anyone else have a problem with ants?
Celestrina wrote: We've had them for the past three years. Last year it was really bad. Wee thought we got lucky this year, and guess what I saw yesterday . We only saw a few, and my dh doesn't want to spend the money to have someone come out to treat the problem. If you only have a few, what do you do? do you have an exterminator come out or do you try to take care of it yourself?
gr33n3y3z replied: boric acid and jelly put it in a jar lid but keep it away from pets and children
Celestrina replied: where would be the best place to put it? Along with Ben we have a cat.
TheOaf66 replied: I have tried and tried to sprinkle ant repeller and killer around our whole house and it does not seem to do much at all, if anyone has a good idea please pass it along.
holley79 replied: *knock on wood* we haven't had a problem this year. We normally get infested during the summer and treat for them. This year, though, we treated the entire yard prior to getting them.
Jeffs Wife replied: We have had them so bad this year, but we just moved into a new house last fall so I can't compare to last year. They are big ones and they are in every room of the house. They are driving me crazy. I have used ant cups when I had them in past years back when but I don't really think they work, but I have to try something to get rid of these things before I go crazy........Michelle
Celestrina replied: They sound like carpenter ants. You will probably need to get a professional treatment to get rid of them.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Go to ww.doyourownpestcontrol.com They have all sorts of sprays you can use. Most of them work great. The only one I don't like is Talstar...it doesn't work well for us...constantly re-applying it. Ant granuals work good too. Get a seed spreader and spread it throughout the lawn and sprinkle them around the perimeter of your home to keep them out.
luvmykids replied: We have ants too and I just heard a new remedy .... cucumber peels. For some reason they aren't supposed to like them and will stay away if you put clumps of them around. Haven't tried it yet though.
I'll find my thread about ants, there were a lot of great ideas.
luvmykids replied: Ants thread
Here's that thread from a while back. HTH
JP&KJMOM replied: Wow Monica that is a great thread. I must have missed it the first go around. Now I have ideas.
Cece00 replied: We've had problems in the past & to be honest we have had better luck with self extermination than when we paid for it!!
We used the ant granules, and then buy a couple of cans of ant spray...we wait til its not gonna rain for a few days, and DH sprays around the outside of the house and I spray along the INSIDE of the house in areas where the kids dont really touch....
So far...so good.
coasterqueen replied: We had them inside a couple of weeks ago in our foyer, but that's because Pooka (Megan) left us a treat under the foyer rug. They were gone as soon as Dh sprayed for them, not sure what he used.
We've had them outside recently near our deck, but I'm assuming it's because of the birthday party we had out there recently. Someone probably dropped food through a deck slat and they are feasting on that.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Apparently ants will not cross a line of chalk.
ashtonsmama replied: HATE ants with a passion, we used to have a big problem with them too. We used Orange Guard, and it really works, and it's safe to use around pets, food, and kids. Definitely try it! It's also organic, so totally safe.
Here's the link:

Celestrina replied: I'll have to keep an eye out for that one. Thanks!
7thHeaven replied: We use Home Defense (think we found it at Lowes or Wal-mart), it's for indoors and outdoors, it works reallllly well , we spray about every 3 months or son ourselves.
