do you go??

Christian got an invite for a party this weekend, and I would love to take her and I also want to attend in order to get to know some of the other parents since there seems to be no other way to get to know them otherwise. Most parents drop off and leave (like me), or even drop their child(ren) into the drop off lane outside letting their child go into school on their own. So I have not had a chance to get to know the other parents since I seldom see them.
My question is: Do you attend the parties of children in your childs class if you really do not know them?
PrairieMom replied: This hasn't come up for us yet. I don't know what I am going to do. I know that I have a responsibility to get to know the parents of my childrens friends, but I am really uncomfortable in those situations, and I am already dreading it.
TANNER'S MOM replied: One of my really good friends I met this way. Tanner was in kindergarten with her son.. they were best friends..and wanted to have a birthday party and let Tanner spend the night. I was very nervous..but we got to know each other. Payton Nana's is now Tanner's Nana.. she picks him up after school, takes care of him like he is a member of the family.. really treats him right.
So, I say go.. relax be who you are and get to know the kids and parents. Its a great way to socialize and meet parents with kids the same age as yours.
When Tanner had his party and we invited the whole class to the fishing party.. lots of parents stayed, a few dropped them off.. but the parents had just a good time as the kids they said!
gr33n3y3z replied: never had that problem bc everyone knows every body in this town
If I lived in a much bigger area Oh yeah I would have to know and meet these parents even before the party
amynicole21 replied: Honestly, I wouldn't think of leaving them at a party at their age yet. We always stay and expect parents to stay.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Oh, I am sorry about the confusion. I tend to over-explain (losing the point) or under explain things. Bad habit I have yet to break.
Some parents of students drop their children off outside of the school (in the designated drop off lane) on school days, not at parties. Sorry about the confusion.
luvmykids replied: We go to most parties they're invited to if the invitee likes/considers the child a friend. Sometimes I don't hit it off with the parents, other times I do. Even if I don't make a lasting friendship I like getting insight to the kids' friends families.
Jolyn replied: My son is six and i have always stayed for parties. I don't think we have attended one where the parents didn't stay. I'm sure now that he's six it will start but i wasn't comfortable with it up til now.
Also like you said we got to know alot of the families by attending b-day parties.
Edited to say.....i was talking about preschool though. Haven't been invited to any since he started Kindergarten. I'm sure it will happen soon though.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Thanks ladies! I am sorry about the confusing original post. I thought about it later and the "you" was implying you and your children going.
I think we will go ahead and go, and I will remember what you said Mel, about the possiblity of making a longtime friendship like you did.
lisar replied: I go ans stay there with Lexi. I think she is a lil to young still (for me) to be able to walk away. I have made a few friends that way. Its nice to get to know what other kids in her class are like and thier parents.
ediep replied: yes, I always go if we don't have plans that day. It is a good way for Jason to get to know the kids outside school and it is nice to chat with the parents
luvbug00 replied: I didn't and don't go. a bad habit on my part.
Jamison'smama replied: I go and stay, however, there is a little boy coming to Jama's party on Saturday that I have only known for 3 weeks--she asked if she could drop him off because she has a wedding she has to attend. I think it's fine if they want to drop them off with me but I'm not ready to do that.
