for those with lefties
A&A'smommy wrote: when did you start to notice them favoring their left hand?
TheOaf66 replied: both the kids when they started using utensils for eating or holding crayons
coasterqueen replied: Same here. Although I started noticing it a little when they would grab for a toy -they favored their left more. Megan is strictly a lefty. Kylie always favored her left, but we could tell she was a bit ambidextrous. She writes with her left, but does a lot of stuff - baseball, other sports with her right.
3xsthefun replied: I think Maegan was around 2 or so when I noticed she was a lefty.
my2monkeyboys replied: Same here - Will always favored his left, but was very much a lefty once utensils and crayons came into play.
mom21kid2dogs replied: As soon as she started grasping. She was ALWAYS left hand dominant. Ironically, she's wring really well with her right hand right now. I'm shocked because she's such a lefty!
jcc64 replied: He was ambidextrous in PreK, which I think is pretty common in lefties. He was really deep into kindergarten before he settled on his left hand exclusively.
MommyToAshley replied: Ashley favored her left hand from the beginning... even when she was a baby and swatting at toys, she'd use her left hand.
sc_mom2five replied: I don't know if Laycie is left-handed or not yet but the other kids are right handed and I am left-handed. It's been quite a challenge for me to teach the little ones to write since we write with opposite hands!
A&A'smommy replied: ok so I'm not a total nut for thinking Autumn may turn out to be a lefty... she has been using her left hand a LOT she will use her right but she uses her left a LOT more AND when she throws something she throws a LOT better with her and she KNOWS that I don't know HOW I'm going to teach her.. ugh..
Boo&BugsMom replied: BOTH kids? Aiden is a righty.
Tanner was about 2-2 1/2 when I noticed him favoring one over the other.
Aiden flip flops, but he uses his right more than his left.
mom21kid2dogs replied: We're both righties with a lefty~it's not as difficult as you think, believe it or not!
A&A'smommy replied: I REALLY hope not... I just remember my mom having trouble with my brother and he still has horrible hand writting (of course some of that is laziness )
msoulz replied: We too first noticed it when Jake was starting to grab stuff - I would put a spoon up to his mouth and he would take it with his left hand. At the time I thought that was because I was offering with my right so he took with left. But we weren't sure until kindergarten really. But he does play sports with his right (wasted $ on a lefty glove when he was 5) so he is a bit ambi.
My3LilMonkeys replied: As soon as they started grabbing stuff - Brooke was very obviously a lefty. I'm pretty sure Bobby is a lefty as well but it's still too early to be positive.
I am a lefty so Madison is my problem child for teaching being right handed, but it's really not as hard as you'd think.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Olivia has the best handwrinting in her class, apparently. I hear about it at every P/T conference I was pretty worried about her writing at first because at 4 she was writing her name beautifully~but mirror image backwards~for a year. She also had plenty of letter reversals. It was all for not~no issues in writing whatsoever!
