just wondering

Jamielou wrote: I was at home on my lunch break today and i was watching the discovery channel and it was about amazing deliveries and there was one about a college girl who had a baby in her dorm room but she didnt even know she was pregnant. I dont know about anybody else but i think i would know i mean you feel the baby move and those hurt sometimes well mine did anyway.

I was just curious to know if anyone knows someone this happened to or heard of this before. wink.gif

luvbug00 replied: I've heard this happen alot! I even asked my doctor and she said that it is a result of denial.( amonst other things) She said the body can produce hormones like when people have thought they were pregnant and had the symptoms and everything but they were not. dry.gif I had a friend who did that and her stomach expanded and she produced milk and everything. Poor girl did the baby survive?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: My hairdresser's sister had this happen to her. She was 17 when she had her baby and I guess didn't really know until she was going into labor I think. I had a hard time believing her when she told me, but I didn't want to be mean and say "OMG, you're only kidding right?" I don't understand how someone wouldn't figure out they didn't get their period, or didn't gain any weight, or didn't have SOME symptoms, or didn't feel the baby!!!!!! I lost my period one year without being PG, but I would have noticed a bigger stomach! All I can say is, thank god the baby is doing fine. I watched everything I put into my body while I was PG, so I can't imagine someone not knowing and not taking good care of themself.

I tried asking how her sister didn't know, but the hairdresser is not that sharp. She kinda shrugged her shoulder and said "I don't know". Sorry to be critical, but you have to be pretty darn stupid IMO.

TANNER'S MOM replied: I knew someone who claimed this..

She was a big girl and be honest there wasnt' alot of change in her body..

I think I didnt know...really means I didnt want my parents to know.. or somethign really strange is going on.

Have you seen the ER episode where the Asian woman is deliverying a baby in the ER..and as it is coming out she keeps saying I am not pregnant while pushing. And then when it is born they lay it on her and she who's baby?? THe one that is bloody and still attached to you??? Umm I don't know?/

Any way she had severe denail do to her family issues.??? gotta be something like that!

Kaitlin'smom replied:
sad.gif well I did not know unitl I was about 5 months along, and sure now you wonder how? Well I had my period for the first 4 mohtns it was not till I missed month 5 that I wondered if I was PG, so I took a test and it came up positive and when I went to OB and they did ultra sounds they told me how far along I was I was in utter shock and asked HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? I was told it is more commen than people know, there are alot of wonem who dont know due to have there AF, during the PG usually its just the first few months but some have it the entire PG. Also by that point I had only gained 5lbs, so for me I just figured cause I went off my diet.

Questions?

Jamielou replied:
Yes the baby made it and she was perfectly healthy and weighed 6lb12oz and had no complications at all. But it was strange because if it were me i wouldnt have hid it i would have been screaming and calling 911 but she called a friend after she had the baby and she came over to take her to the hospital and when they walked out of the dorm rooms she hid the baby with a towel and told people who asked that she had hurt her arm.. dunno.gif

Jamielou replied:
OMG...That is severe denial. I guess maybe she told herself she had a bad case of gas rolling_smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
did she keep it or give it up for adoption?

Jamielou replied:
yeah i can see that my aunt had her period the whole nine months with both of her kids that would be awful because that is one thing i think most women look forward to during pregnancy is not haveing to deal with that on top of all the symptoms... and they dont really move a whole lot in the begining but i think as they gained weight and got huge and moveing around a lot i hope i would notice but i guess you never know... tongue.gif

JAYMESMOM replied: I think a lot of people that go up to their due date is due to denial. Our mind is very tricky and can make us believe almost anything. Sometimes the worst liar to listen to is ourselves.

For the first 4-5 months I can see women who are busy and other things going on not knowing. This happened to at 3 women I knew. They attributed different signs to other things going on. But once you pass that 5 month mark and you have a circus in your stomach. You know.

Jamielou replied:
She kept her it showed them and i think she was about 3. She called her her little miracle girl so i think everything worked out for the best...

Kaitlin'smom replied:
some women dont gain weight, or dont get bellies, its very weird I know after I hit 6 months, the belly poped out so that part of not looking PG is very weird to me, I knew a women who you would have never know she was PG, until she turned to the side and then her belly was VERY small actually it looked like she had a gut not a baby inside, it was a bit wierd but it can happen

mckayleesmom replied: I didn't find out I was preggers with Russell till I was 4 months blink.gif . I had a leap procedure a couple months before and had a preggo test done the day before...never got the results...but I had to be pregnant cause thats the only way it adds up. They were only suppose to do the procedure if It was negative and I think they forgot to check the results. I bled for months so I never noticed Aunt Flo and Uncle Cramps missing. It probably would have been longer if I hadn't gotten nauseous after an airplane ride. Thats when it dawned on me that I might be. But its a good thing I took that flight cause it was just from the plane...I had the same thing a couple weeks ago after a plane ride...nausea..and IM NOT PREGGERS>>so don't ask. Anyways..I think its normal for some woman to not feel it for a while.

mom21kid2dogs replied: wavey.gif I know someone!! An adoptive parent I worked with found out she was pregnant at 7.5 months gestation. She was told in her youth that she could never get pregnant due to a crushing pelvic injury. She'd been having alot of pelvic and stomach "trouble" so she kept getting more & more tests. Finally, her doc orderd an ultrasound. The ultrasonographer said "Well, it looks like your baby is doing fine!" and she said "Huh?" He said "Your baby is fine~no problems there. You wanna see her?" He turn the screen and she fainted! She went on to have a very healthy little girl. rolling_smile.gif

mckayleesmom replied: wow thats neat.......My first ultra sound with Russell was amazing too...I went there expecting to see a little bean on the screen...and no....it was a big baby...I couldn't believe I was that far along.

Jamielou replied:
I think i would faint too.. rolling_smile.gif

Jamielou replied:
I didnt really show until i hit around 5.5 or 6 months well i could tell but to others i just looked pudgy... but i am tall 5'9" and medium frame. But at 7 months i looked huge and got bigger and bigger... tongue.gif

Jamielou replied:
Its amazing how much they look like little people in just 16 weeks of growing...

amymom replied: I knew someone who never looked pregnant. She knew she was, and she was a small woman, not skinny skinny but you would call her good wgt. She never got a pot belly but she knew the whole time she was pg. And they did lots of u/s to be sure of baby size and she gave birth to a 6 1/2 lb baby.

My brother told me about a woman he knew who was married for years, was TTC and never did, she was very overweight, obese, and she went on a diet, about 11 mos after her diet began and she lost about 50 of her 150 lb target she had sever stomach cramps and her husband took her to the ER and she gave birth there. She and her hubby had no idea. She attributed the somersalts in her stomach to the diet and her AF were sporadic at best before this year of her life so when they disappeared she didn't notice. AND she was told she would need to loose 200 lbs before she could become pg. I met her and her baby (she was a big woman). She and her hubby were ecstatic and not the type to deny the pregnancy, since they wanted it so much. They were very unprepared.

So I guess it does happen.

paradisemommy replied: i'm addicted to watching the discovery health channel and on one of the emergency room episodes it showed a woman who came in and was complaining of stomach pains - well about as soon as they could get her on a bed and wheel her to a room, she was pushing and out came the baby - she had NO idea - said she had the depo shot and they timed it to right when she got the shot was when she conceived..she also was a pretty large woman so you couldn't really tell she was pg - just kinda big..bizarre..

Jamielou replied: I guess it does happen a lot more than i thought... tongue.gif

coasterqueen replied: A guy my Dh works with, it happened to him and his wife. They were 6 months pg before they found out! ohmy.gif They had tried for years to have a baby with no avail. Suddenly she was sick for several months and she didn't understand why. She didn't gain any weight and never really had a period so she was clueless. They were very shocked that's for sure! I think the couple were in their late 30's early 40's.

Jamielou replied:
Was the baby ok ?

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Sorry if I offended anyone with my remark. I'm only judging from MY experience being PG. I am very small framed and didn't show until about 5.5 mos, but after that I was ALL belly. So it was pretty obvious. Plus, since I was TTC, I was constantly taking HPTs and looking for every little symptom. I just can't imagine not knowing, but I suppose anything is possible.

Please don't get me wrong, even if you don't know right away, every child is a blessing. It was mean of me to say that someone is stupid by not knowing. I only worry about both the mother and baby's health. I like to drink, so I would have probably gone on drinking if I didn't know I was PG. Scary.

Thank god all the stories above seem to have ended on a happy note! smile.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
I was 12 weeks along before I knew. We'd tried to concieve for 17 years to no avail and had given up long ago. I didn't gain any weight but lost my waist. I figured I had ovarian cancer. rolleyes.gif Olivia was a much better alternative!!

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
I have a friend who didn't find out she was pg until she was 6 months along - she had gotten her tubes tied so she didn't think it was a possibility. When her tummy started to get big she went to the dr. thinking maybe she had a tumor because her mom had died of stomach cancer.

kel replied: well im stupid then! i didnt know till i was 17 weeks..i didnt feel any movement and i got my period (which has never been heavy) i am very anaemic and was on the depro provera shot (my first time)so i figured me feeling a little "off" was just normal..when i was due to go for my second depro shot i thought id wait a month or two ( i felt odd not getting my period..it kinda fizzled out after a few months..) and when my period didnt come at the end of the month i went to my gynae who made me do a preg test ...she then did a scan and voila!
a perfectly formed 17 week old baby was living in my tum..i didnt show at all till i was 7 months preg. btw..

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Okay, you're not stupid. Again, I hope no one took offense to what I said. I thought I had apologized. I just thought the post was about someone not knowing all the way UP UNTIL giving birth, not only a few (or even 7) months along. I TOO, didn't know right away. And I was only commenting on my hairdresser's sister who really didn't know until she was going into labor.

I'm very happy for everyone who has had healthy pregnancies without knowing they were PG.
