kimberley wrote: was not fun. she did something called "stretch and sweep". from the name, i am sure you can imagine... it was not comfortable!! she touched baby's head but said it is still a bit high and i wont be having the baby today. they plan to do it again next week and said for "homework" dh should get to "work" in the morning and make sure i "O" after he does . she said there was a bit of show after and i am now bleeding and cramping . (sorry TMI). i hope and pray i go this week because the one mw i don't like is on call the following week.
they are kind of discouraging the water birth. they are fine with me laboring in there but not birthing. ultimately what i say goes, but they dont advise it. will keep you posted.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Ouchie! I'm sorry
Wow it really won't be long now. Is there a specific reason they're discouraging a water birth? That seems strange.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: Ow Kimberly. No that doesn't sound fun at all. I'm curious about why they aren't recommending the water birth as well. It won't be long now. Here are some ~~~ELVs~~~ for good measure.
coasterqueen replied: Oh yeah, she stripped your membranes Supposedly this helps baby move along faster, but for some it doesn't do much at all. Just depends on the body.
That's completely weird that they aren't encouraging the water birth. I thought they were gun-ho about that type of thing.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Kimberly they did that to me too and I cried. It hurt so bad, but Mackenzie was born 4 days after they did it.
Kaitlin'smom replied: oy I never had that done, and probably would not let them. Did thay say why they are not supportive in water birth? It wont be long ~~ELV~~ to you.
MyLuvBugs replied: Oh yeah that stretch thing hurts! UGH! They did that and "scraped the membrane" or something to me. I thought they were trying to rip the baby out of me right then and there. UGH. Not pleasant. You've got my sympathies! BUT the good thing is that you are have some show AND cramping! That's always a good sign. You and DH should got for a long walk (if possible) tonight. That might help to speed it up too. Good luck and keep us posted!!
kimberley replied: good to know i am not alone in the torture . they aren't recommending water birth for a few of reasons...
1. warmth/comfort - it is hard to keep the water temp regulated for one. and having to move mom and baby from water to bed, you get a chill and likely would separate us for a few minutes. she compared it to getting out of the shower and that chill you get.
2. the possibility of me having a bm in the tub then baby being born into that puts us at higher risk of having to be transported to the hospital.
3. that particular midwife (who is on call next week also) has no direct experience with it and would be more comfortable out of the water.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Well those are pretty good reasons I guess. Good luck deciding ~ I hope it turns out to be a great experience however you do it!
CantWait replied: Striping the membranes, not fun, but with Anthony (as I'm sure you know but just don't remember).....I started hard labor that very day, went to the hospital that night, and ended up having him not long after. Good Luck hon, I can't wait to meet your new bundle of joy if she ever gets here-- I'm so impatient.
~*~*~Easy Labor Vibes~*~*~ and good luck deciding about the water birth.
Insanemomof3 replied: Sorry about the water birth thing. But WOOHOO you are getting close!!!!! I am so excited for all the new babies!!!!!!!!
My3LilMonkeys replied: Yeah, stripping the membranes is not fun. I had that with Brooke.
~~~ELV~~~ for you and I can't wait to hear the birth story!!
A&A'smommy replied: OMG that does sound painful!!! I hope little one come this week... wouldn't it be neat if you had the baby on christmas day or eve what a wonderful christmas present!!! LOTS of ~~~~~~ELV~~~~~ coming your way!!! Have ya'll chosen a for sure name yet?
amymom replied: Yes torture is what I would call it. But my Mary was born the next morning after having that done AND a quickie with the hubby!!!
MommyToAshley replied: I've never had the stretch or stripping of the membranes done, but OUCH it sounds painful. However, I bet it will help to move things along.
Even if you don't end up doing the water birth at least you can labor in the pool. I've heard a lot of people say it makes labor a lot easier. The hospital I had Ashley at had a whole section of the maternity ward that had birthing tubs, but I didn't know a lot about it. I just remember the nurse showed us the rooms and commented that it was available to anyone that was interested. Now I wonder if they just labor in the tubs there or do actual water births there.
Either way, it won't be long until you are holding your bundle of joy.
kimberley replied: names aren't totally finalized
for a girl, it is either Kaleigh Anne or Karah Anne for a boy, it will be Riley Andrew
