digital frames

my2monkeyboys wrote: Does anyone have a digital photo frame? Is it good, in that it doesn't distort pictures?
How do they work? I am thinking of getting one for my parents and putting pix of all of us on it, but I don't know what all I'll need to do that.
Any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks!

boyohboyohboy replied: I have been looking for one for my parents to have for the kids pics..but finding one that is under $100 has not been easy. my inlaws have one, and he hooks it up to the computer and loads the pics then they just rotate all day. They look great.
but for me, its the cost right now.
I am also looking for something smaller that my mom can take with her and show off her grandkids..

lisar replied: My personal opinion on them is that I dont like them. Thats just me though

Last year I gave all the grandparents the digi photo keychains, they're not super duper quality, but the ones I got were great for showing off grandkids at the grocery store. They were inexpensive too, I think about $20.

mom21kid2dogs replied: Stephen has one at work and I have one here at home. We like them. The quality is fine. We don't have the $300+ variety where the screen is bigger or anything. Ours were about $80 at Radio Shack. The screen is 7". Like most flat technology, it's best viewed from straight on~more distorted from the side. Stephen's is a little older than mine (his is 2-3 years old) so we have to download pics through a card reader (our computer is also a 2002 do no built in card reader). He got mine last year. It has a cord that plugs directly into the computer (or you can use a flash drive) to download.

Stephen got one for his mother last year. He's never gotten it from her to download the pics though so I think it's still in the box! tongue.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: We got one for my parents and Troy's parents for Christmas. Troy's parents love it. She put it together and the pictures are as clear as they are in the camera. Meaning, if your camera takes crappy pictures, then it will look like that, but if your camera has a good megapixel then the pics will be nice and clear.

I got mine the day after Christmas for $40 a piece. Had I not found that deal on Black Friday I wouldn't have gotten both sets of parents one because otherwise they are pretty pricey.

my2monkeyboys replied: So would I need to buy a separate memory card, or does the frame have memory in it?
Also, about how many pictures does one hold, on average? Do they hold at least 15-20?
Thanks!!

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Most of them do not have an internal memory, which means you have to buy a seperate SD card. Usually they are at least 1GB or 2GB, which holds between 100-200 pictures or more. If it says "internal memory" then it can hold pictures inside the frame. I like the one I got our parents, where you just take the pictures from the camera, then take out the SD card and plug it right into the frame, and viola! smile.gif Plain and simple. Being that Troy's parents are a bit technologically challenged, we needed something simple. laugh.gif

ETA: the SD cards are very cheap...under $10. biggrin.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: So how would I get pix off the computer onto the frame??? I have a ton that aren't on the camera anymore that I'd love to put on there.
Thanks!

boyohboyohboy replied: stephanie, I was at kohls today and they are having a sale on these digital photo frames..all of them were under $40 and they were nice.
we got one of the key chain ones for $18
and they all come with a disk to tell you how to use it and a usb cable.
maybe you can see on line?

A&A'smommy replied:
My husbands grandmother got one from my MIL for christmas last year and they just hook it up with a usb to mini usb cord that came with digi frame it wasn't very expensive but it works well and as long as the pictures are good quality then they look fine on the frame.

MoonMama replied: I'm not sure about the actual frames. I got the grandparents all digital frame keychains this year. They are awesome! I spent about $25 each and uloaded 100 plus pics of Brae on to each.

Cece00 replied: Ive had one for a couple of years and to be honest, I barely use it!!

I dont remember to turn it on, put new pics, etc.

My boss bought one for his wife last yr & she never uses it either.

If you think you/person you are buying the gift for will really like it, go for it. Otherwise, its likely they wont use it too much.
