cameragirl21 wrote: ok, i admit it--i am a compulsive hand washer when it comes to going to the bathroom or changing diapers or anything bathroom oriented. and when i'm fixing food, i'll wash my hands after cutting onions for salads, etc. i remember when i was a teenage babysitter, i was fixing a meal for two kids--a boy aged 5 and his 2 year old sister. he asked me why i wash my hands so much and i just said because i'm working with food and a few minutes later, i didn't even realize he was paying much attention to what i was doing because he was just waiting for me to serve him his dinner and all of a sudden, he said, "geez, you wash your hands ALL THE TIME!"
when it comes to public bathrooms i not only wash my hands but cover the toilet seat in tp or a cover if it's available AND grab a paper towel with which i open the door, i don't touch the door or even the faucets, i usually use a paper towel to turn them after my hands are washed also. blush.gif
i think my mom really instilled in me that you MUST wash your hands after going potty when i was little and now i've just turned into my mom...i'm pretty proud to be like mom, though. cool.gif

amynicole21 replied: I'm exactly the same way, Jennifer. I wash my hands and use sanitizing gel or spray constantly. The other night I got into bed without washing my hands, and when I realized it I had to get up and go do it... I was not able to fall asleep knowing I had forgotten to wash them. blink.gif

One of my favorite restaurants has these amazing automatic door openers that you just wave your hand in front of - fabulous!! thumb.gif

cameragirl21 replied:
lol, me too! i carry hand sanitizer in every purse, in my car, gym bag, camera bag, etc. lol, i was photographing a baby once who puked on her mom's hand and we were out in a botanical garden with no sink or anything around and she asked if i had purell and i was like, "um, is the sky blue?"
as for that restaurant, man, we need to get one of those, i'd love not to have to waste papertowels and then have to find a place to throw them out. i love that airports now have no doors on bathrooms.

C&K*s Mommie replied: I am a stickler for hand washing in public especially. At home too, but my senses for cleanliness are heightened out in public. The girls are good about using paper towels to open doors, turn off faucets, and to flush the toilet. Christian has been learning at her school to hold the door open by standing against it. Kellie is too small to do it. I still have been teaching them use thier elbows, foot or backside to push the door open (with help from me) instead of their hands.
Getting Kellie not to touch the trashcan top when putting their paper towels in the receptacle is proving to be difficult, she wants to make sure the trash goes in all the way all the while touching the trash can after just washing her hands. emlaugh.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: okay I will admit I dont use the soap provided in most public places, why, well lets see they always smell bad and I can stand my hands to stink, it dries out my hands, some make my hands itch. So instead I will rinse them off or appear to wash then I use my hand sanitizer.

cameragirl21 replied:
i don't like the soap in public places either but i always use it and then put on lotion afterward, i even carry santizing lotion.
i'm a total freak when it comes to clean hands. happy.gif

Calimama replied: I've developed the habit, I used to be horrible at washing my hands when I was little.

Kentuckychick replied:
It is so good to know that I am not the only one with these types of compulsive behaviors! I have to wash my hands before I go to bed...

And when I eat, if I forget to get a fork out of the drawer then I will get the fork, wash my hands again, then go sit down to eat... yes, I'm a freak happy.gif

My biggest pet peeve is the "ice bucket" in our house... for cripes sake why can't people just wash their hands before they reach in their and touch all the ice... or grab a clean cup and use it as an ice scoop... it drives me nuts huh.gif

gr33n3y3z replied:
I'm the same way also if no paper is there and just blowers I will open the door with my jacket sleeve or sweatshirt lol

cameragirl21 replied:
lol, me too! i bunch up whatever i'm wearing, i've even used my skirt before and then make a mental note to make sure to wash whatever it is i'm wearing with my next load of laundry.... happy.gif

Cece00 replied: i'm a pretty compulsive hand washer, too...and I'm trying to turn my kids into some, too! I make my kids wash their hands ALL THE TIME (ewww, just think about what they are touching at school??? ick) and make them use hand sanitizer a lot.

lgood22573 replied: I also constantly wash my hands. I USED to use purell or germX, but it only kills germs -that means it does not kill Viruses like stomach virus, flu or any other illness that is caused by a virus and it has a disclaimer in fine print on the back of the bottle that says it only kills germs. Don't get me wrong, hand sanitizer is much better than nothing. I bought a product that is similar to hand sanitizer gel but it also kills all viruses too, so that makes me feel better if I can't wash my hands. Of course, it costs about 10 times as much but I don't care, I'm a germaphobe.

Boo&BugsMom replied: I handwash about 20 times a day, if not more. Especially when doing daycare, it is a must. I find it repulsive when people do not do anything after they use the bathroom. Do they know how many germs and sicknesses they are spreading to other people??? That's where things like rotovirus come from! Egads! I find it inconsiderate when people don't take the whole 15 seconds of time to do something about the germs that are now infested on their hands after using the restroom. A-hem...Even if you don't touch your pee or your "junk" gentlemen...the germs are still there!!! Wink-wink! wink.gif
