ebay question - second chance offer?

~Roo'sMama~ wrote: A few days ago I bid on a bassinet on ebay and was outbid, but the person who outbid me didn't meet the reserve. I got an e-mail from ebay last night saying I could buy it for the amount that I'd bid on it originally. When I clicked on the link it brought up the page that the bassinet is on, and it's now listed as a Buy it Now for the amount of my bid. unsure.gif Has anyone else ever had this happen? I'd really like to have this bassinet - it's nice and I had only bid 45 dollars on it so that's what I'd be buying it for now... and the people selling it live near me and had already said (before the original auction had ended) that I could pick it up from them to save on shipping. Dh thinks I should contact the seller to make sure it's really him and not a scam ~ what do you think? I don't want to sound silly and paranoid, asking the guy if the offer is for real. blush.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yes, they do have second chance offers. But, definitely contact the seller first. Don't feel silly, just explain to him that you have never purchased on a second chance offer and you want to make sure it is legit. I bet he would appreciate that. wink.gif

That's a great deal, btw! Even better that you can pick it up!! thumb.gif

Jamison'smama replied: I have had second chance offers before. I didn't purchase the item because I had already purchased elsewhere. It sounds legit. Go through the regular ebay page and search for that bassinet and see if it comes up. If so, probably legit. How is their rating?

Edited...good grief, where did I learn to spell?

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Thanks Aimee! I'm glad you've heard of it - I have never had this happen before. tongue.gif You're right though - I'll send a message to the seller to be safe. I hope he gets back to me before someone else buys it!!

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Oh that's a good idea too - I never thought of doing that. The seller only has one feedback, so it's hard to tell from that.

amymom replied: I think that the page is just for you to do it at a buy it now, because you got the second offer. I had someone not buy it once and I gave a second chance and that is how I understood it would look to the buyer.
So I think somewhere there it will tell you how much time you have to accept the offer before it goes to someone else.

But like Aimee said I would ask the seller also.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I may be mistaken, but I think the second chance offer is only sent to you. unsure.gif In other words, I dont' think you will be able to see it listed on ebay...not unless they decided to relist.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Yeah I can't find it anywhere else, so that must be right. It says the offer ends on Jan 28, so if the offer was only sent to me then I guess I don't need to hurry. happy.gif I also realized that the message was sent to my inbox in MyEbay, not just to my e-mail, so that makes me feel a little more at ease about it. I'm still going to send a message to the guy though. Thanks for your help! I'm so e-bay illiterate. tongue.gif

Jamison'smama replied: Whoops, yes that's right. Otherwise it wouldn't really be a second chance offer, just a re-listing at that price.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Sara~ I have gotten second chance offers before but I would check just in case. Also I am going to sound a little paranoid here but don't go alone to pick up the bassinet and don't agree to purchase it off Ebay just in case it is a scam wink.gif With only 1 feedback I would be leary and you don't want to go meet anyone especially buying a baby item hug.gif Sorry I don't mean to sound wacko.gif but stiff like that kinda freaks me out! rolleyes.gif

Calimama replied: I just got a second chance item. It sounds legit but I would contact the seller just in case.

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Yeah I don't think I would feel too comfortable going alone. If Dh can't go with me I'll get a friend to. wink.gif At least it was me that suggested picking it up, and not them. That way I know they aren't just looking for someone to come to their house. I just didn't want to pay the $25 in shipping. tongue.gif

J-rod replied: 2nd chance offers are legit...but it is also a big scam opportunity for a scammer...BUT as long as the message shows up in your ebay profile after you have gone directly to ebay and log in then you are ok. agree to buy it....take someone with you and pay cash... BUT get reciept....just incase they complain to ebay for some unkown reason.

g'luck
