commando?

luvmykids replied: That was part of the problem, I was terrified to zip his jeans! I did let him go bare under his pants today, and he loved it. Had to call all the grandparents to tell them he wasn't wearing undies. One of them asked why and he said b/c he didn't have any clean!!!! (Not true, btw )

msoulz replied: My 7 year old sometimes "forgets" to wear underwear, and he also forgets to wipe when he is done, so underwear is a must. He did go through a phase where he did not want to wear it but we forced the issue because we figured those jeans would be pretty uncomfortable without - but then I guess he would have figured that our had we let him! Perhaps this anti-underwear phase is a common thing?

No, he doesn't really have any friends yet. He plays with the boy next door sometimes, who's 5 and just gave him some underwear he never wore b/c he outgrew them before they opened them, and Colt was pretty jazzed b/c he loves that little boy. When I asked him why he didn't want to he just said he doesn't "need" them.

We've worn the boxer briefs and regular briefs, I've been looking online for little boxers. Haven't found any yet.

Good one Ed! I like that suggestion, try different types/styles of underwear. Maybe he wants to wear the same style his Daddy does. Boys want to be just like their Dad's at that age. So have Jeff go to the store with Colt, and have them do some male bonding, buying underwear Colt picks out.

I also like the sugg. Kelly gave, about making weekends commando days. But, I would try to get different types of underwear, shopping with Daddy first.

Ann, he already has the boxer briefs like daddy. But I'm sure daddy can probably talk him into underwear better than me when he gets back.

As long as I can get some on him for church tomorrow ....

That's really not strange at all. Both of our boys went through "commando" stages, albeit short. What is funny is that neither of the girls went through it, though Erin did go through a "no clothes at all" stage. Fortunately we didn't get a lot of surprise visitors during that period.

A a clothes hater, I totally relate to the no-undies thing. Not that any of you need to know that... but if I can avoid one more piece of clothing, I will.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a nudist... but the clothes today are just so uncomfortable - I rather stay in a nightie all day than put pants, undies, bra, shirt

I don't care if the kids don't want to wear their underwear - however since they are not in "my" care during the day, I give them the choice when they don't want to wear their underwear, to wear a diaper. That usually sets them straight and they are happy to wear the undies. Although Emilie has gone to daycare in a diaper a few times. I wouldn't worry too much about it - but maybe let him wear pants that don't have a zipper...

krispivey replied: My daughter forgot her panties after swimming in summer camp several times last year. We enforce it b/c we are worried that she can hurt her private areas without this extra protection. My girl is 6 and gets that part, though she does not always like it! We do still have to remind her sometimes - her newest -- playing in her room naked in the morning before school. My husband is the b4 school person and it drives him nuts. She has calmed down on this since I talked about protecting her privates and the fact that daddy does not like to see her naked.

Insanemomof3 replied: Tristan has been refusing underwear too. I think maybe they are just too confining for him (although diapers are worse in my opinion) so we let him go commando. It is the only thing that works with him still potty training. I would just let him go if he is more comfortable. Some people just hate underwear.

luvmykids replied: We've tried the boxers, he says they feel funny lol. So we're going with the "only on weekends" thing. Little boys are just funny I guess!

TANNER'S MOM replied: Tanner went thru this. I would get up and check on him and he would be butt nakes in the middle of the night. I wanted to wear no underwear. I let him. I never really thru a fit about it. He did catch himself in the zipper once enough to bleed. And that really taught him a lesson.

I used to let him run naked if he wanted too. My mother in law hated it and would ask me why? I would say I want him to comfortable wiht his body, when he wants to cover it up he will.

And he does now. He will dress infront of me now at almost 8 and his Dad..but all other brother and sisters and even Grandpa must leave..lol

Kids will be free. About 4-7 boys are really discovering what it is and what it feels like. When they are babies.. they find it.. but about this age they discover the real difference in men and woman.. and what that part is. I think it is part of the discovery!
