Mommy2Isabella replied: I hate those things, they make the most god awful noise, we have them here, mainly in the summer time, some people call them "june bugs" I think!!
A&A'smommy replied: yeah and crunch bugs because of they shells
Calimama replied: Ew...
Anthony275 replied: it didn't have wings
PrairieMom replied: They shed their shells and then they have to dry out for a while. maybe thats why it didn't have wings? on a side note, did you know that Locusts are the only insect considered Kosher?
Crystalina replied: ......yet.
Anthony275 replied: whos going to eat bugs if they're not on fear factor?
lovemy2 replied: This is quite a wierd post I must say
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Great -- Now I'll be having nightmares tonight.
holley79 replied: Isn't that a locust of some sort? The ones that leave the little brown shells on the trees?
luvbug00 replied: he's sooo cute! Mya is petrified of those things
HuskerMom replied: I hate those bugs! They're gross and they leave their skins all over my trees. But I love the sound they make. It always reminds me of the end of summer and beginning of fall. I heard that six weeks after you hear the first one is supposed to be the first freeze of the year.
A&A'smommy replied: a cicada or locus or june bug lol
if you scroll down a little bit on the right hand side there is little video of it shedding its shell
Kentuckychick replied: Cicadas are so cool!! We used to collect their skins/shells/remaining pieces (whatever you want to call that bit they leave behind) when we were younger. They won't hurt you though
Now the snake that went slithering across my back porch the other day... can't say the same for him.
Crystalina replied: ewww.
I thought Junebugs were different. I'm thinking they are not the same. Which is basically what I just said in the first sentence so I have no idea why I'm repeating myself or explaining. it. I need sleep.
hoosier momma replied: I had a cicada flying around in my laundry room last night. Talk about creepy.
Around here, Junebugs are something completely different. They are a much small beetle type bug that are a brownish orange color and are about 1/4 of the size of cicadas.
ZandersMama replied: Ewwwwwww!
PrairieMom replied: Around here jUne bugs are really box elder bugs. They aren't the same thing as Locusts. I hope the thing about the first frost being 6 weeks after you hear them is wrong, We heard them 3 weeks ago around here.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: June bugs around here look like beans.

lesliesmom replied: Thanks so much for this post. It is very timely. I have been finding these "carcasses" on our playscape, trees, everywhere and I wasn't sure what it was that was shedding its skin. Saw a winged Cicada on our window screen yesterday and never put the two together....
Mommy2BAK replied:
moped replied: Gross
Boo&BugsMom replied: Actual Junebugs come out only in June (hence, the name) and only live a few days, or something like that. You are correct, June bugs are totally different.
I've never seen a Cicada before, but if that is what it is, it sure is UUUUUUUUUUUUUGLYYYYYYYYYY!

Anthony275 replied: do they normally look like they have mud on them? i like how it looks like its smiling
Boo&BugsMom replied: I think it's because of the dirt from the ground. They come up from the ground around the same time every so many years, or every year (I forgot how many, like every 13 or something for the periodical ones and every year for the annual ones). It's really weird.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Check this out. http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/cicadas/
