floor heat registers? - jakes newest annoyance

boyohboyohboy wrote: ok, so we have floor heat registers, that kind you can pull right out of the floor. and jake has figured out how to do that.. then he is putting his toys down the vent...
any ideas on if there are covers for these things, or if there are any products out there to replace these with something he cant get off?
our entire toy collection is in the heater vent in the basement at this point!

PrairieMom replied: can't you just screw them into the floor?

boyohboyohboy replied: there are no holes in the metal, and i think it would have to go thru the carpet too, it sits on top of the carpet..
and believe my dh would love any excuse to get out the power tools, but i am trying to avoid that..the last time wasnt so good!

MommyToAshley replied: They have filters that you can place in the vents to keep him from putting stuff down in the holes, but that will only work if you can find a way to secure them.

We have the same ones, but luckily Ashley doesn't mess with them. We still have to clean them out though as stuff does fall down into them.

PrairieMom replied:
Ours are like that too, we drilled holes though the metal and screwed them into the floor. Its a PITA, but they don't come off anymore. laugh.gif

TheOaf66 replied: they do have plastic covers for them yes

I would drill a hole in them if you can't alter the behavior

we have a drum stick down our cold air return that went down all 3 levels of the house, that was fun

boyohboyohboy replied:
I think half of bob the builder and his team as well as his phone, and tools are down in the basement of our house in that ventilation system...
does that beat a drum stick?

you would think as smart as bob is he could gather his stuff and get back up here!

TheOaf66 replied:
believe me I thought about doing that to the Wiggles DVD's, Lucky Ducks, and a few other choice toys

boyohboyohboy replied:
I have not considered throwing more toys down the vent, but stuffing jake down there was one thought that briefly crossed my mind smile.gif

I suggest drilling too. You might just go to your local hardware store or somewhere like Lowes, Home Depot and see if they have any suggestions. I'm sure they've been asked that before wink.gif.

My3LilMonkeys replied: The girls use our vent as a piggy bank....DH called me at work one day and said I cleaned the vent in the living room....can I keep the money? Like a moron I say yes before I ask how much.....he found over $30 in change in it!!

redchief replied: I agree with those who recommended drilling the registers and screwing them down. You could also make or have some chicken wire grates installed under the registers on the vent terminals so that he can't stick larger item down there. dunno.gif

Anthony275 replied: get one like these
