baby names

mckayleesmom wrote: Was just wondering what kind of different names you came up with before you finally chose your babys name. Mckaylees name was going to be Olivia, but I had always loved the name Mckaylee a slight difference from Mckayla. When we decided on Olivia I thought I had already ran Mckaylee by my husband and I thought he refused it, when I mentioned it again months later he really liked it and so we switched it.

MommyToAshley replied: We had a hard time agreeing on names. Ashley was almost named Paige.

mckayleesmom replied: I use to love that name when that show Life Goes On was on tv, The oldest sister was named paige. Then that name got really popular after that show. I think its cute though.

kit_kats_mom replied: We had names narrowed down to:

Katherine-4
Dylan (My middle name)-3
Heather-3
Leah-5
Taylor-11
Courtney-7
Kendell-11
lauryn-9
Mallory-4

We wrote them all on an index card and had friends and family vote for their 2 faves. The number of votes each name got is beside it. Her name was Kendell Taylor for 6 months then I kept having dreams about cats so I told DH she wanted to be named Katherine. laugh.gif I also thought that Kendell and Taylor were both kind of trendy and that I'd like for her to have one classic name and one trendy one biggrin.gif Next baby will probably be Lauryn Kendell if it's a girl.

BTW, I still have the index card where everyone voted. It's in her baby book. Great keepsake!

mummyof2boyz replied: Hayden was almost Conner untill about 2 weeks before he was born. We also almost named him his middle name Cole. DH really wanted the name Jacksom. But I really did not care for that name. For a girl if we ever have one will be Emily Rose.

mckayleesmom replied: If we have another girl,,not for another 3 years, her name will probably be Addison Rose cause he likes the name Rose and again Addison is another name that I liked that I thought that he turned down and the other night we were talking about a co worker of mine whose name is Addison and he thought it was a neat name, he didn't like it before. I think he just has selective listening.

supermom replied: For each child, we just basically had one name, and thank goodness we had the name matched up to whether the child was a girl or boy (and we didn't find out before we had them either). For our oldest son, he was named Paul J Jr, and we didn't have a girl's name picked out. For the second one, we had a girl's name (Leah Marie - Leah for my grandma and Marie for my great aunt) but no boy's name - same for number 3 (girl's name, but no boy's) and she was a girl (Sara Jean) - Sara just cuz and Jean for my mom and sister.

With Anders we only had a boy's name picked out, named after my DH best friend in Sweden. This time we've got the first part of the girl's name, but are having a hard time with the middle name. We decided on Emily, but can't decide on a middle name. We've 'kicked around' Emily Grace, Emily Rose and Emily Kay, but still haven't decided on one....glad we've got a few more months!! We still haven't even come up with a boy's name, so hopefully we'll follow 'tradition' and have a girl!

paradisemommy replied: ours was pretty set...we picked taven as a combination of both our names. mine is tammy and dh is stephen hence taven (didn't want to use the ph)..his middle name is the name that dh's grandma used to call him (dh) (before she passed away) so the naming of #1 was easy..

now #2 (when we start trying, God willing) will be another story unsure.gif

MomToMany replied: We just went through a baby name book and wrote down all the names we liked. When we found out what we were having, that narrowed it down even more wink.gif ! We knew what the middle names would be (after the grandpas in the family), so it was finding a name that sounded and looked good together. I've always wanted a daughter with the name Hannah Rose, so that's what we used when we got our girl! My middle name is Anna, but I didn't like that for a first name, so I just added the "h's" to get Hannah! We also didn't want "old-fashioned" names, either, although most of them are on the most popular lists smile.gif !
We now have:

wub.gif Logan William
wub.gif Quentin Theodore
wub.gif Ethan Andrew
wub.gif Hannah Rose

maliksmommy replied: I have had Malik's name picked out for about 7-8 years. I got the name from the nurse on E.R. When I first saw the show I told myself that if I ever had a boy I would name him Malik. As for girls names I think we talked about every single possibility and agreed on nothing. The only thing that was set in stone was the middle name would have been Elizabeth~mine and my grandmas middle name:)

MomToMany replied:
thumb.gif That's my FAVORITE show! And that's a really cool name!

Kaitlin'smom replied: We did not start talking about names until we found out it was a girl. A long time ago when we talked about the possibility of kids we had a girls name picked out it was

Stormy Nicole

so that was an option then the other names we liked were

Stephaine
Nikita
Nicole
Kaitlin (took DH a while to decide he liked it, he hopes she will got by Kat)
Erika

so Nicole became the middle name since it went with all the names and heck it was the original middle name

it came down to Kaitlin and Erika in the end. wub.gif

but as you see Kaitlin won! So I picked her first name and DH picked the middle

Kaitlin'smom replied:

hehe now I know how to pronouce it! I was wondering! rolling_smile.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:

Hmmm.... I thought it was just "Ma-leek" ? Am I wrong? Oops! (I don't watch ER)

maliksmommy replied:

You are right on how to pronounce it, at the doctors office they always call him Mal-ik They even have it on his chart how to pronounce it and they still can't get it right wacko.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Phew!! lol!!

I have a French name..and most English speaking people have a hard time with it.

Véronique (Vay-row-neek) and they just massacre it.

So now... I just introduce myself as Vé (Vay) and it saves me and them a lot of grief.

maliksmommy replied:

What a pretty name biggrin.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Thank you! lol!! blush.gif

mckayleesmom replied: My name is Brianne and it is a popular name now along with Brianna, but when I was young nobody had my name and they use to always call me Brian, or they would always add and a at the end and say Brianna. Even teachers would say Brian or Brianna..drove me nuts....At my last job I had them just put Bri on my name tag so I could save people the trouble of trying to figure it out, but it backfired cause then they would ask what it stood for....And I hate telling people my name cause they always think Im saying Maryanne..eeer wacko.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: I always get people calling me Diane, (i hate that name, no offence to anyone who has that name, just not for me) instead of Diana. Thats why I go by Di its so much easier! Even DH's realitives call me Diane urg I usually ingore them, I mean come on its been 11+ years now, get it right! I even had an friend who was not sure if it was Diane or Diana give me a nick name so is not not offend me, what a sweetie!

maliksmommy replied:

Hey now, that's my name! I understand your frustration I am always having people call me Diana, one of my best friends name is Diana and people are always getting our names mixed. We look up no matter what is said because they are usually saying the wrong name.

By the way no offence taken.

Kaitlin'smom replied: sorry, glad you did not take offence, my mother instilled the Diane thing in me, I do like the way yours is spelled though! I guess its when someone with no accent tries to put a slang into it and really pronounes it terrible! wink.gif

mckayleesmom replied: My family just always called me annie. And friends called me Bri, and my mom called me Breezy.

Roxworld replied: Oh....the debates dh and I went through trying to come up with a name!!!! wacko.gif
I have always liked the name Aidan, but dh had never really heard it spoken, and was not too sure....so it got taken off the list. Then we went through the books....night after night. We finally narrowed it down to:

Gavin

Evan

Blake

Chad

Trent

Then we went to see "The Ring" (I know....not exactly the type of movie you want to think of when naming your first born...lol unsure.gif ) and the little boys name was Aidan...well dh fell in love with it....so after all that, Aidan was the one. It means Fire/warmth of the home, and that is definitely what Aidan is wub.gif His middle names are Raymond for my father, and Gregory for his godfather (my best friend), and it is also dh's middle name. If Aidan would have been a girl, he would have been Claire or Manon

Mommieto2Girls replied: As soon as I found out I was pregnant we started deciding on names. For a boy he would have been named after his father Christopher James. As for a girl I liked
Madison
Madeline
Chastity
Anabel
Felicia
DH wanted Chelsea (over my dead body) smile.gif
As for the middle name I wanted her to have mine, Elizabeth.
We ended up with her name in one week , Madison Elizabeth .
