is this supposed to happen?

beckamouse wrote: okay. afew weeks ago i started spotting a little bit and as many of you know, this is my first baby so it was kind of scary. (IE I'd rather be locked in a room with Fred Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Leatherface then do that again) there was no pain, it was just me going to the bathroom, glancing at my underwear and having a panic attack. my doctor told me that it was normal in first-time pregnancies. Its just the uterus stretching and letting go of a little extra blood its stored. The color was vivid red and lasted all of a half hour, all of which i spent on my left side in bed (hugging my favorite teddy bear i'm such a wuss sometimes :-) )

it happened again and i ask, is this normal?

like i said, no pain, vivid red, lasting less than an hour only this time was less than 10 minutes.

its just kinda scary

kimberley replied: i never experienced this myself, but it is probably just what the dr said that the uterus is stretching. if you really feel something might be wrong, call your OB and get checked. better to be safe than sorry and you will probably get an u/s and see your little bean wub.gif . keep us posted. grouphug.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I would bleed accasionally if it was around the normal time I would have started my period...Also..one time my doctor told me I could take an excedrin to help me sleep and that made me bleed also tylonol accasionally. Are you taking any kind of over the counter headache or fever reducing meds?...They will sometimes make you spot.

beckamouse replied: i try to avoid pain killers of any kind they have never worked well with me.

hehe

cant wait to see how i react to an epidural

but, yeah....not on anything that could possibly thin blood or what have you
i do not want to risk problems even though the doctor said its okay

Elle replied: It's normal at the beginning of the pregnancy, it doesn't happen to everyone, but it's nothing to freak out about! It's just that the embryo is implantating in the uterus wall, that's what causes the spotting. Don't panic, I spotted quite a bit when I got pregnant the first time, and nothing happened, my baby was alright. So don't you worry! thumb.gif

Edited to add: I've been told that having one of those Aspirines for kids per day helps the embryo to implantate well. A friend of mine who had a high abortion risk did this and it worked for her. Plus, it's no harm for the baby. wink.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I didn't have any of that while i was pg! BUT i have heard of it happeneing if your really worried call your doctor again that is what he is their for! And you are NOT a wuss that would have scared me too. But I have heard of LOTS of people that spot while they are pg. I hope it stops for you because this is suppose to be period free for nine months lol.

edited to say: epidurals are the best things in the world LOL I LOVED mine!

Elle replied:
I *have* to agree! rolling_smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
lol!!!! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

beckamouse replied: my DH was all against epidurals until i started laughing at him and asking him if he really enjoyed being a man because without pain relief of some kind during birth i guarantee i will take off what got me there in the first place. His response?

"Whatever you want my love. If it'll make you happy!"

i knew he'd see it my way *evil grin*

A&A'smommy replied:
LOLOL!! rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif

coasterqueen replied: I didn't have this, but sounds like it could be normal. You could call your doc if you are concerned just to be safe wink.gif

Elle replied:
Men! wacko.gif
Well, I must quote Rachel (from Friends) here: "No uterus, no opinion!" rolling_smile.gif

Mom2Boyz replied: The only spotting I had with my pg was when I was sick with an upper respritory infection, I guess all the coughing caused me to spot a little. But I've heard that it's not uncommon in early pg.
If you're worried though, don't hesitate to call your dr. that's what they're there for.

As far as the epidural thing goes, I would highly recommend one to anyone having a baby!!!!!!
I seriously don't think I could have done it without one. tongue.gif
How on earth did women do it before all this modern medicine came about? emlaugh.gif

beckamouse replied: i have my own variation of the friends quote. its gotten me in trouble with people but then i blame hormones (gets me out of everything. tee-hee!)

"You have a penis! What do you know? Shut up!"

the only way i'd listen to a guy giving baby and pregnancy advice is if 1: they had kids or 2: if they were an OB/GYN who's been in the practice for a while

other than that its the response above

or you're my friend chris who has 5 brothers and sisters with twin siblings on the way

A&A'smommy replied:
LOLOL thats FUNNY I LOVE that show! rolling_smile.gif

Kirstenmumof3 replied: I experienced this twice with my last pregnancy. The doctor didn't know why it was happening, I was sent for an ultrasound both times. Everything turned out to be just fine. I'm sure everything is okay, if you are concerned call your Doctor.

Lily replied: If your doc isn't concerned I'd just wait and see what happens. Spotting I've heard is normal. However, heavy bleeding is not. Just go with your instincts. I'll say a little prayer for you!
