leaking diapers
PrairieMom wrote: THe boy is 27 pounds now and has been is size 5 diapers for forever, but recently at night his diaper had been leaking. It isn't getting really full, it just leaks out the top in the front. I thought this was a sign to move him up to size sixes, but those leak too! He is pretty skinney, and when we fasten them the tabs touch in the middle, so it's not like I am putting them on to loosely. Any bright ideas?
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Matt started having that problem a few months ago, IT only lasted for about a month (way to long when it comes to changing sheets) but we found pull ups held everything in. We use the feel and learn wcich say are for bigger kids but both Katy (skinnnnnnnyy little thing) and Matt (Giant) fit really well in them.
forgot to mention. I was pricing diapers at Sams yesterday and the Feel and learn are cheaper per diaper than the size 4 and 5 pampers
PrairieMom replied: Could have used that advice yesterday I just bought a whole box of 6's at sams, and it didn't even occur to me to look at pullups since i already have a ton of those at home. Thanks for the advice, I will try pull ups tonight!
ediep replied: I used to use Higgies overnights and a diaper doubler inside during the night. that was the only thing that worked for Jason
Now, he wears a pull up at night and most of the time he stays dry
PrairieMom replied: I give up. Whats a diaper doubler?
ediep replied: I bought them in the grocery store in the diaper section....its sort of like a maxi pad without the sticky back. You place it in the diaper and it adds absorption
PrairieMom replied: Ahhh... i have never even seen those before. I will have to keep my eyes open. I wonder if a regular maxi pad would work? lord knows I'm not using mine right now!
CAMSMOM1 replied: I enjoyed reading this post because I"m going through the same thing with Cameron. He is been wearing size 6 diapers forever, and he is leaking from the top & sides, usually only at night. I put him in Huggies Supreme. I like the idea of a diaper doubler, that sounds like something I could try before I used pull ups, those are harder to put on. I'm glad you wrote this post Tara, it gave me some good ideas.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Whenever I have a problem with leaks I switch brands. Brooke has always worn Pampers without a problem but Madison leaks right through them. She does great in the Parent's Choice brand from Walmart. Makes no sense to me.
PrairieMom replied: we went from pampers 5 to huggies 6, but I am a total diaper snob and hate using anything but pampers. It really baffles me, since his diaper doesn't feel full in the morning, its like the potty ust squirts right out the top or something. I may try the maxi pad trick if The Boy will let me. Who knows where I will find that thing stuck in the morning!
My3LilMonkeys replied: I don't know if an actual maxi pad would work.....The backing would stop it from going through to the diaper, KWIM? Or is there something I am missing?
PrairieMom replied: I figured I would place the sticky side twards the outside of the diaper, so the fabric-y side was on his skin. i see it working in my head... am I missing something? diaper doublers are just like maxipads only not sticky right?
My3LilMonkeys replied: I kinda pictured the doublers as allowing the liquid to pass right through so both the diapers and the doubler get soaked - I picture the sticky side of the maxi pad as kinda a barrier that would only allow the pad to get soaked and stop the liquid from going into the diaper. I've never tried it though, so maybe I'm just nuts.
PrairieMom replied: well, I'll try it tonight, and we'll see how it goes, then we will know! nothing like experimenting on your children right?
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'll be waiting tomorrow to see how it goes! I'm very curious now!
MamaMooBoo replied: I use the overnights on Reis as well. He just pees right through regular diapers and when they get too wet....he strips down and takes them off!!
ediep replied: oh, a maxi might not work....maybe a serenity pad would be better
PrairieMom replied: Maxi I have, serenity, I do not! If it works, great, if it doesn't, the worst thing I will have is another wet bed! I'm worried he will pee to much for a pull up to hold. We'll know in the morning!
PrairieMom replied: Well, the verdict is in, We had dry jammies this morning! The maxipad thing seemed to work! I stuck it along the top of the diaper, and it seems to have helped keep the potty from leaking out the top. All I know is, I don't have to wash his sheets today!
ediep replied: yay!! Glad it worked for youery
Look for the diaper doublers at the grocery store next time you go shopping
My3LilMonkeys replied: Glad to hear that it worked!
CAMSMOM1 replied: You guys are HILARIOUS! I enjoyed reading your posts! "How do you put the pad on his diaper? Am I missing something! No, you stick the pad on here, no there! You guys are crazy!
Glad to hear the pad worked! I'm going to have to try that! I hate washing his sheets too, and I'm sure the Cam Man would appreciate staying dry!

PrairieMom replied: I stuck it along the waist band so when the diaper is on, the pad lays across his belly. I'll see if I can get a picture of it. last night was the ultimate test, he has a huge glass of milk and water before bed! He's still asleep now, but I am anxious to see if it worked again. y-all should see his diaper drawer. it is full. I have size 5's, 6's, pull ups, and now maxi pads in there!
Maddy'sMom replied: In 16 mos, we have NEVER had a single diaper leak...no wet sheets once. No joke! We have used Luvs since Madison was born, aside from the Pampers Swaddlers when she was a newborn.
The Luvs can hold SO MUCH, it baffles me.
Just my experience!
PrairieMom replied: we have, but just when it was time to move up to a different size. this time going up a size isn't helping. I wish we could just get him potty trained and be done with it, but we are nowhere near ready for night time training yet.
luvmykids replied: Just for those of you who may not know ... The "better name" brand pull ups have velcro on the sides so you can still use them like a diaper without having to take clothes off to change them. (Unlike undies)
MomToJade&Jordan replied: We use Luvs too. I have never had a leak with either girls.
fashionmumofboys replied: What brand are you currently using?
I used Pampers and they were great. We hardly got any leaks.
GL!
PrairieMom replied: we have used pampers and had really good luck with them so far, but i couldnt find them in a size 6, so this time we have huggies. I don't really understand what the problem is, since the diapers aren't gettitng over saturated and then leaking, the diapers are almost dry, but his jammies and bed are wet. its like all the potty is just squirting out the top or something! It totally baffles my mind!
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I think the biggest thing for Matt is making sure he's pointed down when I put his night diaper on. during the day it's not a big deal which way he's pointed but at night if he's not correctly positioned he does just seem to pee out the top. I think this is the one area where girls really are easier I don't think Katy ever leaked
