i have a question about labor! - Its kinda important!
A&A'smommy wrote: How will you know your water breaks if your using the bathroom? And how soon do you HAVE to go to the hospital after?
MommyToAshley replied: If your water breaks, it will be a big gush of water, you will know the difference. If you just have a small leak, it will continue and not stop. My friend had a slow leak and thought she wet herself, but it continued all day so she went to be checked and her water was leaking.
HTH
Maddie&EthansMom replied: I agree! Sometimes it is a slow leak b/c the head is already in position. You need to go to the hospital as soon as your water breaks b/c once it is broken there is more chance of an infection and stress on the baby. Certainly something you don't want happening!
HTH!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: It will just GUSH out, trust me you will know! You need to get to the hospital ASAP when your water breaks. It doesn't always mean that labour is starting, but you need to get checked out!
chloe&tysmommy replied: I always wondered the same thing, and I was so scared it would happen in a public place somewhere lol that would be a little embarrasing.
My water didn't break, I just had major labor pains so when I went to the hospital (for the third time in 2 days, long story) they checked me and I was 4 cm already so the doctor broke my water to move things along quicker
Sorry I wasn't much help and I rambled on...opps
maestra replied: I had a very slow leak for days and didn't know it at the time. I thought I was leaking urine, as I did many times at the end of my pregnancy when Jaci would lean on and kick my bladder. But everything turned out just fine for us. I got antibiotics during labor just in case. If in doubt, just go get it checked out.
DansMom replied: I went to pee at 3 am, and when I laid back down I thought "huh? I'm still peeing?" I didn't have a big gush, but I did have constant leaking and called the hospital. They told me that if it was my water, I would need to deliver within 24 hours---there's a danger of infection. I had my first contraction at 3:20, about 20 minutes after my water breaking. But I was allowed to stay at home until about noon. They have a strip test they can do at the hospital, and if it's amniotic fluid it turns blue. Mine turned blue---I was so happy! I knew I'd have my baby within hours. Anyway, you will know---the fluid is just different than urine, and it will either gush or trickle continuously.
kit_kats_mom replied: Mine really "popped"! It woke me up from a dead sleep, sounded like the sound you make with your finger and your cheek in the Lollipop song, really loud. LOL I jumped out of bed and ran to the bathroom where it just gushed everywhere. I did manage to not get any on my carpet though. There's a neat freak for you.
ediep replied: MY water broke with tiny gushes with contractions.
I was in bed, I got up to pee, I had a slight boody discharge, (sorry, graphic) then the contractions started and with each one, there was a tiny gush of water. Later, when we went to the hospital, the rest of my water really "popped" while we were in the elevator on the way up to the maternity ward. It soaked my shorts! That was embarassing because Dh and I weren't the only ones in the elevator
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Oh it will be a gush. I managed to get up, go all the way to the bathroom, get back into bed, and then my water broke. Just remember though that some women just go into labor without their water breaking. I think I would have been pregnant a little longer if my water hadn't broke.
CantWait replied: well the doctors had to break my water for me both times, and when they did it was a huge gush, that trickled for a while after. It was very warm. FYI...just so you know, it probably won't break in public. I read somewhere that only a small percentage of women's water breaks in public. Odd. And definetly go to the hospital immediately.
Why do you think yours may have broken??? LOL only wishfull thinking eh
~CrazieMama~ replied: With Tyler, the doctor broke my water. With Brianna my water broke when I stood up. It was a gush. I tried so very hard to squeeze my legs shut and try to hold it in, but it was gushing out like someone turned the hose on. It seems funny reading about it, but at the time i was not laughing. I knew right away what it was. I left the house a couple hours afterwards to go to the hospital.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Well i got up to go pee. When I was done, I was going back to the bathroom...just as I entered the bathroom, I felt a trickle down my leg... I thought I wasn't done peeing and I had gone numb, since I didn't feel like I was peeing....
I ended up soaking 2 towels by the time we got into the car. Heh heh!
Apparently it's worse if you're sitting or lying down? something about the baby's head not blocking the *hole* and so the fluid gets out much easier and faster?
A&A'smommy replied: lol thanks ya'll!! yesterday was long and tiring and i was really scared since i decided to wait so long to go get checked...next time i hope its for real....i feel kinda stupid and one of the nurses made me feel stupid too she almost made me cry because i called my momma that makes me so mad dh didnt like her either i hope she isnt there when i go into actual labor! anyways im going to cry if i keep thinking about it...
