icicle lights on houses

boyohboyohboy wrote: can someone who has these on the outside of their house tell me how do they hang on the house?
we are thinking of doing the house in these lights this year, but its going to take some work, and I just wondered what holds them in place.

mckayleesmom replied: blush.gif I don't know...I love them but have never tried them...I would try a staple gun..

boyohboyohboy replied: we havent bought them yet, but our house has some really high eves, so before we invested in them, I wanted to see what I was setting dh up for.

mckayleesmom replied: I would just go look at them and open the box a little to see how they sit on the wire and what the directions reccomend.

PrairieMom replied:
DONT try a staple gun. The staples are metal and can go through the electrical chord.
They make special clips that are multi purpose, they can hang on gutters or flip them over and they will grip to shingles.

Kentuckychick replied: Gutter Clips

We don't use icicle lights for Christmas but we do for Halloween -- they hang exactly like regular lights -- a string of lights with the "icicle" hanging every 1/2 foot or so.

The gutter clips work really well.

gr33n3y3z replied: We always used a staple gun and never had any problems easy removal to

luvmykids replied: My neighbor uses the icicle lights, she uses the gutter clips. She put the clips on once and leaves them up, so now it's easy for her to put the lights up every year since the clips are already there.

My dad always used nails, he put one in every few inches and just draped the lights over them.

Crystalina replied: When we used the icicle lights we used the gutter clips. Very easy up and down but we no longer use those kind of lights d/t the fact that it bothers me when the wind blows and blows part of the lights up onto the roof. dry.gif Then you have to go out in the freezing weather and try and fix them or leave your house looking silly. I messed with them for 2 years before I decided never again. wacko.gif happy.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: Because we use them every year, Stephen put brad nails in the eaves so it's a permanent fix. We have used gutter clips and they worked fine as well. I'm with Crystal~they blow in that nice Ohio wind and you have to fix them lots. If it were me~I'd skip them and use straight strands but apparently Stephen is more stubborn than the lights! rolleyes.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
Ditto..we use it for regular lights and never had a problem as long as you make sure each sharp end of the staple is around the wire.

mckayleesmom replied: I have never heard of the gutter clips... rolleyes.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: we got them today and used the gutter clips and they are up!
they look so nice. I hope the wind doesnt tear them up! my dh said he isnt taking them down after christmas just wont turn them on..but I said that looks so tacky..
