changing your name - just a thought...

luvbug00 wrote: Ok so I was thinking as a kid i used to want to change my name SOOOO bad! so i did sort of ...

*my 1st name is nadia. legaly spelled Nadya but i prefer the I version.
*I lothe my middle name ( ha I'm not putting it!) but i wanted it to be "maria"
*my last name is soo irish and it's ok but i wanted to use my birthname "cruz".

if you could change your name in any way what would it be??

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Toughy. I spelled Kelly with an "i" for a while in 6th grade. Until one of the boys told me that I was doing it because "I stands for idiot" I love my middle name but for a while I wanted to be called by my initials KC, like Casey. BTW middle name is Catherine. And I never really gave too much thought to my last name. Still don't.

MomtoPate replied: Well, my name is HORRIBLE...lol...keep in mind that I am from Texas...born and raised here....ok..so my birth name is Melinda Jo Sitton...how horrible is that? I go by Mendy, which is ok, except that most spell it Mindy...Jo is just terrible to me and Sitton?!?!

I think that if I would be any name...it would be like Lucy...I am not sure that I would even have a middle name!! LOL But I like the name Lucy...

zdk753 replied: When I was little I hated my first name (Alayna) only b/c no one ever pronounced it right (still don't). I always wanted to go by my middle name which is Christine. Now I love my name, but after I got married I was always telling everyone I was changing my name to something like Sue Smith b/c now no one can pronounce my first or last name.

mammag replied: I always wanted to be Jenny instead of Jeanie when I was little because I got so tired of people asking me if they could have their three wishes (going by the pronunciation, not the spelling).

But now I wouldn't change it....kind of fond of it actually. happy.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
I LOVE your name its VERY southern and cute!!

I wanted to be jessy when I was a child but now I am jessy lol because my friends all call me that or jess tongue.gif

luvmykids replied: I hated my name as a kid, I was mortified when boys called me Monica the Harmonica or Mo (don't ask me why that bothered me so much!) I always wanted a "cute" name like Kelly or Jessie, all the cute girls had those -ie or -y names.

But now I think I'm ok with it, except that my real first name is Merry Monica which until this posts was a deep, dark secret! Only 2 people know that and one is my best friend who still calls me Merry G Money or Merry G for short. (Back in the 80's when everyone was "G", you know, "Whats up, G?" I think it was part of the gangsta rap movement rolleyes.gif )

Anyway, my parents named me that because they were hippies and thought it would keep me surrounded by happy vibes but I hated it because people always thought it was Mary Monica and that it was just plain weird to have 2 first names.

mummy2girls replied: I actually wanted to change my name to Shawna when i was 13...LOL...

My mom and dad was goign to call me dawn but after i was born they decided on Shelly

My name is Shelly Lynn

Brias3 replied: I don't mind mine, Briana, but I don't love it either. Its pronounced Bree-ah-na, not Bree- anna. I've been called Bria (and sometimes Bri) since I was little as a nickname. My husband, however, has never called me Briana- only Bri or Bria. He says its less "stripper-ish" that way. blink.gif Thanks, honey- how sweet rolleyes.gif The only time I really DIDN'T like my name was when Brianna, Briana, Breanna started becoming real popular. I felt too old to have the name in light of all the babies running around with the same name laugh.gif

PrairieMom replied: I always wanted to spell my name Terra insead of Tara. I was named after Gone with the Wind. and was sccary close to being named Scarlett. ohmy.gif Could you imagine a South Dakota Girl named Scarlett? rolleyes.gif rolling_smile.gif

J-rod replied: i always wanted to go by my initiails. J.V. or middle name Vincent (Vince) but never did...cause there were 2 Vince's and 1 J.V. in school with me all the time....

lisar replied: My name is Lisa Michelle. So I dont think I would change it. I remember when I was little I always loved the name Amanda. Dont know why but I did. And now best friends name is Amanda. Isnt that weired.

mom21kid2dogs replied: I'm perfectly happy with the name. I'd love to change out the body & face, though!! tongue.gif

Our Lil' Family replied:
So how is your name pronounced? Is it Tara or Terra? I have a cousin named Tara (after GWTW, like you) and we all call her Tara but her DH and his family apparently think it should be Terra and call her that.

BAC'sMom replied:

Try growing up with boy's name! rolling_smile.gif

Nope! Never! I am used to it now.

mckayleesmom replied: Mine is Brianne........I hated it when I was little...HATED IT. It was very uncommon 25 years ago when I was named and people always called me Brian...If my mom came to the office to get me at school...they would call my name over the loudspeaker as BRIAN. So embarrassing as a child. Also...when people in the store or park would hear my mom say it,,,they would call me over and ask me to say it over and over again because they "just loved it". wacko.gif .

If I had to change my name....I would change it to Annie......none of my family called me by my whole name unless I was in trouble anyways...They all call me Annie or Breezy.......My husband and friends are the only people that call me Brianne or Bri.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Dani (short for Danielle) I always loved that name, and if we ever had a another girl (highly doubtful) we would name her Danielle. Marcelle, or Marcy would be another.

msoulz replied: Mary Elizabeth. Now how much more Catholic can it be??? There were 4 girls named Mary in my elementary classes. And they called me Mary Beth, I really don't like Beth at all!! It took me YEARS to get everyone to stop calling me Mary Beth - except for my grandmother and great aunt, they still do. My mom wanted to name me Heather or Jennifer, way more interesting.

But now I'm 40 and it's too late to change, and I no longer care!! emlaugh.gif

PrairieMom replied:
They are both pronounced the same. I pronounce it Tara, like Sarah only with a T.

TheOaf66 replied: well mine cannot be shortened or lengthened Troy and it means a foot soldgier

That is great huh. But hey, if I would have been a girl my name would have been Yvette so I think I got the better of the two. biggrin.gif

holley79 replied: Well try going through school with the name Holley Woody. Just imagine the names kids came up with. Top that off with being a redhead. dry.gif LOL. No one ever spelled my first name right. They always left out the "e". I always wanted to go by my midle name which is Serena. blush.gif

kit_kats_mom replied: If I were to change my name, it would be to something classical and easy to spell. Seriously. My mom was a femanist hippie and she figured that if she spelled my name like the male version of Cary, that I'd meet fewer sexual boundries (for example, when mailing in resume's). She really thought this through apparently....while surrounded by a cloud of pot smoke! rolleyes.gif Thanks mom. No really, thanks a lot. tongue.gif I just love getting "is Mr. Cary W.... in", mail addressed to Mr. Cary and my favorite thing of all, spelling my name every time someone has to write it down. UGH!!!!!

I tried going by my middle name Dylan (after Bob. Go figure) in high school but that didnt' go over so well. This was before the whole Dylan, Dillon name boom. I wanted a nick name so badly but I couldn't come up with anything better than ConDoM (CDM, my initials) or Hairy Cary. So alas, no nickname for me. emlaugh.gif

So all of this leads me to how I named the girls. Both easy to spell names with nickname availability. Katherine Taylor and Lauren Elizabeth. But now that everyone has started replacing random letters with "y", I've had to correct some peoples spellings of their names too. No it is not Kathryn or Lauryn. rolleyes.gif

Our Lil' Family replied:
We say it Tah-ra, the a is like the a in apple.

garrettsmom replied: I was supposed to be Elizabeth, but instead they went with Mary Anne!! I always hated it, and all the songs that went along with it!!! sleep.gif Now, I don't really care anymore.

Mommy_Michele replied: I wouldn't change my name for $999,999,999,999,999

Yeah- I wub.gif it THAT much! rolling_smile.gif
