is my teacher stupid or something?

Anthony275 wrote: my teacher asked if anybody was born via c-section today, i raised my hand along with 3 or 4 other people and my teacher was shocked at the amount of people that were. she said she didnt understand why babies are born that way. she thinks its something rare

im just surprised at how naive she is, she even has kids...

Teesa®© replied: Maybe not stupid, but definitely not well informed.

As you obviously know, I'm sure, babies are delivered by C-section for a number of reasons:
1. for the health of the mother
2. for the health of the baby
3. and, in my mother's daughters case, because her pelvis wasn't widening to be able to pass a baby. She's a big-boned girl, but her body wouldn't do it. She has 3 children and they all had to be delivered that way. It was a cause of great teasing by me since the most I ever weighed before being preggers was 110lbs and I never had ANY problem delivering my children rolling_smile.gif

I don't know what the actual statistics are for natural vs C-section deliveries, but they probably aren't too far apart.

Anthony275 replied: i know that but is it just not often anymore or something? like for 1 c-section theres 4 natural births or something like that

Crystalina replied: The girls I know IRL always get C-sections. To me it's rare to find a woman that has delivered all her kids natural. I think sometimes the doctors are in a rush to get it over with really. My sister felt pressured for a c-section. sleep.gif

luvbug00 replied: i've thought natural birth is more rare. I'm all for a medical nessisary c but for unnessisary well dry.gif

sparkys2boys replied:
I agree here to. It's not as uncommom as it used to be for doctors to suggest you have a section just to make things quicker.

MommyToAshley replied: I find that an odd question for your teacher to ask in school.

Anthony275 replied:
i know! it was about a quote in a book that said something about everybody being born from a woman, but i dont know where she got that question from

Mommy2BAK replied:
me too blink.gif what were you guys learning that was relevant to the way you were born?

BAC'sMom replied:
I guess I am rare then, all my children were delivered naturally.

Also agree very strange question for a teacher to ask students. huh.gif

Anthony275 replied:
shes really nosy, she was probably dying to ask that question. she couldnt see why i wasnt vaginally born rolleyes.gif yeah because every pregnancy is the same and all babies are the same size!!

ZandersMama replied: I've got one of each here tongue.gif She should really read the lesson plan.

Cece00 replied: C-Sections arent rare, but they arent the norm. The national c-section rate is about 29%. So 71% of children are still born via vaginal birth.

Teesa®© replied: My children were all born naturally. 8lbs 5 1/2oz, 8lbs 9oz and 8lbs 6oz. Not bad for a little grrl, eh? biggrin.gif

I figure if I ever do happen to get preggers again, I'm not even bothering with a hospital. If the pattern continues at 20 mins delivery, 15 mins and 5 mins, I'd never make it to a hospital anyway rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Crystalina replied:
Both mine were vaginal and I hope I can continue with that. I would feel robbed to carry a baby for nine months and then not deliver natural. sad.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Were you guys reading Julius Ceasar?.....We got asked that question when we read that...because it is said that Ceasar is who the word ceasarian is named after....Because they say he and his ancestors were born that way.....

Although now its debatable because they say that usually it would have only happened if the mother died during labor....but ceasars mom didn't die after the birth of her children.

Anthony275 replied: nope, it had to do with a quote that translated to everybody being born by women

gr33n3y3z replied:
I'm rare also bc all 4 of mine were born natural also

ZandersMama replied:
It left me with the feeling of being robbed. Still does a year and a half later. I'm guessing at this point it always will. And my scar is really bad compared to most wink.gif

youngmomofone replied: Ive had one, my mil had one (a month before mine laugh.gif ) and my sil had 2 c-sections. My sil and myself will always have to have c-sections, so a natural birth is unheard of in our family (even though mil had 8 other children natural). tongue.gif

:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: My older 2 were C-Section and the youngest was vaginal. I would pick vaginal over C-Section any day. I wish I would have been able to with the other 2.

Aaron was breech and was not dropping, Lily was only 14 months after Aaron and we (doc and I) thought it would be better if we just did section again and Kyla I finally got to do vaginal. It was awesome even though I lost a huge amt of blood and had to get a transfusion and stay in hosp for an extra 5 days. It was worth it. wub.gif

moped replied: C sections are common but certainly not more than natural............I never got the chance, but here I think it is only 12% are delivered via section
