bit of a rough day today - learn a lesson from our misfortune
jcc64 wrote: My boys play on travel baseball teams- and we frequently go away for weekend tournaments. This w/e, we were in Ct. Stayed at a Courtyard Marriot- nice hotel, right off a major highway. Right in the parking lot last night, someone completely smashed in the driver's side window, and grabbed our GPS, my digital camcorder, camera, and most disturbingly, Corey's beloved ipod shuffle and leapster (which were sitting right on her carseat and in her toybag, respectively.) I was pretty calm about my stuff, but man, was I pissed about her things- the loser actually had to rifle through her Barbie dolls and coloring books- talk about bad karma- stealing from a kid?????? Not sure why the alarm didn't go off. But the cops told us this is a national epidemic- smash and grabs at hotels near major highways. So- word to the wise, don't leave ANYTHING in your car when staying at a hotel, even if you think it's well hidden or out of sight. Our car was completely PACKED with baseball equipment- they took their time and went through everything. We had to drive all the way back to NY (3hrs) with plastic and duct tape. Corey was crushed that someone would steal from her. The one redeeming moment came when the parents of Noah's teammates all chipped in and went out and replaced her ipod between games. Very sweet and touching, and it was a nice turnaround for all of us.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I can't believe people would steal from a child!!! Sorry to hear about it.
luvmykids replied: Wow, I can't imagine a mind like that How great of those parents to replace it for her!
redchief replied: Oh, Jeanne, I'm sorry. I've had vehicles broken into and it feels, well, personal. It's nice to see that there is still compassion in this world, though and kudos to the families that felt the need to try and make you all feel better after what happened!
Boys r us replied: OMG!!! I can't believe that!! Makes you feel so violated and what a tough lesson for Corey to have to learn at such a tender age!
how sweet that the other parents bought her a new iPod!
Teesa®© replied: I'm so sorry you were stolen from, that's just horrible.
Isn't a GPS trackable?
amynicole21 replied: Oh man, I'm so sorry. People are so evil sometimes.
gr33n3y3z replied: We take everything out of the truck when we go any where Its so sad that has to be done
So sorry you had to go through that
MommyToAshley replied: Oh man, that sucks. I am so sorry. Have you called your car insurance?Maybe everything will be covered under your insurance. I had my car broken into when I was in college and they paid to replace everything that was stolen, even my CDs and college books.
That was so sweet of Noah's teammates to chip in and replace Corey's Ipod shuffle. It just goes to show you that for every bad person there's a few good ones.
mom21kid2dogs replied: How sweet of the parents to chip in and replace the IPod! Wouldn't want to be the folk carrying that bad karma around! Hopefully, insurance will replace your personal belongings. Bummer to lose your pics!
Kaitlin'smom replied: awww man some people are just well we all know. I have to admit I am impresses that all htoes family's chiped in and got her a new one.
this so reminds me of a client who packed the car the night before they were leaving a hotel, they just figured it would be easier since they has to get up at I think it was 5a to leave. they lost everything they had with them but what little they had in the room.
I dunno about your state but here personal things like that are covered under a home, renters or condo policy and not the car insurance, only thing the car insurance would cover is the broken window and anything the stole that was part of the car, or broke IF you carry the coverage for it.
My2Beauties replied: Oh man Jeanne, I am so sorry, how awful. This is so odd, the same thing happened to one of Des's softball teammates when we went to Ohio last year and the police told them the same thing, a huge ordeal now. I'm so sorry you had to deal with this crap on what should have been a wonderful family weekend getaway. I feel so bad for Corey, I'm so glad the other parents all chipped in and bought her a new iPod.
grapfruit replied: All that stuff would be covered under PROPERTY insurance, not car insurance. And 99.99% of the time, in the long run it'd be cheaper to just replace that stuff then make a claim. B/c then if you're "claims free" and get a discount for that, you'll lose it, and you actually might be dinged for the claim.
I've gotten my car broken into, it makes you feel so violated. And you're right, karma will come back on them.
MommyToAshley replied: Hmm, maybe my stuff was covered under my renters insurance as I had both renters insurance and my car insurance through the same place. I don't remember having any kind of deductable though, which is why I thought it was my car insurance. They did steal my stereo, so maybe it was a combination of both insurances? -- Anyways Jeanne, hopefully it's covered under something. I'm sorry again.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: O Jeanne I am so sorry! That is horrible and ITA that whoever did this has some major bad karma coming! I am glad that Korey was still able to see the goodness in people by having her Ipod replaced but it is still a rather hard (and un-needed) lesson for a child to have to learn!
jcc64 replied: Thanks for all the kind words and advice. I sure hope it's covered under something- that was alot of stuff to replace.
msoulz replied: So sorry about your losses, and the frustration that goes along with it.
Thank you for sharing to remind the rest of us. That's very kind of you!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: I'm so sorry to hear this! That's awful! That was so nice of the parents to chip in like that!
A&A'smommy replied: That is awful I can't believe someone would do something to MEAN!!!! I'm sorry that happened to ya'll!!!
ediep replied: how awful!!! So sorry that happened to you guys!
MyBabeMaddie replied: What is this world coming to?! I am soo soo sorry to hear that! Do you have to pay for your car damage too let alone all of your other stuff?
jcc64 replied: Luckily, the car is owned by dh's company, so their insurance will cover that. The unknown is all the electronics.
HuskerMom replied: I'm sorry! That's horrible, stealing from a child!
MoonMama replied: People make me so sick! What a horrible thing to do! I am so sorry! That was so sweet of the teams parents though.
:.Mrs_Mommy.: replied: That is awful! I'm so sorry!
Karma will definately come back to bite that person!!
