gender ID at almost 13 weeks????
Jackie012007 wrote: Just got a call from my friend who coincidentally got pregnant around the same time as me. She's about a week ahead of me, and got her standard 13 week u/s... and they were able to tell her what she was having!!!! She's having a boy!!! How is it possible to tell this early? If I didn't know her so well, I would say she was totally jerking me around! Anyone ever heard of this?? Apparently her baby is right on schedule and they did the u/s and after a little bit of looking and listening to the hb and taking "pictures", the tech went OOOH.... wanna know what you are having? And my friend was like HUH?
Is this possible??? Well, I mean I guess it's possible, but WTH???
secretly I'm kinda excited now because we go to the same OBGYN group and I have my 13 week u/s next week!!!
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I suppose it is possible. Genitalia begin developing in the first part of the 2nd trimester. If you have a cooperative baby and a very good ultrasound tech I guess you could see. But I wouldn't get your hopes up. That seems awful early. Although, boys are much easier to see than girls.
Jackie012007 replied: it's crazy!!! Yeah I won't get my hopes up, but ugh I just wanna know so bad! I just can't believe it!!!!
MyLuvBugs replied: I personally think that's WAY too early too tell. But then again they say if it's a boy you'll definately know it.
mummy2girls replied: hmm sounds odd because i always figured you have to be at 17 weeks along. When i went in for a U/S with Jordan at 14 weeks because they thought he may have spina bifada they tried looking but could not tell because it was too soon... but maby its diff for each pregnancy.
ediep replied: maybe the ultrasound machine was really new and high tech!
Jackie012007 replied: I dunno... like I said, if she wasn't a very good friend I would think she was a crack head! I looked it up online, I guess it is technically possible if you have really high tech machines and like someone else said, if it's a male it's easier to spot... I just think this is amazing!!!
zdk753 replied: I think it sounds odd too. I was 15 & a half wks along when I lost my baby. The Dr. told me there was no genitalia formed on the outside & nothing on the inside to tell him what I was having. He knew that I wanted to know so I could give my baby an identity.
iluvmylife replied: Hello everyone
In response to your question it IS VERY POSSIBLE to find out that early because I did!!! I was actually 14 weeks so she was a little earlier than me, but I was completely FLOORED when they told me. I am now 24 weeks and had another u/s last week to confirm and the 14 week one was right. I can say that I am also having a boy (yay for me! exactly what I wanted ) so it is easier to see that, but your friend is right and she is lucky her baby was being cooperative

Mom2Boyz replied: That does seem early, but I guess anything is possible.
groovy_mommy replied: Well, I agree that it might be a little too early. Ok, maybe the hightech can help you figure it out. But, just be careful 'cause sometimes the accuracy is not even 80% since the one done in the 18-20 weeks can end up wrong.
But, if you finally try that, let us here all know!
MommyToAshley replied: I had a U/S around that time to date my PG because I was not sure of my last cycle. The tech told me that she thought Ashley was a girl but that it was less than 80% accurate. The next U/S I had confirmed 99.9% that Ashley was indeed a girl (she wouldn't say 100%, heehee). So, I suppose it is possible, but I wouldn't go out and buy all blue just yet.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I had a u/s at 12 weeks and the tech said that she can a lot of times tell but will not tell anyone before 13 weeks so I believe it.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I think it's definitely possible. It might be harder to tell that early but I'm sure in a lot of cases they can see it fine. Good luck at your u/s next week - I hope they're able to tell with you too!
ashtonsmama replied: I doubt it, that early is not quite routine to find out, but we found out earlier than most, so it could be possible I guess...
amynicole21 replied: Yes, my friend had her baby ID'd at that age... and her little boy turned out to be a GIRL 6 weeks later!
jacobsmama replied: At the office I work at (as needed basis) We say not until 17-20 weeks, sometimes they can guess but not be for sure. But with our new 3-D and Newer u/s machine you can tell sometimes but again just a guesstamate usually.....That is exciting you will be getting one too! Are you gonna find out???
Jackie012007 replied: oh heck yeah I'm finding out as SOON as I can!!! I can't wait... u/s is tomorrow!!!!! nervous/scared/but finally EXCITED:rollsmile:
Heather77 replied: It's possible.... but that early on, both boy AND girl parts look very similar.
MissyKay2005 replied: It is very possible! With my oldest sone I had an ultra sound at 12 weeks and they were able to tell me it was a boy. I have a ultra sound picture of his bipper.
