do you let your kids

jacobsmama wrote: Drink pop or Tea???

I was just wondering because when DH drinks his pops daily jacob is always saying I want a drink and he gives him one...DRIVES ME NUTS... blink.gif He is 2 years old and hyper enough. emlaugh.gif And the kid loves tea (sweetened of course) Just wondering if you guys do or if you think it is way wrong.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: My DH drinks Pepsi and DS knows it is Daddys Soda but never asks for a drink....but when he is at my parents house he always asks my step mom for a sip as well as at my Nanas house. Thats because he knows the grandparents will give in to that two year old smile, hyper or not!!

luvmykids replied: They snatch some soda here and there but if I have any say it's only Sprite.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Yes, we allow soda and tea but not every day - maybe once a week for tea and once every 2 weeks for soda. Plus she does get sips from daddy's cup more than she should because she's pretty sneaky. laugh.gif

Personally, I believe in everything in moderation. I have binge eating tendencies - if I deprive myself of something completely I will eventually end up binging on it and eating WAY more than I should. So to me it is better to get her used to soda being a special occasion drink that is OK once in a while than to forbid it and have her go nuts and drink a ton of it when she's older.

jacobsmama replied: ITA Pam. DH just thinks he can fill the sippie cup with mt dew! emlaugh.gif No he doesn't really but If I said it was ok I'm sure he would...Jacob loves anything we are eating or drinking. wink.gif

Brias3 replied: They have both occasionally. I usually try and reserve pop for the weekends or if we are eating pizza and if they do have it, its caffeine free varieties. However, that whole caffeine thing goes out the window I suppose when I let them have sips of my tea. I drink raspberry iced tea like its going out of style, so they'll occasionally have some. rolleyes.gif

The bulk of their liquid consumption is definitely still water, milk and juice though!

b&bsmom replied: I wish my guys would drink sprite or ginger ale so when we are out and don't have many choices but they won't drink either.

mckayleesmom replied: Russell doesn't, but Mckaylee gets a little every once in a blue moon.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Wil hasn't had either, yet. I will avoid pop for as long as I can, but if it were provided at a birthday party, I personally wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Once in awhile is okay IMO, but I won't make an effort to buy it. DH wasn't allowed pop as a child...not all that much sugar either unless it was naturally sweetened with real maple syrup, so when he did get it, he would go nuts!! blink.gif He and his sister would beg to go to a friend's house so that they could endulge! "Hey do you want to go play with my legos? No, I would rather raid your pantry!" This is truly how it was for him...so sad! sad.gif

JAYMESMOM replied:
That is only funny you say that becaue Jayme learned to drink out of a big girl cup by drinking pop. It cant go in the sippy cups or it fizzes over because there is no where for the carbonation to go.

BTW-she drinks sweet tea daily I don't think it is any different from koolaid, gatorade or most juices sugar wise.

Pop is usually every few days for a glass but I let her steal drinks from us. The other night she actually drank my full glass while I was in the shower. DH was oblivious but the best part was she came and told me her daddy drank my pop all gone. rolling_smile.gif

Her favorite pop is Coke or Mountain Dew.

We also allow slurpies once a week sometimes twice if we have an appt. and they are really really good.

And being the bad parents we are she gets icecream from the icecream man too.

On the more embarrsing side she also knows that Taco Bell sells pizza also and prefers that over tacos. But if you ask her she would rather have McDonalds.

I think we eat out to much.

BUT on the plus side she will sleep all night even after drinking a full glass of mountain dew. She gets that from her mother. I think it is because I drank caffeine thru my pregnancy and while breast feeding and it never affected her. wink.gif

Nina J replied: Emily has both occasionaly. She's more of a strawberry flavored milk girl though, she'll choose that over anything.
I think Odessa is a but young yet rolling_smile.gif

ediep replied: Jason doesn't like anything!! He only drinks water.

C&K*s Mommie replied: On occassion, here at the house I will bring Sprite in for the girls. Other caffienated sodas, no. We do not buy specifically for them, but they may get some of ours sometimes. Lately we have not purchased any sodas for the house (well Chris has, but none for me) so the little bit they may get here at the house is usually some of Chris'.

When we are in public, most of the menus at resturaunts offer Sprite, and we will get that for them. Otherwise we use those powders for water (those 'on the go' powders for water), or I will choose Powerade out of the machine, or at Chuck E. Cheese.

ETS: No, no tea. The girls are not fond of it at all.

aspenblue1 replied: Isabella doesn't drink pop every once in a while she will have some sprite because her friends are but I have never really exposed to her to soda. She loves white milk it is about all she drinks so I just offere her milk or water usually.

luvbug00 replied: yes happy.gif

MamaJAM replied: Yes - my older kids are allowed soda with one meal per day. DD#2 and DS#1 often take us up on the offer. DD#1 has been drinking mostly gatorade for a few months...and DD#3 only ever drinks water. DS#2 has tasted soda on rare occasions - but doesn't really like it.
The kids have all tasted tea -- but none of them like it.

Also....DD#1 occasionally drinks coffee -- she's 13.

BAC'sMom replied: Sure...sometimes

moped replied: Jack has never had pop yet.....hoping I can keep it that way

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yes, they are allowed soda on occassion. Maddie moreso than Ethan, but Maddie's drink of choice is TEA, decaf, with sweet n low. emlaugh.gif

Ethan only gets sprite when he does drink soda. wink.gif And I used to buy soda for the house until I quit drinking it a year ago. happy.gif

ilovemybaby replied: Occasionally I let Abby have some soda. But I mix it with water. Except on occasions when we are out and I don't have water. Like yesterday she got to drink it straight. blush.gif
Tea... no. It has tannin in it and tannin destroys iron. So I don't let Abby have coffee or tea.
