early intervention - age one
boyohboyohboy wrote: well, its time for early intervention. I have not been able to get Jakob to eat, he puts all kinds of foods in his mouth chews them till they are slim and then spits them out.... he refuses to eat, and he has started to not nurse as well. he keeps figiting and turning himself all the way around, and usually just when the let down comes so its a mess, and if I try to redirct him back on, he bites...
so the ped. suggested a while ago we try this early intervetion, its a speach therapist who comes to the house and will teach us some new feeding tech.
i sure hope it works and he isnt resistive to it.
i can hardly believe he is going to be one already.
redchief replied: Way to go Stacy. I think you're doing exactly the right thing!
boyohboyohboy replied: thank you for that, i was really starting to feel like a failure, and didnt want to have someone come to the house to teach me how to feed my own baby, but i obviously missed the boat somewhere and need some help...so thanks for making it ok to do so...
coasterqueen replied: Definitely think you are doing the right thing. We did this with Megan. Although she saw a feeding team (many docs - gastro specialist, Lactation consultant, speech therapist, and nutritionist). She couldn't eat anything because of a very strong gag reflex.
GL!
Boo&BugsMom replied: It's not a bad thing to need help Stacy. The best of parents need help and support. I think perhaps this is the support you have been looking for. Just keep your eye on the prize...an eating and sleeping little guy!!! I hope it works out.
ediep replied: good luck!
boyohboyohboy replied: karen, how long did you need to see the "team" before things started to work out? i know there are several people that come to the house to see jake, i just havent started the process yet. i just wondered what kinda time line i was looking at.
thanks jennie for the sweet comments as always...
boyohboyohboy replied: well no one called back today, so now we have to wait here tomorrow and see how this all gets started. i really just hope its easy on jake. i am sure i am going to be more worked up then him.
CantWait replied: Well obviously he needs the help Stacey, don't feel bad about it. Something as seemingly as natural as eating is not always so for all babies. My best friend has a daughter who is a slow learner because of complications at birth, it took her a long time before she started eating regular foods as well.
redchief replied: It's never bad to seek help when you're at the end of your rope. Frankly, I'm all in favor of seeking help before the end of the rope is at your fingertips. I've been a dad for 22 years and I still look for advice from others (yes, that's primarily why I'm here... I've learned much from you all). Needing help is not indicative of failure; it's acknowledging that you don't have all the answers, and none of us do.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Good luck I hope it works!
coasterqueen replied: Hmm, let's see. We started seeing someone in September of last year and finished in December of last year, then had to go back in February and stopped in March. We'll need to go back for speech therapy more than likely when she turns 24 months. Megan had forward tongue thrust movement which didn't help the eating issue and isn't helping the speech issue either.
msoulz replied: OMG Stacy, I sure hope this helps the little guy! And of course, helps you get some rest. You have tried so many things. Please don't feel like you missed the boat - you're human!! I still go back to it's the name! These Jake's just find their way to get all of the attention! Hang in there, feel good about all you have done with him and for him. He's a lucky guy to have you and all will work out in time for #3 . . .
A&A'smommy replied: Good luck I hope it works quickly for you!!
luvbug00 replied: I'm sure the therapist personm wil be alot of help. good luck KUP
