had to take Jacob to the ER....

kimberley wrote: i got a call around 11:30am saying Jacob fell and hit his head at recess and is having trouble seeing. i was told by the secretary that Jacob never told anyone and only said something when he couldn't do his work which was an hour later!

so we took him to the ER and waited forever and when i asked him what happened he told me he did tell the teacher that was on recess duty and she said "be more careful next time" and that was it! mad.gif the doctor saw him and said he seems okay but he has to be on concussion watch tonight which means i need to wake him every two hours tonight and make sure he is coherent. not fun. he actually blacked out for a minute and didn't get clear vision back for about 3 hours. i am letting him stay home tomorrow to rest for the day.

so i called the school when i got back and let them know what his condition was and tell them that Jacob DID tell a teacher. the secretary was angry and brought it to the attention of the principal. about an hour later i got a call from Jacob's teacher and the teacher that was on yard duty. they both stuck up for each other and said that Jacob didn't tell them something was wrong. the yard teacher said she didn't see him fall but came over after. she said she calmed him down from crying and walked with him a bit and sent him back to class. is it just me or do you think she should have made sure he was okay by taking him to the nurse immediately?! i mean any kind of head injury should at least have ice applied imo and the bump on his head is huge because he didn't get ice on it for over an hour. i am really annoyed at how the school handled this. poor kid sad.gif pls send some full recovery vibes for Jacob. thanks for listening to me rant and ramble.

MommyToAshley replied: Oh my!! How scary! I am glad he is doing better. Did the hospital do a Cat Scan?

I agree that you should keep him home. And, I would be VERY upset with the school and how they handled the situation.

Please keep us informed on how he is doing... I hope he is feeling better soon. grouphug.gif

maestra replied: When children fall and hurt their heads, I don't even let them get up. Our health tech is radioed to the playground, and she helps the child up and takes them to her office. In the hectic nature of the classroom (20 + kids) , I don't always notice bumps right away, especially if the child doesn't complain. But if he was out on the playground crying, he should have been sent right away.

grouphug.gif to Jacob and you!

amynicole21 replied: Poor Jacob! sad.gif

You would think that the teacher would try to get the full scoop from a kid crying at recess! Whether she saw it or not, she should have asked some questions before just dismissing it mad.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: mad.gif gurrr to the lack of caring at the school!

I hope he is better and doing fine

kimberley replied:
no they didn't because they said his demeanor seemed good and he was his usual self so he probably will be fine. he knew his name and who i was at every wake up check and is okay today except that the bump is still really sore since they didn't ice it right away. sad.gif

jen replied: WHAT A MESS at that SCHOOL! they should have called you and taken that more seriously. I am glad he is ok smile.gif . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~get well soon vibes Jacob~~~~~~~~~~

A&A'smommy replied: OMG i think your right that woman should have taken him to the nurse immediatly!!!! Poor baby!!!! I hope he is feeling better today!!!!!

CantWait replied: Omg I'm so sorry. I hope Jacob is feeling better now wub.gif Robbie hit his head hard at school twice this year and right away I was called to pick him up. I can't believe they would wait so long and be so careless to contact you mad.gif

coasterqueen replied: Oh gosh I must have missed this post ohmy.gif How scary!!!!! grouphug.gif grouphug.gif I hope he's doing better today!!

kimberley replied: thanks for all the well wishes. grouphug.gif Jacob seems okay now. he went to school today but is really tired now so he is resting. his bump is starting to go down so hopefully he can sleep well tonight. i talked to the principal of the school who told me that the yard teacher will be made an example of in this coming monday's staff meeting. she said there are certain protocols the teachers are supposed to follow and this teacher did not do so. she apologized and assured me that nothing like this will happen again. it shouldn't have happened in the first place but i am glad to know that no other mom will have to deal with this. thanks again for the support. grouphug.gif
