petridish just keeps coming to mind everytime I think of it as a stocking stuffer!
BTW~ They had said a child could have gotten a nasty skin infection from the bacteria on the FLOAM and she said 'Not Lately-about 6 weeks ago he got Staph' OMG!
Boo&BugsMom replied: OMG! What is wrong with that mother?!?! That's gross. Tanner's never turned brown. However, my child washes his hands very frequently...thank GOD! He tries to get away with not doing it, but I catch him and make him do it. I did notice it dried out quickly and had to be thrown out after about 3-4 weeks though. It was an ok toy for awhile, but it does stick to fabric and carpet very easily and it is hard to get out. It doesn't stain, but it's a pain to get it out of things.
We got Tanner some Moon Sand for his stocking. We'll see what it's all about. We only got a little container just in case he...or we...don't like it.
