ipod or mp3?

jakesmommy08 wrote: Whats the difference?? Tim wants one for when he goes walking so he would just be using it for music.

A&A'smommy replied: if he JUST wants the music then I would say mp3 player otherwise ipods are awesome and make sure you get an ottercase they are also awesome

bluebear replied: iPods are mp3 players.

I'd get him an iPod nano or whatever they're called now if you already have iTunes on your computer

mom21kid2dogs replied: Only difference I know of is the price and the name. You can download things to an MP3 the same as a Ipod. Olivia got a really nice, lightweight RCA MP3 player this summer at WalMart. It would be perfect for walking. You can also download audiobooks to it. It was $70.

luvmykids replied: I agree with Cheryl, the ipod is just a name. I had a nano and lost it so I got smart laugh.gif and replaced it with a Sony mp3 that was about half the price. It stores pictures, music and videos just like my nano did.

The biggest difference (at the most basic level) is the format. Ipods require music to be in a certain format (can't remember the name now, AAC?) that's basically an mp3 file converted to this format. In other words, for an ipod you have to store your music in itunes, convert it to the format if you're not buying it from itunes, etc....in other words, for someone who wants no fuss and the easiest route (and cheapest, since you can find free mp3 downloads) I'd go with an mp3 over an ipod.

jcc64 replied: We have Macs, always have, so ipods made the most sense for us. I believe in Apple: they stand behind their excellent products, have user-friendly, humane customer service, and business practices I support. For those reasons, if given a chance, I'll always go with an Apple product over their competitors.

kimberley replied: we got jacob a zune mp3. he loves it and it was way cheaper than ipod, it has expandable memory and you can change the battery. once an ipod battery dies, it cannot be replaced.
dh got me an itouch for my birthday and its a PITA. you need a credit card to buy games (we don't have them), needs wifi for email (don't have it) and i personally find the istore confusing and the sync annoying. since dh has all his stuff in itunes it keeps trying to put it on my itouch. too much hassle for that much money. i personally will never buy an "i" anything ever again.

jakesmommy08 replied: how much do songs cost through itunes? cuz we have tons of music on our computer just from cds we have, so could i just load the music we already have right? man im clueless when it comes to this stuff!

ZandersMama replied: I have a Zen, just a cheap mp3 from walmart. i love it. very user friendly, zavier uses it and is actually getting one for Christmas.

kimberley replied: itunes are usually 99cents per song and most albums are 9.99. you have to have itunes as your main mp3 source and it will ask you to add all the cd music you have on the computer.

MommyToAshley replied:
Rod would probably agree with you on the Mac and the Ipod. I don't even have an Ipod or MP3 player as I just listen to music over the computer speakers. But, I do know that both Rod and Ashley store their music on the Mac and their ipods ... and Rod on his iphone.

mom21kid2dogs replied:
Most MP3 players are plug & play format. You can easily download music you own onto your MP3 through the muscic player on PC.I believe a Mac has ITunes preloaded for downloading.

luvmykids replied:
Just to second this....I had tons of downloads before I had my nano and to putting them in itunes was easy enough but to actually put them on my ipod I had to reformat them. Unless they've changed the software now where it automatically converts them when you load them to itunes or can do it in bulk, it was a PITA growl.gif
