hot tubs and jacuzzies

AJD495 wrote: just wondering..i've heard its not ok for pregnant women to be in hot tubs is that true? and if so how big of a deal is it? and also does that apply to jacuzzies too, where you can control the water temp?...thanks smile.gif

moped replied: We have a hottub and I never went in to PG - don't know for sure about others, but I wouldn't chance it

moped replied: I am sure a jacuzzi would be fine if it isn't too hot

PrairieMom replied: I have heard that it is because you can raise your body temp in a hot tub and that is harmful to the baby. I would stay away.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: The hot tub is definitely a bad idea, but a jacuzzi is fine if you don't make the water too hot, and be sure to get out if you start to feel too hot.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: My midwife gave me permission to go to the natural hot springs in our area. She said that the heat ban was mostly due to fevers causing fetal damage, but that the fetal damage was more likely due to bacteria, not fever heat. She said that I would feel hot and get out before I was in long enough to do damage. But that was my midwife, I am sure others have different ideas. Ask your doctor.

AJD495 replied: well the thing is i'm not pregnant right now..that i know of...but i was suppose to start my period today and its been pretty regular for a year now, like literly down the same day every month...and i feel perfectly normal, and too, i had some light spotting late january or so, so i dont know if i am pregnant or not, but my husband and i are leaving tomorrow for a weekend away for valentines day and yep, we got the jacuzzi suite..lol...and i had a dream last week that i found out i was pregnant and couldnt use the hot tub...its a joke in my family cuz when i was pregnant before, before the miscarriage, i couldnt get in the hot tub, and then after the miscarriage, every hotel we went to the hot tub was broke..lol...oh well, we'll see...

akelly replied: I've also heard that hottubs are a no-no when you're pregnant. In fact, I like my baths kinda on the hot side and I even worry about that sometimes! blink.gif Like others have said, I'd ask your doc.

luvmykids replied: I got the same advice from my doc that kelly (idaho_boo) got from her midwife

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I wouldn't risk it myself, but since you're not PG, or at least you don't think so, I would say you're safe unless it's scorching hot. And I wouldn't stay in too long. Just go and have a good time and turn the hot tub on low!

Cece00 replied: You can go in them but only for short periods of time (10 min or less)

kimberley replied: i wouldn't risk it either. it is likely a coincidence but i m/c after a hottub weekend away sad.gif
